One important tip you didn't mention is that when you eat or drink your life circle will flash yellow if you're improving that stat. It will give a final green flash when the stat is full then not flash any more. You use this to make sure your ape is fully fed and watered. You forgot to mention that if you use a basalt chopper on a husked coconut and drink it, it gives you a full venom and, what I think is supposed to be food poisoning shield. Carrying a precious stone makes you brave too. I'm not sure what the limits are on that though. There is an emerald high within the first settlement. You just have to climb the vines towards the back, near the coconut tree, then climb some rocks to the right. It makes a sound when it is nearby and hasn't been picked up yet. I'm not sure how to describe the sound. Not really a ringing sound but, it is very noticeable. Coconut water can also be used to help when poisoned. Mud can be applied for protection from heat and cuts (one full shield each.) In the trees nearby there is a fiber that can be applied to help cure bleeding too. Gathering those kinds of things before you need them would be best. Especially when you could lose a clan member otherwise. At least to bleeding and possibly being poisoned. We learn best by experience 😅
I know I am wildly late to the party, but one huge tip that they don't explain to you is that if you inspect the bones of the dead elders, you get a huge chunk of "experience." You can unlock any nodes that you did not reinforce from the previous generation without any issues at all. Plus, the bones stick around from previous generations and can be reexamined, basically eliminating the need to carry kids out into the field after the third generation.
@@@GamingWithAbyss There are two different stages. Just with your hand makes a pile of leaves you can apply, and then you can grind that into a paste with the granite grinder. Can't remember the specifics, but the paste is definitely better. Still, if you're out and about it's nice sometimes to be able to do this manually without having to look for granite rocks first.
@@politicallycorrectredskin796 I know this is old but I figured I'd drop it here in case it helps anybody else. Alter horse tails to get horsetail leaves if you're bleeding it will fully get rid of bleeding status. If you're not bleeding it will give small resistance to bleed. If you use a granite grinder on the horse tail leaves if you're bleeding it will do the same thing as the horse tail leaves, but if you're not bleeding it will apply full bleed resistance; so if you are just trying to get rid of the bleed status there is no need to grind it.
@@GamingWithAbyss at least on pc, there's a bright flash occurring when you need to release the button so you dont need to listen for the subtle queues, although it doesnt work when comforting a child. it works with everything else though, attacking, crafting etc. I've actually converted all the sound files to .ogg and i'm in the process of sorting trough them right now. the songs fit really well with the atmosphere i fell in love with the ost
2:08 you can strip the dead branch before sharpening it with the stone to save time and another tip: Always take hominid females who have already had 2 children for the expeditions, because their death will not be dramatic since they can no longer have children while the old males can still.
Stomach icon is not food poisoning, it’s inability to process that kind of food due to lack of specific pheromones. Food poisoning is the icon with two bubbles (infection).
I haven’t gotten too far yet: I want to get to the point where I am able to eat meat and fish. Also eggs from that bird that killed the ape in the beginning. That’ll teach him
Khat is a very good plant. It's just arrow head looking leaves that are red. They help with bone breaking and the cold too i think. They are your friends especially when against warthogs or if ur rlly good at swinging around. If i ever see a machairodus tiger then i look for kapok fiber first. Put it in my left hand and my spear in the right so if i fail but dont drop the kapok then i can hide and use it. Cocos can be opened via any rock (basalt choppers are the best more on em later) and can be used when thirsty or to help thirsty ppl. U can get honey by stripping a natal and then dipping a beehive, you use honey to deal with poisoning and 1 more thing i forgot. If you lift a liftable rock you might find mud. This will especially help you in the desert as it gives you heat resistance and some other things i think it conceals your position which lets you sneak up or get near animals without losing dopamine. If you find basalt quickly pick up another and bash them against each other to make a basalt chopper then switch the items and use the basalt chopper to make another chopper. These are your best friends. Wether your tryna sharpen a stick or open a coco these buds will sharpen a dead branch (that you haven't stripped) in 4 maybe 3 hits(faster if stripped). And open a coco in 3. Pretty sure you can open a coconut with this without the coconut breaking. You can also use it as a weapon(prolly most damaging rock) i could prolly keep going but i won't. Basically, get a basalt chopper. You definitely need it! Oh and if you eat things that will give you a stomach ache then just drink coco water or drink alot of fresh water to get rid of this effect, you can repeat this multiple times to help you get omnivorous
Oh thank you, i was feeling the same ... What's the point of giving tips on informations that are already explained by the game or actually displayed on the screen ? x) It's hard to find more specific and usefull tips about this game even few years later. Tried to watch a playtrough earlier... that person had no idea what she was doing xD (best exemple: she thought reinforcement points were to use everyday...wtf)
As a new player I'd just like to say thx for the content. All information is appreciated, no matter who made it, I thank you all. I have mixed feelings on whether I should watch videos like this or just fumble through the game on my first play and take it from there? Then I saw videos with titles like yours and figured, hehe, damn...I'd better watch some of these and see what they mean. Glad that I did. I realize that the game is intended to be a learning experience. Annnd, I've been learning, hahaha, as ever painful as the lessons may be, lol. I've started over a few times, and it looks like I will again. Having lots of fun with this game, even if it isn't the easiest. Maybe I'm just not that good, hahaha, no worries, either way thx and have fun. High five to all the helpful comments as well ;)
Your clan can mass produce sharp sticks if you double tap b for every step. So sastisfying hearing 11 members crafting spears. However if they can't find a stick or stone, they won't make one.
If you identify bones of dead family members after you skip a generation you gain a lot of xp so if you want to skip a few gens to lock in some skills and don’t want to grind xp each time just search some bones around your campsite
