Unfortunately, most survival games fall into the same trap of connecting the game's accelerated time frame to hunger and thirst. What this means is that you then need to not just constantly eat and drink, but also eat and drink in obscenely large amounts. No one needs to eat a buffet's worth of food every five minutes, but in a survival game that seems to be the case. It's incredibly annoying because having to do nothing but eat and drink isn't entertaining.

It may have been left out due to Project Zomboid being the hot Zombie survival game atm I love PZ but it falls into the same trope of accelerated thirst/hunger deaths.
@@silaswalgenbach465 LMAO Ive played hundred of hours of DayZ and you have to eat mountains of certain foods or fill yourself up till you only eat slightly ridiculous amounts. I get that steaks/fat fill you up more, but theres also the cold hard fact that apples in real life fill you up and your not gonnna sit there and eat twelve apples and still be hungry. The nutrition system in DayZ is honestly jank as fuck.
@@carpelunam Okay. But nevertheless it is never comparable to the amount of food you have to eat in Stranded Deep or The Forest (I can say it from my experience). So for me DayZ is not a food game like SD or TF.

The Long Dark has been a favorite of mine since it was in beta, and it has changed a lot over the years with more challenges and survival options. It does an excellent job giving you the freedom to choose where/how to survive without being a world/building base game. Absolutely my favorite game to play on a cold winter day with a warm blanket!
The Long Dark is absolutely in a class of it's own - you have to pay close attention to the color of the sky the quiet is all-consuming. It's visually amazing. It's too hard, I can barely scavenge some twigs without getting lost the wolves always get me, I can't hit the rabbits with my rocks I wanna go home.
Man, the Long Dark is such a gem. The world is beautiful, melancholic, and cold - and the player is just scrabbling to keep warm, like a mouse in a snowcovered log.
Kingdom Come Deliverance on Hardcore mode with all the negative perks on, perfect combination between a medieval simulator a survival game and a Rpg without beign frustrating, one of my favorite games of all time.

@@themanjambam lmao it’s frustrating but it’s also really really really good… The two aren’t related, but bizarrely it almost feels like Morrowind in a way. You can get totally wrecked by stumbling into a simple bandit camp unprepared 😂
The forest was my first “survival” game I think. I had no clue what to do and I was terrified 99.9% of the time. Since then I’ve played a lot of survival games, I’m horrible at all of them.
@@jeomaislekker Ikr, I finished the story with a bunch of friends. Meanwhile, playing single player actually made me an ultimate survivor on hard survival with at least 70 strength and 100 agility. I was able to take on groups of cannibals back to back as well as mutated enemies on my own. Jumping from trees to trees, managed to memorize cannibal routes and caves. Very fun and challenging game.
I barely had it for a week and a half, now I can't put it down it has become my 2nd life, best I've lasted is 11 days and it was due to a car accident 🤣
Tried and fell in love with Project Zomboid several years back. Finally got a PC to game on again last year, and was so stoked to see how far it's come. Such a fun game.
@@chrisredfield6274I’ve clocked 104 hours on project zomboid and I got it a couple weeks ago when I built my first pc, amazing game with even more amazing mods
The Forest is one of the few survival games I actually really enjoyed..it wasn’t overly complicated to create things, and you weren’t constantly bombarded with little things that threaten your health..u were able to just worry about the basics, the cannibal mutants and it had an interesting storyline. So that was good enough for me👍 great vid fellas
@@pickford3152 I suppose any game is worth a try at that price, not sure why I’ve been putting it off, maybe just my big backlog. But you know what, I’m gonna go download it now. Glad to hear you enjoy it mate 👍🏻👍🏻
Don't Starve is no joke, the game gets really hard really quick for newcomers. Basically you learn as you play and almost everytime you reach a point that you never have before, something you can't expect happens and you die. And that makes it so rewarding when you do prepare for these events the next time you play and survive them. Also The Flame In The Flood is a really amazing game and in my experience quite difficult as well.
@@tristanlabuschagne3278 Yeah i know that game. It's the one with the isometric view right ? There's one with Aliens as well those 2 are some of my childhood games. Though i think they're more towards Action than survival.
