    Installed this on both doors of our camper (bedroom & main living area). Best upgrade we've done. Tint is so dark you can't see in from the outside but I can see the outside beautifully. To all those that say it's a waste because you can't see with the shade down, either leave it raised a bit or don't worry about it...you couldn't see out of the frosted window at all. Thanks for the great videos!

    Looked like a pretty straightforward installation. As you mentioned though, if you want to see out when someone comes to your door, you'd have to have the shade at least partially open to begin with. Still an improvement over the opaque glass, and you stopped the water intrusion.

    we installed this a couple years ago and love it, the big drawback is not being able to open or close the blind with the door shut ( the screen is in the way ) otherwise it looks good with our frameless windows, much better match than the bath glass, and gives you that option to see out, and /or close the blind to give a blackout that you cannot have with the stock window.

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha. Bath glass. I couldn’t figure a good word for the old window. For us, not an issue. Open the blind AM, and close before we go to bed. Really nice when we park with bright sun too.

  • @techi3075

    Silicon caulk would be included when I do this to my door. Inside around glass edges, especially the bottom where water could sit, and dabs to hold blind parts in place
    (a day b4 install) as well as outside frame flange to seal out water. Nice informative video Sir! Thx.

    • @iLoveRVlife

    Our 2017 5th wheel came with this installed. I like it much better than the older frosted window. The ONLY problem with the all black shade is the heat build up that occurred when we were at an RV park and were parked with that side in the all afternoon sun. After getting back home we cut a piece of the reflective insulation you can get, like we had cut for all the other Windows, to fit and cover the shade and keep it cooler, if there is a next time and at some point in our travels there will be!

    Amazingly, these windows are cheaper now than when you did this install. I’m purchasing it to go on a cargo trailer door which has no integrated screen door. So for installs like mine, the shade can be raised and lowered from the inside all the time. Thanks for the video, seeing the product in use definitely helped me decide to purchase.

    We installed the same shade on our 2017 Fleetwood Jamboree 31U class C rig. You can also turn the shade/frame 180* to have the shade move from the bottom to the top. The shade has enough resistance it stays in place wherever you place it. One of the fastest installs/upgrades I have done.

    • @maryjaneniles443
      @maryjaneniles443 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That's what I thought - if it were installed upside down (since there seems to be no specified top or bottom), you could leave the blind down a little bit to see out but no one could see in. I also thought a bead of silicone around the outside might have been a good idea.

    We wanted to cover the window because the light came indirectly to the bed where we were sleeping. We considered that product for just that reason if somebody knocked at the door. But if the shade is down and you're inside the camper you can't look anyway because of the screen door. We found a great product it was a heavy duty canvas piece. You took out for screws and inserted for screws which had a female half of a snap. Put them in snapped it in place looks beautiful ( comes in black or tan).

    Gerry, I just bought these windows so I’m watching your video to see how to install them. I noticed that your original window frame had warped. Did you consider installing it upside down so you pull the shade up from the bottom. That way you leave it an inch or two from the top, still have privacy and see outside at the same time?

    Can the shade be mounted upside down so that an opening in the shade would be at the top of the window? It would be nice to be able to look out the door window without having to bend over. There would have to be sufficient tension on the shade slide mechanism so it would not just fall down.

    Hi Jerry, me again. On a few of your other videos you show using the 303 product on your tires, awning, slides and even used on your windows so they didn't stick. Will you also use it now on the rubber seal of this new window? Maybe you didn't use it on the old one and that is why it split. Just wondering. I will be purchasing that product or an equivalent as they may not have it available in Canada. I will use it this coming spring on all the parts that will benefit from its use. Safe travels.

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The outside bezel for the old and new window is plastic. The 303 will help protect. I think the old window was flawed. It was coming apart. The glass wouldn’t stay in place. The bezel cracked. I think I got stuck with a bad unit. Hope you can find the 303. It really helps. With the hot southeastern US sun, we need all the help we can get!

      I agree. I think it's a rather foolish investment because that does not accomplish what you wanted it to at all. You cannot open it with the screen door in the way. I think the aluminum insulation that you had on their accomplishes more by blocking the Sun went up and also insulating from the cold and heat. But it does look pretty.

    I, too, enjoyed your video interesting product! We have a similar problem in my Parents RV. It has a white bezel, so it has weathered better in the Arizona heat, but the frosted glass is a pain. My concerns would be some type of sealant around the frame to prevent water intrusion, maybe an aluminum outer frame to hold up better than black ABS, a dual pane option as doors are often a source of heat gain/loss through the seasons, I'm concerned about the white sticky adhesive inside. You may end up with a glass slippage if that doesn't hold up, or a leak which ever comes first. And a battery powered remote control to open and close the shade would be cool too!!! Just my 2 cents...

    • @iLoveRVlife
      @iLoveRVlife  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lee, all good points. Interesting, the sticky foam seal was identical for this unit as well as the one from the factory and no additional sealer was used. The seal in the factory unit held up, it was the outside plastic bezel that failed. I wish I could find something in aluminum, it would be a much needed improvement. After the install, the RV was facing some bright sun and heat for a number of weeks. The glass tint along with the shade offered a nice improvement over that frosted glass junk that came with the RV. And a battery powered remote option for the shade? Now that would be cool! Thanks for the comment. Safe travels. Jerry....