I found out that the babies don't have any negative effects for losing stamina while climbing. I was actually cornered by a massive cat after my adult died, I had nowhere to go but up a massive cliff face so I started climbing hoping I could reach a ledge. When my green stamina globe was fully depleted it just stayed yellow and it let me keep climbing, so I took full advantage of that and just shimmied my way back home lol. I literally climbed sideways along the cliff on the edge of the map for 5 minutes just so I wouldn't have to risk running into another predator AND I didn't have to rescue the little shit 😂
I just bought it and so far I'm loving it! Though I'm graduating this summer with a physical anthropology minor so maybe I'm just being a biased nerd :P
Coconuts can be peeled with just your hand. Then you can use a basalt chopper to poke a hole in it with one hit for a longer drink than if you just smash the covered nut open with a rock, or use an obsidian scraper to cut it in half and eat the insides. Easily my favorite food source. drinking source and anti-venom source while exploring since I discovered this.
@@@GamingWithAbyss I like to have at least one extra ape with me to carry a chopper and a scraper. But usually I go out with two extra apes, so one can carry backup sticks as well. Plus you can bring all the kids into jungle hell with three apes, which is clearly the responsible thing to do anyway. Wouldn't want to be attacked by a crocodile without two kids hanging off you.
Ok guys what I do whenever I go explore I take 2 elders with me in case if I die the elders can take the babies back to camp you gotta think of this game as a survival game to the point where everything you possibly do is a life or death situation I love this game because your always on alert...the reason why I bring 2 elders with me is because we can explore and find a place to live each time I do especially when I realize ok there’s no food here anymore time to move when I find a decent location that will do perfect to live I set up a bed I got back gather everyone up and go to the next location this game is crazy sometimes depending on where you live exactly
When you learn to dodge and attack, you are less likely to die. Unless you fall from a very high height Which I have done that already. I think the only nerve-wracking thing was when moving a settlement to the Savannah. That had me on the edge because my clan members were getting attack left and right.
i Would HIGHLY recommend turning the music off if you want an extra challenge. A lot of the time, when there is a predator nearby, the game will subtly turn the music off so that it doesn’t distract you from the predator. But spend enough time in the game and you’ll learn to recognise and use those music cut-offs as cues to immediately climb the nearest tree into safety. Having the music off, and not knowing if there is a predator or not around makes the game so much more tense and challenging, I would highly recommend.
The best part of that is not the reinforcement points. Whenever you take a kid to a meteorite that kid will get a genetic mutation so if you take 6 kids to that meteorite. All six kids will get a new genetic mutation if they don't have one
How did you get to the meteorite I can’t get to it because the giant python is right there and my ape always goes into fear mode so I can’t discover it
You dont actually need a rock to make a stik it's a lot more faster to just switch dead branch into your other hand then alter it with your other hand 90% of the time it will turn straight into a stick but you do need a rock to turn it into a pointy stick
yeah but on average the pointed stick can kill in about 1-2 hits maybe 3. I havent seriously tested the stripped stick but it takes more hits to kill something (on average)
@@theyfwkev8266 they’re just saying that it’s easier to strip a dead branch with your hands first and then use a rock to make it pointy since your hands can strip it in one go
This video rly helped me i was having trouble with this game at first feeling like i had to restart multiple times to actually get the hang of it and after watching this video i learned a lot of new things i even managed to kill 2 or 3 of the black cats in one day! I felt very good abt myself
I had no idea when they got hysteria they tried to auto run home, so I kept trying to force the monkey in the direction of the white orb haha. Top tip for fast travel to death.
I know this is years later, but amazing job on this guide. I've watched so many other guides that weren't nearly as straight-forward and didn't provide nearly the amount of information.
1.You can strip a dead branch to create a stick. 2.Banging a basalt against a rock will create a chopper, this decreases the amount of hits needed to create a sharpen stick. 3. Drinking a coconut or eating mushrooms will help drunkness (Not stomach ache) 4. Animals can climb rocks, but not barricades.
Hey man thanks for these tips i just got the game on ps4 and i missed so many things im going to start a new game and try again with ur tips thanks! :)
Just a quick tip, since there’s some pretty delicate crafting things, try to align the top of your screen with where your ape’s hand is when the timing sound effect plays, it helps you release the button in advance, instead of as a reaction to the sound, which may make you delay slightly, using too much power and breaking the material
this is for combat, when in combat and you try to kill something/dodge you have to point the way you want to go so if you wanna kill it/hit it point towards it and when dodging go back, left or right (i found when dodging always go left or right as i am 99% sure if you fail you will bleed less than going back.)
NGL I spent my first playthrough making piles and piles and piles of sticks sharpened sticks bedding and stems with no real understanding on why but I felt obligated to do so and if you advance time those piles will stay for the future generations
Thanks for this mate... I just got the game and though I would just figure it out.... half an our in I had already poisoned myself, broken bones.. had one guy eaten by a croc... and had no idea how to dodge ( because my music was high ) and all I wanted was to investigate a meterorite... Going to start another playthrough and this will help alot! I love these types of games that don't hold your hand.... but sometimes a few tips are well needed
Literally just happened to me… tell me why when I got to the meteorite there was a boar and a big ass snake surrounding it, took me so long to inspect it, barely made it out alive I was so happy then out of no where a jaguar chewed me up.. not to mention all the broken bones and deaths falling from trees and the worst one was taking a travel companion thinking we would be safer together just to watch him get mauled by a croc
I fumbled through on my first play, I feel like that’s part of the fun. Now I’m going to start over with what I learned and with tips from videos like this.
Aye FYI. The music is just as important in some ways because it notifies what the situation is. If you're in your settlement it'll be a calming mellow type of music but if your in a fight or in dangerous territory it's straight fire