Frost punk is definitely my favorite, I've spent many countless hours paying it. The story is so intriguing and it has many scenarios that are somewhat connected together. I absolutely love the freedom this game gives you, it puts you under a lot of pressure being responsible for a large amount of people that just keep going up. you got to organize your people by making Laws and keep their hope up while trying to make sure they are warm and have enough food, you also need to research many new technologies and keep up to date as resources are scarce and you can’t get enough without advanced technologies. Not to mention your interactions with the outer world reying to understand what caused the ice age. I don’t want to spoil the game but if you’re a lover of survival games, city building games (or both!) you NEED to try this one out
The Long Dark is an absolute MUST for survival gamers. It can be incredibly unforgiving but it is well worth the struggle. Green Hell just behind it for the constant survival factor and sheer experience of the jungle. I've personally been with TLD since 2014 and it's come a long way.
Your meaning was clear and stated poetically. Ignore that person. Either their English is terrible or they need to beef up their reading comprehension.
Unreal World is epic. I remember back in late 1990 or early 2000 when me and my brother first bought that game straight from the developer. The developer sent a floppy disk via mail. I'm so glad that the game is in Steam after all these years! A great survival game although quite hard to master.
Green Hell is a true Gem man you don't know unless you give it a chance and actually put some time into it but man it is a beautiful amazingly well done game that feels refreshing to play. Loved it ❤
@@davidb.6790 Not really, I think it warrants a blind play through. However, what I would tell you is don't spend too much time preparing and don't be afraid to start a new game. Make sure to read the exact objectives and do side missions.
@@narindersingh9802 don't remember exactly, but 4 gb ram, intel integrated graphics and i5 7th gen. At low, I got decent atleast 30 fps (don't remember exactly so just telling lowest I think I would have gotten).
I loved playing Ancestors. The fun mainly comes from the exploration and developing new skills, so its really only great the first time around. It is worth a play if you've ever wanted to be an ape swinging through trees, or you're fascinated by anthropology.
Same. It was one of the best gaming experiences I ever had, even though the game is far from being perfect. I wish I could play it for the first time again.
The Long Dark can be really unforgiving on higher difficulties. I started playing one of the challenge scenarios, and couldn't get out of the starting region, because there was barely any loot to take, I had only basic clothes on me, and there were wolves everywhere! But I love the game anyway, it's a lot of fun and the atmosphere just gives you chills at times. Green Hell was fun too, though it took me a while to get used to. The campaign was slightly underwhelming, but I'm actually more glad I got the bad ending. Don't Starve is cool, but hard. Definitely something for Tim Burton fans, I think. The rest, I know of (almost all of them), but either didn't play, or didn't care for. Another couple of survival sims you've missed (deliberately or not) are: 1. "7 days to die", a zombie-survival. Yeah, it's unrealistic, but can be challenging. 2. "Stranded Deep". This one's more realistic, though some things like animal behaviours are stretched to make a challenge, and certain things can feel arcady. Both are still in development though, so maybe that's why you didn't include them?
@@irvinnorris7041 no to both. In fact, verticality in TLD is problematic, because you can hurt yourself by falling from even smaller heights. This is explained as your character having a heavy backpack and several layers of clothes, but I'm not buying it. And tree houses are a bad idea, because of the wind. There's actually little point in having player-built shelter, because of all the pre-existing buildings you can inhabit. You can build treehouses in Green Hell as per one of the latest updates. And you can climb palm trees in Stranded Deep, to pick coconuts.
Few games have emotionally rocked me as much as This War of Mine, and the fact that they have a pure charity-DLC is just... The whole thing is a testament to the story telling potential of the video game medium. HIGHLY RECOMMEND it!
I recently re-played it and it's just as good the second time! You really feel connected to your survivors and it really makes you try to do everything right to ensure the survival of each one. Changed my outlook on war.
