I'm quite petite (I wear child size gloves.) Your outstanding video gave me the confidence to try this on my own, and it was super easy. Thank you!! The old exterior frame initially wouldn't release from the RV, so I removed the glass first, which was easy. I then was able to give a good tug on the frame, which peeled off without a problem. Two things that may help some people: If you have a screen door, you won't be able to stand on the step to reach the top of the window, so you'll need a step ladder. Also, the shade is really not useful if you have a screen door, especially if you are vertically challenged. To use it, you have to go outside, close the screen, then pull down the shade. (You may need a step stool in order to reach the shade.) Then, you'll have to open the screen door and go back inside. Fortunately, I have curtains over my door, so I don't need the shade. I might skip the shade if I ever install another one of these. Thank you again for this great video.
Thank you! We are having to completely rebuild our door and I need to replace the window as well so this helps me know what to get. This was also a very well made DIY. So appreciate that.
I saw an rv forum where someone installed the shade upside down so they could use it like a peep hole to see out if someone knocks on the door. Thought that was a great idea. Nice video very informative on the installation especially the clear packaging tape thank you👍
We just did this upgrade today. Thank you for your informative video. Wifey and I did this in about 40 minutes. Even with my leukemia and heavy-duty chemo flowing through me, it was a pretty straightforward swap-out. The door AND the trailer, in general, look SO much better. Just make sure you guys doing this project use the taping tips to prevent an 'incident'. Ha. We won't do the bedroom window because we still like the privacy it provides.
Great video! Our RV came with this type of window already installed but if it hadn't we definitely would have replaced it with the window in the video.
Yes more and more new RVs are coming with this type of door window. It only took the industry 30 years to realize no one wanted a bathroom window in the RV door.
Perfect Perfect Perfect Thank you for sharing how you did this install. I followed it with no issues. I purchased two of these window inserts but I painted my frames and screw tips white to match my trailer doors. I was able to get it done all by myself with your awesome video. I thank you
We hated that window on our Class C! We hate the one on Maggie too. It is larger and dark tint which is great during the day, but at night there is only a full length shade to cover the window above the door and the window in the door. Don't get me started about the window above the door...doesn't make any sense. Anyway, I wish they would come out the same conversion for the style we have. We love the built in shade...very nice. Great install video Lou! Came out Awesome! 😀👍
Thanks guys yes i guess it doesn't matter what RV you have the door window is a problem. This was so easy and affordable i am surprised i waited so long. Thanks for watching and hope all is well, Lou.
Looks great Lou, I changed mine too from that "why did they use that" opaque glass to clear glass as well. Although I don't have the built in shade, not sure it it was available from AP Products at the time. I may have to swap my or do some 1960 retro fitting. Thumbs up Lou!
Thanks Tim. I have yet to meet a fellow RVer that says 'Oh that's a nice piece of frosted glass in that RV door' lol. Glad I finally got to change it out. Happy traveling, Lou.
Hi Edward, No but most RV's are the size in the video. However, more recently some manufacturers have gone to a slightly bigger window by Lippert. A shaded door window is also available in a larger size. The links to both AP products or Lippert products are in the description. Measure the window and order the appropriate one.
I actually kept my diffused glass panel and installed it instead of the tinted one included. I don't like people being able to see right through my front door. however I wanted a shade that the window frame previously did not have that's why I purchased this. But I do really like the product and it works perfect with the old glass panel if anyone wants to do that
I paused the video during installation several times. Because of this I missed the don't use a drill to screw in the screws bit. So I was wondering if this might have caused any damage
Perhaps an odd question with an obvious answer but would the shade still work well if hung upside down? I would like to maintain some privacy while still allowing light in by just cracking the shade some from the top.
I saw someone do it on a Facebook group and yes it works. They sad there was enough friction the shade doesn’t fall. That’s how I’m planning to install mine
I have a question: My window shade on my thin shade has fallen. I want to take the interior side frame out a bit on top and re-adjust the shade from falling again without damaging the thin shade, is that a good idea and have you had to do that too?
I secured the outside window with blue tape (painter's tape) successfully to prevent the glass window from falling out and was able to gently remove the interior frame of the thin shade part and secured the shade with black gorilla tape in small strips to prevent it coming apart again in the re-install. I installed the window thin shade as a new install and everything went well. Now that I think about it, should have made a video. 😁
That sounds great and yes a video would have been a good idea as there is always someone out there with the same issue looking for solutions. Happy camping.
Great instructions! We were trying to figure out how to install it based on the cryptic instruction sheet then thought about TH-cam DYI. Thanks for taking the time to serve others by making an easy follow DYI 🙂
Great job and nice flattop (haircut) it looks factory. I still get a high n tight but i usually have to tighten it up myself. Question: can you one hand open the shade from the side or middle?
Hi Dean, Yes i am able to open the shade with one hand. It sometimes requires a wiggle back and forth. And I get my hair cut every two weeks to keep it tight lol. Thanks for watching.
Great video, it seems like someone with little to know knowledge of doing anything can do it. Is there just one size fit all or are there various sizes for the door? --Bob Central Texas
Hi I just recently caught my first RV and the door window got busted out the very next day. I have a 1992 f530 bounder and I'm having a hard time finding a replacement due to dimensions. Do have any suggestions? The dimensions are 30 in tall and about 22 in wide.
Hi Kristina, Congrats on your new to you RV. Reach out to the people at RecPro. They carry many sizes of windows. If they have any that fit and you purchase from them you can get 5% off using the discount code rvhabit. Good Luck.
I'm wanting to replace mine with the same product. I was thinking, for privacy and for lighting purposes installing it upside down, so I could pull up the shade for privacy, and be able to peek out the top to see who's at my door etc. Make sense?
RV Habit Thanks I did see that one but was hoping for the same one you installed with the option. I could probably fabricate something myself but I’m sure they will come out with it right after I do.
It fits most 12x21 radius corner rv door windows. I believe GD uses a clip type window that you slide a flat blade behind the interior frame to remove. I have not personally worked on a Grand Design so i would suggest contacting them to confirm how the door window is removed. Good luck.
Pretty damn cool, too bad I have a million other projects to do first. Where is retirement, I'm ready for it so I can just spend my days upgrading everything.
I did my two in under an hour, the scraping off foolish application of silicone caulking around my old stain glass inserts prior owner put on! Ugh I had to fix mine I had a desert scene on one door with a ocean light house on the other! It drove me crazy! Lol
That sounds like the newer style of Lippert windows. They are removed by sliding a flat tool behind the frame to release the clips. Search TH-cam for it I believe someone did a video on how to remove that type of window and install a slim shade. Good luck.
Wow - GREAT job! Nice editing and production - the tips and tricks really help! I had no idea these kits existed - now of course I NEED to get (two), I'm in a Toyhauler; these seem like an obvious upgrade once you know about them. I like the idea of installing it upside down to partially use the screen (maybe without having to open the screen door). I'm in Canada so I use Amazon.ca but I will see if I can do the sale through your affiliate link. PS - Sixteen screws? - that's just asking for a cordless tool be used - but I HEARD your warning about using a hand tool to not damage it... In applications like that I instead use a cordless DRILL not the impact driver. Then I adjust the torque setting on the drill to minimum and adjust up to the right setting... (GENTLE powertool) PPS Did the instructions suggest to install one screw after the other in rotation? I thought it might be wise to install like a wheel - opposite corners and alternating to spread out the torque. But clearly one after the other - worked! Just thoughts... NICE JOB! (I subbed and liked)
Yours is the third video for this installation I've watched and by far the best! Thanks!

