- It's now officially "the holidays" and Christ knows, when I think of Thanksgiving I automatically think of EYEHATEGOD. Here's a little live footage to get us all in the holiday spirit. Also, look for ole Phil at 4:00 smiling like he's havin' a damn good time.

I honestly love Dax’s and Mike’s vocals equally. Mike kinda reminds me of Kurt Cobain’s harsh vocal’s during eyehategod’s first two albums at some parts.

This is Sandstone Ampitheater, Bonner Springs, KS 1996. Opening for White Zombie and Pantera. A 16 year old me is in that crowd, enjoying my first concert ever. Still have the ticket stub.
That must've been fucking insane! Have seen EHG only once so far and they kicked ass. One of my favorite bands. Saw Rob twice for his solo stuff. Pantera broke up way before I ever got to see them. Remember the day Dimebag got shot and still gutted about it.
EHG was also the first band I had ever seen! They always put on a hell of a show

Man this footage is great! The crowd coming to see Pantera had no idea what to think of EYEHATEGOD. I was the only one out of all my friends who saw them on that tour who even had that album Take as needed for pain. To this day one of the best metal albums of all time. Mike9 bring the band to Knoxville!!!

Absolutely agree. It's down right shameful that sludge has almost gone by the wayside. I honestly can't even imagine any American metal band going on with any hopes of being "real" (and I even hate that fucking moniker) without some sort of sludge metal influence. Look, that IS American these days........in my humble opinion.
Saw EYEHATEGOD in Winnipeg at a club in 2018, they were amazing!!!! Mike Williams is a really cool guy when I met him after the show!

What do we have in the Americas? Nothing too great since the death of Chuck, Dimebag, and Peter Steele.

Hatebreed, shadows fall, killswitch engage, lamb of god, etc. Then same side of US east coast obiturary, morbid angel, etc. And i havnt even got into phil anselmo side bands or max cavalera side bands soulfly and cavalera conspiracy is pretty sick dude, yes euro metal is extreme i prefer america though they both have amazing bands. Its not a contedt were all brothers dude we need to stick together were a dying breed!

Were they opening for Pantera during this performance? It's like the crowd isn't really doing anything but standing and staring, looking around, and some of the have Pantera shirts on. Like if Pantera went on stage it would be like they are kicking the shit out of each other.

EHG: best Montesano conquest ever. Buzz and Dale really upped their game post Kurdt, tightened things up, way more skillful. This band will join the melvins in playing for eternity no doubt. You can see Dale's fang marks in all of them, but the drummer of course is the best one. Probably tasted best too.

Sludge is still going strong, same with a good deal of old school DM bands, but you have to agree that their sound is derived from European groups, even though sludge I would say is the child of European doom and American hardcore, the REAL hardcore, not this gay half-assed groove shit we have nowadays. The fact is the closest thing the Americas have to a resurgence is Max Cavalera and Robb Flynn pulling their heads out of their asses and getting back to what made them famous in the first place.

I get what you mean. I personally death metal bands that derive their sound from Kreator (At the Gates, Morbid Angel, Malevolent Creation, etc.) to Kreator themselves. But I don't go around saying "Ah, Kreator is SO weak compared to Malevolent Creation!" because I'm not a dick. And yeah, even though sludge is still going strong, it does suck that many of the bands that set the standard for it have kind of gone by the wayside.