Basicly how i play it now is get 6 kids and once i have learned 6 skils (or more if you find a meteorite) then its time to skip. Then immediately make 6 kids again before you start doing anything. When i go outside camp, i take a few elders with me, all equiped with a stick. When i lost mine, i take theirs and get new sticks. New clan apes are always close to your settlement. If you eat in a non conquered zone it will fill up the circle really fast. You can be the apex predator in no time if you use weapons. First few days i was going trough trees, bubt after the first evolve there is nothing to fear. Haha after killing the first few tigers i said outlloud "i am the danger" Ooh and there are some really usefull maps on the interwebs. Most important, dont rush!
just wanna say, if you dont have this game, get it, i havnt been this in love with a game in a long time, i cant keep my mind off it, not for people who need easy and instant gratification, but for those who enjoy a slow playstyle this game is a masterpiece
I think the game would be much better and more of a game if you just simply had the ability to initiate attacks to hunt, in stead of stupid dodging and countering… They Could have also made the movement more fluid in stead of stiff with a bad camera angle. Or at least mods or COOP, with all these problems the game is still OK but it could have been sooo much better
Your Max actually is at 6 children, whenever I leave my settlement I always have 2 adult males carrying 2 children each while I carry 2 children n we explore on. Also don’t skip all the cutscenes cause some areas cause meteors to show up, each meteor allows all 6 children to have genetic mutations so that’s 12 genetic mutations stored over from just 1 evolution. Plus finding 1 meteor cause you to be able to double your nodes. Each generation can have up to 12 nodes that can be saved. Adding to the 6 genetic mutation each generation as well.
I like to err on the side of caution. All mutations stay in camp and 1 kid per adult with enough adults to quickly evacuate ALL kids if something happens. It’s saved me a few times.
You can inspect them if you aren’t sure, and you’re ape will either let you know that it’s good or turn away from it and that would show that it’s not good.
You can just use that very common item I can’t remember it’s name for bleeds it’s found it trees it’s like a spiked fruit and you can rub it on yourself to stop bleeding.
I would check out my guide because I break down the sound cues you need to listen to. But your main goal is to approach the animal then you will hear a sound cue you will hold the X button on PlayStation then move the left stick in the direction you want to go afterward you'll hear a second sound cue then you will release the x button. If done correctly you would either Dodge or attack the enemy
If anyone was having trouble hearing the sound queue like I was just turn your music down or at like 5 percent. Then turn your master volume down to 20 percent and turn your rtx volume to 100. Then turn your headset volume all the way up
If you hold the drop button (not while climbing), you can throw stuff. Very useful if you just want to grab a couple coconuts and throw them into your settlement.
Just wanna say I just got this game and was a bit curious about so I figured I’d look it up. Great tips all around and very appreciated thank you so much 😊🙏🏻
first time playing i ended up eating bird eggs, got sick and the mother of the bird came and killed me. then i ended up on next gen, i went exploring for food and fell out of a tree, broke my leg severly, AND got chased by a green mamba, was able to climb a tree for safety with my broke leg, then i jumped down and almmost got killed by a warthog, but luckily i had a sharp stick in my hand, and killed it. i decided it was time to go back to camp after tht lol
as far as the hysteria thing with the conquering fear. i've used that a bunch in the first stage to get back home and i'm in stage 3 now and haven't really noticed anything because of it. It seems to just be a easy way to get back to your settlement. also one thing i dont see people mentioning alot is that there is a couple different biomes in the game. but i will warn you it gets harder the farther out you go
oh yeah the canyon, beach and desert arent places to live at, the savanna is pretty ruthless so maybe you'd rather moving if your evolution spawns you there, in my case i'm staying because i really like it
Thanks for this videos, now I can play this game in a better way, although the sound doesn't matter too much to me as I can still hear the animals approaching as it's default mode
My kid was asking questions just before you mentioned the topic she was asking about, Almost as if she was queuing you, My little mind reader or something.
You asked if we could add to "Things I wish I knew earlier", I wouldn't know because I wasn't there. Also this was a good video; although you vocally sounded as if it was a chore a stoic mood. Where then very end of the video you seemed relived it was over.
ik the video is old but i think its important the fact that outside your clan zone the game will always try to find the perfect timing to spawn a tiger programmed to attack you once you pass your first generation or evolution
thank you for taking the time to make this video, i will use your tips especially about the meteorite, i have learned to make a sharpened stick and how to get the honey but having problems making a grinder and a scraper but i will get there lol
Primates will die all the time especially early on in the game. My first death was just swinging around on a bunch of trees and then when I got to the last branch I kept going and fell to my death. If the kid did not die you will quickly control the kid and have to go to a hiding spot. I find it best to locate the kid by going into intelligence mode and hitting the sound button. You should be able to locate the kid a little better
I wouldn't use hysteria to fast travel. Only had it happen once, and it whipped out my homosapians energy circle. It was crazy tiny. Basically, it made that one useless. Mind you, I was under attack at the time it happened, but definitely avoid it. It stresses your avatar out. Unless, of course, you like gray circles.
I have to admit that this game is so frustrating that i didn't even want to play it and i really needed some tip and trick to help me to understand the game better and finally some videos youtube.
i just recently started playing this and i’m struggling with killing predators, i’m constantly getting attacked by the saber tooth or whatever it is and i’m not getting a button to press to attack it, it’s very annoying and frustrating
When the screen prompts A, hold A down and push left analog stick towards the predators and you'll see your pointy stick point towards the predator and then let go and you'll attack. You need to do this more than once for bigger predators like tigers.
I honestly love the way this game doesn't tell you how to do things specifically. It actually kinda makes you feel as if you were there living in that time
Can somebody tell me how to do the “Recruit an outsider” objective? I recruited the first two that were outside the oasis and when it prompted me to do the objective, i couldn’t find anymore outsiders and I’ve searched FAR and WIDE.
Might be a bit late but you can do it have 6 apes of each age (elder, child and adult) so if you have 6 adults you can’t befriend any more so they don’t show up

