This song I’ve been hearing it for over 40 years and until my mother passed it’s when I found and felt its meaning for the first time… we had such a hard, hard but loving life… my sisters and my mother where I had to be the pillar (represent the brother and father as our dad was always absent from our lives..) mother and five of us sailing the troubled waters of the storms (so many…) jumping from Nuns ‘homes’ to foster caretakers to finally living in the streets and for some miracle being reunited again when I turned 17 back in Chicago. And then seeing my Mother attached to a lift chair for the last 6 years of her life in and out of hospitals suffering from respiratory sickness (copd) having to carry a tank of oxygen and finally passing at 79 last January 2022 when coming home to ‘surprise her’ with a new electric sofa and a bag of food to cook her favorite dish and spend a sunny Sunday just to find that she had passed 2 hours before I arrived at her place, cold, rigid and gone… I guess she got tired of that poor quality of life she had in her last 5-6 years and decided to move on… “sail on Silver Girl, sail on by, your time has come to shine, all your dreams are on their way…” are the hardest and sweetest words of that song… We love you dearest mother and friend…❤ I’ll be sailing right behind you soon enough to push the wind behind your sails on those troubled waters… Ruddy, your Son.
There's no substitute for great songwriting. Paul Simon even admits that when he wrote this, he instantly recognized he tapped into some brilliant, if not divine, inspiration
They are indeed the original singers, Paul Simon wrote it. If you want to listen to more Simon and Garfunkel I'd recommend "The Boxer", "Cecilia" and "I am a rock". For out of this world harmonies have a listen to their "Scarborough Fair/Canticle".
THIS is what a reaction channel is supposed to be. An honest reaction to the music, without all the analysis and diagnosis and the trying to figure out what genre it is or what instruments are used. Music is meant to be FELT, not ANALYZED, and this woman gave us an honest reaction. I will be subscribing to this channel.
This song is about someone who selflessly offers themself to another. Such a selfless act(even in song) touches something deep within us. It is something right and we know it. We love that. It is that love that brings you to tears. You get to feel this. And Art Garfunkels powerful voice tops it off.
I know one other song of them. It stuck to my mind as a child, because it was so Angelica. So I want you to hear it too. The name is "The only living boy in New York". Almost nobody reacts to it, but it's absolutely one of there best. You have to hear it! ❤❤❤
Stick with this, the original #1 hit, Grammy award for song of the year [late 1969 release] given for year 1970. Art Garfunkel sings this, Paul Simons joins on the harmony in the bridge. it was sort of an anthem to the end of the turbulent 1960's. You won't get songs like this anymore. Larry Knechtel studio musician, invented and played the piano accompaniment...just brilliant. 100 years from now new people will still be discovering this song because it is a total master piece. My generation will be speaking to them from the grave through this song.
This was one of THE albums of the decade, and I think one or two of the year 1970.. I'm 66, and my older sister bought this album, and I truly don't think we played much else for a few days. The whole album is fantastic . Our parents were 15 and 17when they eloped while my Dad was on Thanksgiving furlough in 1950 during the Korean conflict, so while the harder rock they didn't care for, ones like this bridged the gap.(no pun intended 😊) So we could play it on the expensive, hands off, 6 foot wide console stereo😅😅 that was in the living room and just as loud as we liked. And our family listened to music constantly. This one stands the test of time. Great reaction. You wondered why you were crying. I still cry each time I hear it..I think it's because we all might either have had someone this close, who cared for us this much, or we want someone to love us like this❤😢 Edited to say I enjoyed your reaction reaction and wish you would react to Sounds of Silence , Homeward Bound, and The Boxer(by them.. they are the original)These are tearjerkers but very storytelling in the lyrics.😊
Such beautiful lyrics and singing and instrumentation. That combined with the 53 years that have passed since I first heard it definitely brings a tear to this old man’s eye. Sail on, silver girl, sail on by. Your time has come to shine.
This song, Mom Loved it I love it, and Everyone needs sone one who is their bridge over troubled water. I remember Dad slow dancing with mom to this and she cried.
This is the original song, and the best by far. Art Garfunkel's voice literally soars, and that middle part, " .... sail on silver girl....", always gets me. Isn't it beautiful how good music can elicit such deep-felt emotions?
The combination of Garfunkel's voice and Simon's writing is unbeatable. Try my favourite "Kathy's Song which Art Garfunkel says is Paul Simon's best love song.
I read of one weird interpretation of this song, that its about drug use (e.g. "Sail on, silver girl, sail on high" is the hypodermic needle that is injecting heroin into the user. "All your dreams are on their way" (the heroin high is coming). "If you need a friend....."I will ease your mind..." (Heroin). It kind of changes the tone of the song. However I never fully bought this interpretation. Mainly because despite being recorded during the drug drenched 1960's-70's era, S & G were not drug users, nor promoters of drug songs (Unlike The Beatles and Stones who were occasionally).
You've made a mistake a lot of reactors do - your personal vocals are at least twice as loud as the song. If I want to hear the song at a listenable volume, your voice comes in almost loud enough to be similar to yelling. Makes for an unpleasant experience - I stopped listening 44 seconds into your video. Please fix this on future vids...

"Wow" indeed. To attend one of their concerts is to hear hit after hit, with no filler. No group or band can touch them in brilliance and quality.
They are so incredibly amazing

It’s like a comfort blanket their music. Dig further into their music - you won’t be disappointed. You got the sentiment of the song spot on.

And this song knocked "Let It Be" from the No.1 spot back in 1970... Those were the days.
Wow.. seriously?

beautiful lyrics, right? amazing
Everyone is touched by this song and most of us tear up too.
Art Garfunkel, the singer later did a solo song similar to BOTW called "All I Know".
This song, Mom Loved it I love it, and Everyone needs sone one who is their bridge over troubled water. I remember Dad slow dancing with mom to this and she cried.
Awwn so sweet, it’s a beautiful song, I love it

It is so beautiful, felt it right deep with my heart.☺️💯
It must be Friday cuz you got me crying too. 😇

Paul's hair is Art's moustache. Once you see it, you can never unsee it.

Thank You❤
You're welcome 😊
Love your reaction thank you
Thank you so much 🙏☺️
good reaction!
🙏 thank you
I’ve said it before but your appreciation of 60/70s music is heartening for a young lady. They don’t make music like this anymore
Thank you, I love the oldies there’s nothing like them .
Thank you for sharing your emotional reaction...it's a very brave thing to do!
Thank you so much for watching
The combination of Garfunkel's voice and Simon's writing is unbeatable. Try my favourite "Kathy's Song which Art Garfunkel says is Paul Simon's best love song.
Okay, I’ll check that out
Thank you for a lovely reaction
Glad you enjoyed it thanks for watching 🙏☺️
It has probably been said before but this is the "original version". It has been written by Paul Simon in the later 60's and released in 1970.
listen to THE SOUND OF SILENCE - CECILIA - THE BOXER - EL CONDOR PASA - THE ONLY LIVING BOY IN NEW YORK - and so many more.......
Okay 👍🏽
Good on you for tearing up. The mark of a fine song and meaningful lyrics. PLEASE try, Beth Hart doing Leave the light on.
Thank you, I’ll check out your suggestion.
THEIR BETTER SONG TO LISTEN TO 1ST TIME IS- "SOUNDS OF SILENCE"
"The Cars - drive" ... is another sad song ... (get tissues ready)
Okay, I’ll check it out
Elvis did an amazing cover to this.

Try Bookends
Okay
It's inspirieren by a bible Psalm.
Oh yea, it is so emotional and beautiful
Your mic volume is too high. It's overwhelming the music. I'm out.
