  • The recruits featured in the squad bay of this platoon show what motivated recruits and dedicated drill instructors can achieve in less than 13 weeks. Not yet Marines only recruits these young men are on the path to great things. Recognition to the drill instructors of this platoon for this excellent presentation.

    For those who have never been to bootcamp, I cant speak on Paris Island but in MCRD San Diego when practicing for initial drill they made select recruits mess up on purpose so that the Drill Instructor knows how to identify and react to them. Initial and final drill are inspections not only for recruits, but drill instructors as well.

It’s depressing for us SoCal natives when you’re up at Camp Pendleton for phase 3/crucible cuz you’re right next to the 5 fwy and see cars and trains goin up and down… I would just think where are they going while I’m stuck here? LA, Tijuana, San Diego?

      Was on PI in 1995.. still remember our DIs, brought in recruits about to graduate to show us how tight and neat they were.. found it odd that 2 of those recruits were laughing and not paying attention and got all the recruits quarterdecked .. until we had a week left and our DIs asked for volunteers to do the same in front of a new platoon of recruits haha

    The greatest feeling was when my platoon made a bet with our drill instructor that by final drill we would pull off the perfect inspection arms and during final drill when we executed. All I remember was hearing the drill master say “perfect” and let off a little smile when we got the scores we had broken the indoor drill record and got the perfect score for inspection arms. The rock in the back actually did that on purpose for the DI. Practicing recovery and maintaining bearing is important and actually earns points on drill evals.

      Negative. Drill instructors purposely have recruits not do the command called so they can get more points during either initial drill or final drill. If the recruit stops after he messes up and freezes, and the drill instructor waits and says "recruit the command was.." it looks better to drill masters during inspection. There's a purpose to it, i remember when my platoon did the same.

      He didn’t “mess up”. It is part of the drill, the Recruit PURPOSEFULLY didn’t complete the movements. This is so the DI can give the secondary commands of "recruit the command was....". The Marine(recruit in the video) was probably chosen because he was the best Recruit(now a Marine) at drill. Think of it as a musician playing a “solo” among a large orchestra. All eyes are on that Marine in the video when he is given the secondary command by the DI.

    I think these boots are the "no so gifted ones" out of the platoon. When I went through, right before each drill test the DI's would get the baddies and they would practice all day long for like a week. Then on the night before the drill they would group them together again at the rear QD and see what they accomplished. Platoon 3004 Kilo Company Follow Series P.I. S.C. 2001.

    I remember our first stroll to our quonset huts. I was the only person that was actually marching. Having been a band geek it was easy. Even easier because our band director was a former Marine bandsman (1stMarDiv Band) who taught us to march as if we were in Marine boot camp. Learning to march AND march with the M-14 was a little more difficult but since I only had one thing new to learn I didn't have much of a problem. Just before rifle range we were doing close order drill on the big grinder (MCRD San Diego) when our platoon commander (now called senior drill instructor) saw several high school bands practicing for a parade to be held at the recruit depot. He remarked that they could sure march well. I made an involuntary snort and he asked me why. I told him that my high school band had kicked all of their backsides in a band competition not once but everytime over four years. I then mentioned our band director was a former Marine bandsman and got this funny look from the platoon commander. I don't know if it was a good look or a bad look but it damn sure didn't get me any slack. If anything it felt like he expected more from me than others on close order drill.

    Sloppy. But they are still probably still in 2nd phase. We came in second in initial drill and first in final drill. Our drill instructors were BRUTAL.

    Not only was there only 1 that was out but there was another one on the front left that was not moving his hands correctly and was not snapping good. He was thinking about it to much instead of just doing it out of muscle memory. Good thing they were just recruits. other wise good job. A for effort

    They used to adjust our arms every time at right shoulder arms, so that the whole platoon would have their rifles at the same angle. won every event except for one.

    In basic we had a guy who got sent home from Parris island after like 9 weeks and he eventually joined the army. The drill sergeants always fucked us up because he did his drill and ceremony this way. We do it slow and smooth, not as fast as you can haha.

    • @bobalobalie
      @bobalobalie 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's an impossibility. SO, stop taking out of your ass. If you fail out of ANY basic training in ANY service, you receive an RE-4 code on you DD-214. which means you are ineligible for military service PERIOD! No recruiter can get passed an RE-4 coded DD-214.

    • @TinyBoatConcerts
      @TinyBoatConcerts 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      BewareTheIdes He didn't fail out. He had some kind of infection in his leg and got sent home. That's the story I got anyways and he knew his shit about the Marines, so I assumed it was true.

    I don't see anything in the current MCO about rifle manual cadence but on the inspection arms the cadence between the first and second count seemed noticeable different than the rest of the movement. Maybe it is just me and I am getting old. We used to lose points when the graders saw that.
