@@3dfan008 I think it definitely has something to do with it's lack of "shame" or something. It just... Is. It's a movie where a big dude shoots mooks, fights an ugly guy, kisses hot chick. You know what you're getting. It's not trying to be something it can't
to extend about My Bloody Valentine, the DVD release had the scenes in pretty poor quality. in the last few years, they released a 4k scan blu ray of the completely uncut film with the original scenes intact. basically it went from just "found" to "pristine"
Another 48 Hrs. is another film that has 50 minutes of lost footage. Some of those scenes are only shown in the trailer. The majority of scenes of the villain Kehoe played by Brion James were removed for the theatrical release. The 30th anniversary blu ray release does not have the restored workprint footage.
Scream Factory managed the blu ray release of Cobra, but I could imagine Vinegar Syndrome leading the charge on a 4K re-release including the workprint given their growth in recent years
You can't conjure up something that doesn't exist... When stuff was shot on film, the actual film negative is large and difficult to store... Consequently it isn't unheard of for studios to throw out negative trims (footage deleted for censorship or editing/pacing reasons) or even keep entire negatives at 3rd party storage facilities (there was a late 90's big studio released movie, that was going to receive a new blu ray and the blue ray producers went looking for the actual negative and were told to look at this one storage site... Literally the moment they got there, they were told that the owners of the negative weren't paying their bills anymore, so the negative was in a pile of stuff that was going to be thrown out. The blu ray producers paid them to keep the negative.
Its very interesting the pipeline of Beverly Hills Cop to Cobra to Fair Game 1995 (The last one in an adaptation of the Novel that originally inspired Cobra under a new name)
The villan in this movie, Brian Thompson, is from a town in Washington state named Ellensburg, that I lived in for 8 years Not a great town, I moved away and to do miss some of it Good for Brian for his success, it was much better than him doing a regular job around Ellensburg, only good paying jobs around there is if you work for the state, or a professor at CWU
It has to exist, my guess is it’s either in Warner Bros’ vaults or maybe because it was a Cannon Film’s co-production, MGM might have it. But really, who knows. Shout Factory put out a special edition of Cobra a few years ago and it contained no uncut version of the film. So I think it’s up to Sly or some other film restoration and release company to dig it up. I just hope this movie is not another Event Horizon situation where the film elements are long gone.
I have seen this in VHS which had extra gory scenes I only remember it as a kid it was soo horyfing to see those seen there were many brutal scenes but I only remember the last brutal scene where last killing was done in meathook was a longer death scene actually his scream were soo real and when he catches fire his scream was much louder which is not available now where any newbies will freak out and will vomit for sure ...now you can imagine...
The work print may be out there, it can be hoped that's it's in watchable condition even if it seems to be not the case anymore with the amount of time that has passed. Either way Cobra is quite the badass action romp, seeing this lost version will definitely be a treat.
I have tapes from around the time of this movie's release that play perfectly fine. But I also have a few other tapes, some significantly newer than Cobra, that have completely deteriorated to the point that they behave as if they've never had anything recorded to them. Just nothingness and no trace of audio or video. If these guys aren't making up stories about having had a copy, hopefully they're out there and that at least one surviving copy surfaces and gets properly archived.
Cant believe this wasnt made into video games in the 16 bit era... I know there were amstrad, specky and c64 titles bit something on megadrive could have been awesome
An uncut print was basically in the producer's closet... The actual negative trims had long since been lost (Paramount has a lousy track record of hanging onto trimmed footage).
All I can say is it took DECADES to get footage from the workprint released for Superman 4: The quest for peace. This is notable due to golan and globus, owners of Canon. Which ALSO INFAMOUSLY was cut down from a 134 minute cut to 90 minutes. And there's STILL FOOTAGE missing.

As a result VHS copies was widely available in that region, Cypros, Lebanon, Israel etc during that time. They stopped after one master was wiped out by an x-ray machine leaving the final film completely erased.
Thanks
There's something about Cobra I really like
My farts are better than Whang’s farts 💨
@@p-__idk farts are nasty and stink like youn
It’s probably because it’s so cheesy and badass. The movie screams 1980s.