Best tutorial I've seen installing this product yet - very nice job. New subscriber here.
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks, just what I needed and right on time! Soooo much better than the dinky peepholes I was "planning". Stay healthy!💜 Thanks again.
Ordered mine today from Camping World about $15 cheaper along with a couple other items. Thanks!
Hope you enjoy it!

Thank you for your service, sir.
Hi Brian, Thank you kindly
U can only open or close the shade if the door is open
We are lucky. Our window is clear. I know what your talking about though. Thanks for all the tips. Ken and Jane🤠👍🚎

Hi Lisa, Thanks for watching.
Good upgrade...we did both of our door windows this year. Should have done it a few years ago.
Nice video.. thanks
I think the manufacturers should have these as OEM. that frosted glass is horrible. Thanks for watching, Lou
OMG, YES, Amen brother!! That is the best up grade ever, and seems like it is reasonably priced based on your amazon link!! Fantastic info!!
I agree totally worthwhile upgrade and yes very reasonable price.
What a great video! I appreciate the extra advice. I'm so doing this👍🏼

Very nice upgrade, of course I’ll ask the dumb question, are all door windows the same size? Thanks for the good video.

My pleasure 😊
I paused the video during installation several times. Because of this I missed the don't use a drill to screw in the screws bit. So I was wondering if this might have caused any damage
Hi Jack, no not necessarily. Using a power drill just increases the risk of cracking the plastic.
Perhaps an odd question with an obvious answer but would the shade still work well if hung upside down? I would like to maintain some privacy while still allowing light in by just cracking the shade some from the top.
I suppose it would. The shade does stop where ever you want it to. It has friction cords.
Yes it works upside down. I just watched another video where he put it upside down for privacy. Pretty cool.

Just remember removing the interior frame loosens the entire window. Make sure the outer frame and glass does not fall.
I secured the outside window with blue tape (painter's tape) successfully to prevent the glass window from falling out and was able to gently remove the interior frame of the thin shade part and secured the shade with black gorilla tape in small strips to prevent it coming apart again in the re-install. Great job and nice flattop (haircut) it looks factory. I still get a high n tight but i usually have to tighten it up myself. Question: can you one hand open the shade from the side or middle?

Hi Lou, I'm planning to put this window replacement in my Class C RV. Just wanted to know how it's holding up in the past couple years.
Hi, Mine has held up well. Still looks and works like the day I installed it. Still love this upgrade.
We are currently looking for ideas for trailer. Thanks for sharing and inspiring! Just subbed 😊

HOW do I Measure the window for replacement
Great video, it seems like someone with little to know knowledge of doing anything can do it. Is there just one size fit all or are there various sizes for the door? --Bob Central Texas
Hi Bob, Years ago it was pretty much one size now there are several door manufacturers that use different sizes. Measure to make sure.
Excellent!
Many thanks!

Hi Donald, Thanks for the sub!
Have they made a way to slide the shade up and down yet through the screen door?
Hi, there actually is a window with shade that opens and closes with the screen door shut. check it out at amzn.to/3jJcBpr
RV Habit Thanks I did see that one but was hoping for the same one you installed with the option. I could probably fabricate something myself but I’m sure they will come out with it right after I do.
Your probably right. I come up with things and a month later I see it for sale. Safe travels and happy camping.
So, does it really look that 'clear' from the inside even though it's tinted from the outside? (Sorry, if someone has asked this prior.)
Hi Gary, although it is tinted you can see outside easily just like my other RV windows.
Does it say what RV's it fits we have a Grand Design and I don't see any screw holes on the inside I really like that window