You can unlock any nodes that you did not reinforce from the previous generation without any issues at all. Plus, the bones stick around from previous generations and can be reexamined, basically eliminating the need to carry kids out into the field after the third generation.
Can you play with mates ?
@@_matthewbrereton unfortunately not
You can alter the horsetail plant and then apply it to your skin when your bleeding
Yes that's right once you make a grinder
If you use a granite grinder on the horse tail leaves if you're bleeding it will do the same thing as the horse tail leaves, but if you're not bleeding it will apply full bleed resistance; so if you are just trying to get rid of the bleed status there is no need to grind it.

they added a visual queue in a recent patch so you dont need to listen for it anymore, turn the music back on its phenomenally good
wow that is good to know because you can barely hear it with the music
@@GamingWithAbyss at least on pc, there's a bright flash occurring when you need to release the button so you dont need to listen for the subtle queues, although it doesnt work when comforting a child. it works with everything else though, attacking, crafting etc.

This game is amazing. Because it’s different. And a great survival game.
Your spot-on. It's a unique Survivor game and I think that's why I liked it as much as I did
Yeah, I'm glad you dont have to eat and drink every second like a lot of other survival games.
2:08 you can strip the dead branch before sharpening it with the stone to save time
and another tip:
Always take hominid females who have already had 2 children for the expeditions, because their death will not be dramatic since they can no longer have children while the old males can still.

