      She was so great at her job! The best food tour person I've seen lately. She showed you guys so many different things to eat and knew all things culinary as well as history. And unlike others, I didn't find any misinformation about the food, either. She translated things properly for English speakers and she showed you how to eat things correctly. Awesome food guide!

      Gotta love Vietnam! also a quick question if you don't mind! but I'm going to Vietnam soon for like 1 month, starting from North to South, and a little bit in the center, planning to do stuff like Sapa, Ha long Bay, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc, Snorkeling, etc
      So the question is, should I come with Mochila outdoor or Luggage?
      (I'm not sure if it's important to mention but I'll be putting quite a lot of food in my luggage/mochila, amount of food that last around 1 week, but it's not cause I'll be sleepin in the woods or something like that, but cause I can only eat my own specific food)
      Thanks!

    What I like about Vietnamese foods is the amount of herbs and vegetables they use !! No frying. It's just look so refreshing like that. Love from India.

    • @titiung
      @titiung 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The herbs give nice aroma and flavor but thats about it. Vietnamese food also has many fried dish too, which are very unhealthy since like most countries in the world, they use vegetable oil/soybean oil, etc. to fry the food. These oils are incredibly toxic for health. In the past every used animal fat to cook, which are much healthier.

    • @doodahgurlie
      @doodahgurlie 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They do eat fried and fatty foods, but the fresh herbs and veggies used balances out the fatty stuff.

    • @titiung
      @titiung 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@doodahgurlie Actually no, the fresh herbs and veggies do not help balance out the fatty stuff, actually in this case, OILY as they are cooked in oils. Contrary to popular belief, veggies are not essential NOR healthy for you. Plants have defense mechanism, called anti-nutrients. Also, fiber is also NOT healthy. Too much fiber can cause bad constipation and bloating.
      Anti-nutrients such as oxalate in Spinach can also cause kidney stone.

    • @doodahgurlie
      @doodahgurlie 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@titiung Sure, too much of anything isn't good for you, including sugar, salt, spinach, meat, fat, etc. Moderation is the key. And as far as fiber, if you're not used to eating it then you start eating it, yes, it can cause constipation and bloating. Overall, most people whom eat well will have better bowel movements by eating more fiber. When I was saying balance out the fatty stuff, I was more referring to it cutting the fatty flavor so you're not just eating fat on fat. But yes, it is also healthy for you as well.

    • @titiung
      @titiung 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@doodahgurlie Fat is an exception. Fat cause satiation. If you eat more fat, there will be the point when you feel satiated and full and will stop eating. Saturated fat increases total cholesterol, which has zero negative impact to your body. But the moment you ingest more sugar and carbohydrate, they damage the cholesterol, thats when you will suffer

    Thank you for such a positive video about the amazing city and food of Hanoi! It’s soooo good to see tourists back after two long years of VN being completely closed. I’m an expat living in Hanoi and there were a few things you tried that I’ve never tried -- the worms and the red jelly fish. Seems like you had a great time on the tour and Wendy was such a fun and personable guide!

  • @blackknightz5036
    @blackknightz5036 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Something that you don't see alot of people mention is vietnamese foods are light on the stomach so you don't feel stuffed and can eat even more, the addition of fresh herbs in almost every dish is also a big reason.

    When I hired a tour guide in Hanoi she told me she was a foodie about 10 minutes in. So we changed plans to have her show me and my brother all the good local food and shout her at the same time. At first she was very happy but when we arrived at the sixth place she showed us she looked very unhappy and ended the tour early. We later found out we scared her with how much we could eat and she couldn't keep up 🤣

    I was researching about vietnam and found your channel. You guys have a very refreshing content and joyful style.
    Can you tell me one thing, looking at the amount of food you guys had in this food tour, was it too much for you or was it just enough? Also, would you recommend this food tour for a 1st timer, or going directly to some of these vendors and buying food from them?

    • @doodahgurlie
      @doodahgurlie 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      If you're not familiar with Vietnamese food, then take the tour. They can show you how the food is eaten properly as a lot of foreigners aren't eating it properly so they will then think the food is bland. Viet food uses a lot of herbs, dips, etc. Also the tour guides may be able to customize the food you want to eat for a more enjoyable experience or find you the better tasting of that version of the food.

      I recommend notto add butter on Bun Oc, it ll affect the aroma of wine rice vinegar and the taster of snail. Of course, the broth absolutely should be clear to enjoy the taste much better. Ty 😊

      Thanks Lamar! We really enjoyed most of the things we tried... and even the ones we liked less it really was because of the texture. It's so new to us, so unfamiliar, but we're glad we gave it a try too.

    Tip for crossing traffic in Vietnam:
    Many tourist foreigners scared of traffic in VN . The rule to win this fear is keep routin slowly walking when you across of streams of motobike! bykers knows how to avoide you themself in chaos-order! remmember do not runs and stop suddently , accident immidiatly ! Don’t be affraid and do if you want to be safety every across the crazy- traffic in Vietnam.

    Hello!
    Watching you now: So many food memories come back to me going to Vietnam so many years ago: One place (mid country. I have forgotten the name😔) had deer/ venison tofu 😘
    A place in Hué served me a yellow chicken curry over rice. Sprinkled with coursly grinded black pepper. But the pepper bits moved...(also a rat in that restaurant)😟.
    Amazing spring rolls in Na Thrang/Mui Ne.
    Best phô in HMC.
