Life Update: finishing my masters thesis & moving away from NYC?? | thesis diaries ep. 10
In today's video, I originally intended on this video being a part of a weekly vlog, but I felt that there was too much to say and share about what it has been like to finish writing and submit my masters thesis, the immediate aftermath of finishing a dissertation, and what my next steps will look like over the next few months. Stay tuned to hear and see more about graduation and leaving new york??

Oooooh the tradwife research would be so cool, like studying the political connections and implications and the connection with cottagecore etc. It is indeed emotionally heavy for sure, and I hope you get to do that! 💜 I really loved your observations about how academic work requires a lot of compartmentalization of emotions and the very physical process of thinking, I think I forget that sometimes
Yes!! It's super interesting stuff- I presented it recently and it received some really positive feedback so I'm excited to continue pursuing that research in the future. And I'll always be the first to advocate for our brains as a part of our bodies. Thinking takes so much energy! And thank you for naming compartmentalization, that's definitely the phrase I was reaching for and couldn't find lol
All the best for the future!
Thank you friend!
thanks for sharing Katie! it's so uncomfortable to think about our identities outside of "school" or "student" so i think you are very brave for taking a stab at it! 🤍
Aw thank you! It’s something I want to do before I dedicate myself to more years of study. I think it’s important to have a good sense of self when you’re in academia
Enjoying your videos for the last two years. What was your experience like at The New School/Parsons? And in comparison to UC Berkeley?
Ooh that’s a huge question! Long story short is that they are two entirely different cultures that took some adjusting to in both cases. I found that I really enjoyed learning at Parsons because UC Berkeley (and community college) gave me a good foundation to work from.
It would take a whole video to explain this in depth, but I will add your question to a Q&A video in the future! ♥️
I related to a lot of this. I had a joke where I'd say "When people ask me what I'm going to do after I graduate, I tell them 'Take a nap!'" But yeah, life moves on, and another massive undertaking is on the horizon. Cool. =)
Taking naps is precisely what I’ve been doing ever since graduation lol. Life does indeed move on and I look forward to what’s next!
Congratulations on finishing the thesis 🎉🎉 will you be doing a viva presentation?
Thank you! We have the opportunity to present but it's not required. I presented a different project during our symposium