Yeah cant even find a decent walkthrough...where are all the people who really understand the game?
High five to all the helpful comments as well ;)
thank you I appreciate it
Your clan can mass produce sharp sticks if you double tap b for every step.

When you unlock bipedalism, you can run faster by being in alert mode (alert button + sprint button + move forward button)

Game is available on Epic games on sale for $19, AND right now they give you a holiday coupon for $10. So essentially as of now its $9.99.
That's definitely a good deal for the game
Yeah it’s 40$ on PlayStation store.
I just bought it and so far I'm loving it! Though I'm graduating this summer with a physical anthropology minor so maybe I'm just being a biased nerd :P
I bought it exactly during that time
that is such a steal, one of my favorite games this gen already.
I went exploring and a tiger ate one of my tribe mates. Then one died of bleeding. Then one died of poison and im all alone.
This game def doesn't hold your hand. Thanks for this lol. Someone said get a stick for honey, so thought stick stick, didnt think nettle stick lol
you're welcome
Coconuts can be peeled with just your hand. Then you can use a basalt chopper to poke a hole in it with one hit for a longer drink than if you just smash the covered nut open with a rock, or use an obsidian scraper to cut it in half and eat the insides. Easily my favorite food source. drinking source and anti-venom source while exploring since I discovered this.
The basalt chopper is my favorite tool. I practically take it everywhere I go
@@@GamingWithAbyss I like to have at least one extra ape with me to carry a chopper and a scraper.
This is really helpful and spoilers kept to absolute minimum. Thanks!
You're welcome and good luck
Spent the first hours as the child trying to make a bed. Then realised you could switch clan members to accomplish this!!
Standing up also increases the range of senses!
i Would HIGHLY recommend turning the music off if you want an extra challenge. A lot of the time, when there is a predator nearby, the game will subtly turn the music off so that it doesn’t distract you from the predator. But spend enough time in the game and you’ll learn to recognise and use those music cut-offs as cues to immediately climb the nearest tree into safety. Having the music off, and not knowing if there is a predator or not around makes the game so much more tense and challenging, I would highly recommend.
the funny thing is at the beginning of the game I turn the music off so that I can hear the sound cues when a Predator is attacking
I wish I knew the meteorite granted reinforcement points, I was wondering how I had a total of 7. I had one kid on my back when I discovered it
The best part of that is not the reinforcement points. Whenever you take a kid to a meteorite that kid will get a genetic mutation so if you take 6 kids to that meteorite. All six kids will get a new genetic mutation if they don't have one
How did you get to the meteorite I can’t get to it because the giant python is right there and my ape always goes into fear mode so I can’t discover it
@@clapzy417 pick up stick and scream
@@clapzy417 ya you can usually intimidate snakes by yourself. if not, take more apes.
You can lift rocks with dead branches and sticks too
Yes both of those will work as well too
You dont actually need a rock to make a stik it's a lot more faster to just switch dead branch into your other hand then alter it with your other hand 90% of the time it will turn straight into a stick but you do need a rock to turn it into a pointy stick
yeah but on average the pointed stick can kill in about 1-2 hits maybe 3. I havent seriously tested the stripped stick but it takes more hits to kill something (on average)
@@theyfwkev8266 they’re just saying that it’s easier to strip a dead branch with your hands first and then use a rock to make it pointy since your hands can strip it in one go

