Their guitarist's name is Jimmy Bower. He's also one of the most prolific and important musicians in New Orleans, both as a guitarist and drummer. Other notable bands he's belonged to/is in are Crowbar,Corrosion of Conformity,Superjoint Ritual, and Down.
You can thank Bower for mostly anything you hear from NOLA...he played drums in a shit load of bands back in the late '80's for demos and stuff like that as well.
Sludge metal is a form of heavy metal music that fuses doom metal and hardcore punk. Sludge metal is typically aggressive and abrasive; often featuring shouted vocals, heavily distorted instruments and sharply contrasting tempos. I thought that sludge was exactly that LOL
Hey, for all those who argue about the genre, Mike himself said in the special Vynil edition (I think it's a reissue of Take As Needed for Pain) that the band's genre is Southern Hardcore Blues. Let's keep it that way, okay?
Like any acquired taste, once you have it, it's your favorite. I fucking love EHG now, and without fail, when I catch a buzz I want EHG and not much else. Love.
the magnetic underneath the strings on the body of the guitar. it is essential to an electric guitar and plays a big role in the overall sound/tone of the guitar. if you got any guitar questions, feel free to message me.
When they played this in Finland the crowd raided the stage, people stage diving everywhere and shit. It's the exact opposite what the crowd was doing in this vid. Crazy shit.
Gear wise? I saw SuperJoint Ritual a couple of years ago and his setup was as follows: He uses a David McNaught custom guitar, a Gibson SG and a Gibson Sonex. He removes the high E and B srings and plays through Randall heads with the bass and volume all the way up and the treble all the way down. I think he uses Mesa Cabs.
dude i usually dont like metal (exept for sabbath) but this band and stoner metal kicks ass. its like these bands really got a black sabbath influence.
does any nola/eyehategod freak know when a new album is coming??i know they've been through a lot of crap and DOWN is very busy right now but hell,i want a new one soooo bad, preaching was their last and its been so long, well the real last album was back in 99 or 2000 confederacy...info?
No doubt. Check out Cavity. I can guarantee you that you'll like them. The only problem is that their stuff tends to be REALLY hard to find. I think they broke up in 2002. They were definitely inspired by EHG.
dean ml, dean v, gibson les paul, sg, flying v mahogany guitars give a darker sound in my experience and humbucker pickups are the only way to go. hope i helped
@fetusliquor just my two cents: sometimes EHG makes me smile! there's something that feels soooo good when you listen a great sludggish, slow, distorted riff that just makes you smile & drop another shot of tequila! :)
EYEHATEGOD Terribly underrated band, I'm surprised they are not taken into account in metal. If You Ask Me Dopesick and Confederacy Of Ruined Lives are the heaviest albums they've ever made. They sound very extreme! Take As Needed Pain isn't far behind either.
Some bands like EHG throw in some hardcore too. And I've tried to play Bower-style riffs. It is hard to not make faces while doing it. Heavy+Bluesy+Punky=looking like you got kicked in the balls.
@Andrew11381138 all of them but dopesick and confederacy of ruined lives are my favorites, there good albums to listen to from start to finish because they have an atmosphere to them

That he is, brotha. THAT. HE. IS 🤘🏻
Interviewer to Philip H Anselmo: "What is the New Orleans sound?"
Philip: "Jimmy Bower!"
Never liked the sound of guitar feedback...that is until I found Eyehategod.
EYELOVEFEEDBACK
If it wasn't for Mikey EHG would have been old news 10 years ago. Its his voice and perspective with that slow sabbath crunch that keeps it here.

You can thank Bower for mostly anything you hear from NOLA...he played drums in a shit load of bands back in the late '80's for demos and stuff like that as well.

@WPcannibal The singer Mike IX is best friends with Phil Anselmo and the guitarist Jimmy Bower is the drummer for Down.

dude i usually dont like metal (exept for sabbath) but this band and stoner metal kicks ass. its like these bands really got a black sabbath influence.