@@3dfan008 I think it definitely has something to do with it's lack of "shame" or something. It just... Is. It's a movie where a big dude shoots mooks, fights an ugly guy, kisses hot chick. You know what you're getting. It's not trying to be something it can't
I had the poster on my wall in high school before I ever saw the movie.
literally my favorite movie ever. I Hope we finally get all of it
I wonder if anyone contacted the director's son about it, he became a director too.
to extend about My Bloody Valentine, the DVD release had the scenes in pretty poor quality. in the last few years, they released a 4k scan blu ray of the completely uncut film with the original scenes intact. basically it went from just "found" to "pristine"
Man I freaking love this movie, some peak 80's shit right here
Another 48 Hrs. is another film that has 50 minutes of lost footage. Some of those scenes are only shown in the trailer. The majority of scenes of the villain Kehoe played by Brion James were removed for the theatrical release. The 30th anniversary blu ray release does not have the restored workprint footage.
Thanks for doing a video on this. I've wanted this workprint for over a decade!
Cobra was my favorite as a kid and I even had a big ass Stallone poster my dad custom made for me
One of my favorite quotes: "You wanna talk? Sure I'll talk. I'm a sucker for good conversation."
I love this movie. Super cheesy but I always thought something was missing from it. Give me the lost print. I NEED IT!
Justin really rocking that 80s hair metal look.
Love these lore stories about old 80s movies. More please Whang
Its very interesting the pipeline of Beverly Hills Cop to Cobra to Fair Game 1995 (The last one in an adaptation of the Novel that originally inspired Cobra under a new name)
Thanks for bringing attention to this!
Cobra is truly one of my all time favourites! Just pure liquid 80s and awesomeness.
The villan in this movie, Brian Thompson, is from a town in Washington state named Ellensburg, that I lived in for 8 years
Not a great town, I moved away and to do miss some of it
Good for Brian for his success, it was much better than him doing a regular job around Ellensburg, only good paying jobs around there is if you work for the state, or a professor at CWU
Best Christmas movie ever, oh you dont think its a christmas movie, you havent paid close enough attention when watching it
His name reminds me the opie and Anthony bit “Mongoose.”
It’s almost the exact same thing
It has to exist, my guess is it’s either in Warner Bros’ vaults or maybe because it was a Cannon Film’s co-production, MGM might have it. But really, who knows. Shout Factory put out a special edition of Cobra a few years ago and it contained no uncut version of the film. So I think it’s up to Sly or some other film restoration and release company to dig it up. I just hope this movie is not another Event Horizon situation where the film elements are long gone.
My favorite Christmas movie
I’ve always loved Cobra. In fact Conra & Nighthawks are my 2 favorite Stallone movies.
I need this bad the crazy unseen Smokey and the Bandit 3 cut
That Merc that Sly drove in that movie was so damn cool.
AWSOM 50
Is that a Rhodesian Cobra SMG that Cobreti is wielding? Yeah I think so, and it has an old school large laser mount on it too, rad.
Fuck yeah. I'd be down for a bigger, longer uncut Cobra.
I continue to wait until the uncensored cut comes out.
This movie is the most 80s thing that every 80s. Let's hope this workprint is found soon
I absolute love how you read messages exactly how there typed lol
Cant believe this wasnt made into video games in the 16 bit era...
I know there were amstrad, specky and c64 titles bit something on megadrive could have been awesome
It could also be lost to one of the many storage-fires. Apparently Hollywood has a bad habit of letting video and music be lost due to poor storage. 🤷
I remember how excited I was when the unrated version of my bloody valentime was finally reelased, after the years of searching.
An uncut print was basically in the producer's closet... The actual negative trims had long since been lost (Paramount has a lousy track record of hanging onto trimmed footage).
Cobra was based on the book "Fair Game" and Cannon did not produce Robocop.
Yeah, the discovery and reintegration of the post uncut footage from My Bloody Valentine was a minor miracle. Does give hope to other like situations
The Cobra movie poster has been the wallpaper on my phone for years
Feels like the kinda thing Vinegar syndrome would be perfect for. Limited release, lovingly restored and I'd buy it no questions asked.
I found Cobra in my dad's VHS Drawer back when I was eleven. Apart from horror, no film genre has come close to entertaining!
Cobra and Event Horizon are the two movies I need to see unedited versions of before I die.
This movie would be a killer shout factory release
Cannon didn't produce RoboCop.
Nice catch! 👍 Who the hell is this "editor" anyway? 😂
I am glad you talked about this film . Still need to watch it