Thank you, finally a well structured guide!!
You're welcome!
1.You can strip a dead branch to create a stick.
2.Banging a basalt against a rock will create a chopper, this decreases the amount of hits needed to create a sharpen stick.
3. Drinking a coconut or eating mushrooms will help drunkness (Not stomach ache)
4. Animals can climb rocks, but not barricades.

Thank you and I have a part 2 video which is a little advance
I'm checking it out right now lol it's making me wanna post another video on my other channel lol
Just a quick tip, since there’s some pretty delicate crafting things, try to align the top of your screen with where your ape’s hand is when the timing sound effect plays, it helps you release the button in advance, instead of as a reaction to the sound, which may make you delay slightly, using too much power and breaking the material
This game is mad I’m walking on two feet and not scared of any animals. Killed a rhino. Fuck yeah

this is for combat, when in combat and you try to kill something/dodge you have to point the way you want to go so if you wanna kill it/hit it point towards it and when dodging go back, left or right (i found when dodging always go left or right as i am 99% sure if you fail you will bleed less than going back.)
o yea it makes sense if u go back it would be a deep woundd if the predator catches u but it would be a superficial wound if u went to the sides
NGL I spent my first playthrough making piles and piles and piles of sticks sharpened sticks bedding and stems with no real understanding on why but I felt obligated to do so and if you advance time those piles will stay for the future generations
Thanks for this mate... I just got the game and though I would just figure it out....
half an our in I had already poisoned myself, broken bones.. had one guy eaten by a croc... and had no idea how to dodge ( because my music was high )
and all I wanted was to investigate a meterorite... Going to start another playthrough and this will help alot! I love these types of games that don't hold your hand.... but sometimes a few tips are well needed
Literally just happened to me… tell me why when I got to the meteorite there was a boar and a big ass snake surrounding it, took me so long to inspect it, barely made it out alive I was so happy then out of no where a jaguar chewed me up.. not to mention all the broken bones and deaths falling from trees and the worst one was taking a travel companion thinking we would be safer together just to watch him get mauled by a croc

you're welcome
Haha after killing the first few tigers i said outlloud "i am the danger"
Ooh and there are some really usefull maps on the interwebs.
Most important, dont rush!

Yeah the game is definitely unique and I was hooked for some odd reason once I started playing
no it's not.
@@Marcoffs83 yes, it is
I think the game would be much better and more of a game if you just simply had the ability to initiate attacks to hunt, in stead of stupid dodging and countering… They Could have also made the movement more fluid in stead of stiff with a bad camera angle.
Or at least mods or COOP, with all these problems the game is still OK but it could have been sooo much better
Thank you very much. I'd love to see a full gameplay series from you. 😍
Berrys can rotten if u see a berry that’s a different color dont eat it only eat red colored berries in the starter base
I don't know if they are rotten or just not ripe. either or you're right you don't want to eat them
You can inspect them if you aren’t sure, and you’re ape will either let you know that it’s good or turn away from it and that would show that it’s not good.
Just bought this game on steam for like $13. It's really good so far and this comment section and video is really helpful haha

as far as the hysteria thing with the conquering fear. i've used that a bunch in the first stage to get back home and i'm in stage 3 now and haven't really noticed anything because of it. It seems to just be a easy way to get back to your settlement. also one thing i dont see people mentioning alot is that there is a couple different biomes in the game. but i will warn you it gets harder the farther out you go

i just recently started playing this and i’m struggling with killing predators, i’m constantly getting attacked by the saber tooth or whatever it is and i’m not getting a button to press to attack it, it’s very annoying and frustrating
When the screen prompts A, hold A down and push left analog stick towards the predators and you'll see your pointy stick point towards the predator and then let go and you'll attack. You need to do this more than once for bigger predators like tigers.