Dude, in The Long Dark you have to move around to gather limited supplies at first, but you failed to mention that your character LEARNS to make all his own supplies from the environment as you go… You eventually craft and fix clothes with animal parts, cook the food you hunted, boil your herbal remedies, and make your own bow from sticks and bird feathers and whatnot… It’s not just that you stay at a location until the location runs out of supplies and move on, you’re snowballing in knowledge the entire time until you’re a bonafide wild man. Glad you covered it but it’s more in depth and has much more long-term playability than I feel was implied.
@@soulknife20 I wouldn’t say you feel like you’re thriving, but you feel like you’re mastering nature… I never got to where I felt comfortable or secure. I never felt like Tarzan. It always felt like one mistake would cost me dearly, it usually didn’t, but the game is good at making you feel oppressed that way. Maybe it’s the bleak weather, give it a shot, it’s complex but damn good.
Hopping into the forest without knowing about the mutants beforehand was terrifying, they rolled up to me and friend’s little fort one night , we were chilling inside only to hear the haunting noises they make and being scared to even look outside. We went looking for the gun parts right after that encounter 😅
That's always the best part. Discoverying shi for the first time. Once u get good they become a joke. Just like in Ark exploring the caves with the homies was scary asf for the first time
On my first night, I was in my tree house just chillin when i hear random laughin and grunts all of a sudden. I thought it was my neighbor so I removed my headphones. I waited for a bit, it was quiet, so I put it back on. When I got back in the game mfkers were standing near the bottom of my tree, just staring at me. It was hella stress
The Forest is such a beautiful game. The single player is very challenging and surprisingly terrifying cause of the amount of enemies you can encounter at least twice a day. The multiplayer co-op experience with friends is so fun. You get to uncover the secrets and the story behind the island you are stuck in, and do a lot of things to grow and survive. I'm excited for Sons of the Forest.
I bought it thinking it would lighten up with a happy ending. I'm so glad it didn't. The happy ending is that you effing survive. The first time I couldn't move a character because they were "broken", absolutely floored me. Fantastic game!
Empyrion is my all time favorite survival game. People never seen to mention it. It is one of those hidden gems. Subnautica is also amazing, mainly in VR.
Glad he mentioned it but he kind of sold it short. Forgot to mention you can craft your own clothes and weapons and stuff from plants and animals, as you learn about the environment.
@@The.Nasty. Not only can you, but as time goes on and everything you find gets used and decays, you absolutely have to craft your own clothes and weapons to get to 500 days
Frostpunk is brutal. Essentially that's what makes the game so good. Without the constant feeling of dread, hopelessness and futility, it would just be another ordinary survival sim.
@@dankety81 yeah I totally get what you mean. Its that constant feeling of tension that makes you feel that despair. The sound cues are very distinct and adds to the overall feel of the game. Makes me want to play it again

The point of green hell is constantly dealing with infections, diseases, and parasites in your body that you acquire in a variety of ways all the time. It's more like a frustration simulator. Green Hell: Spirits of Amazonia is the perfect balance. There aren't many survival games that have a decent story, and those that do typically task you with finding a wife, child, or someone else of equal importance. This always kinda ruins immersion for me because if my immediate family is missing, I'm not gonna go spend a week chopping down dozens of trees to build a fully furnished treehouse.
Hey here's a tip now I don't know if this works for you guys, so if you wear and equip both helmet and the body armor your hp doesn't decrease and you become invincible.
I've had project Zomboid for about a week and a half and it's been the best. It's difficult but in a good way. The longest I've lasted is 11 days and I didn't go out by a horde, I died due to a car accident.
Frost Punk is very addictive and fun. I enjoyed playing this game so much. It makes you wonder if one day the world would end up this way, and this would be the way people survive and how they would live. It offers challenges and rewarding moments when you end a day on a good note. But damn when you start to struggle and fall behind, it’s very punishing and troublesome to come back from any mistakes you make. It’s one of those games you need to make every decision correctly, or you’ll suffer from it further down the play through
The Long Dark is the rightful winner here. I’ve never played anything like it. It’s an absolute work of art and endlessly enjoyable. You’ll end up addicted to it, printing maps off the internet, speaking to people online to solve tough parts, and watching TH-cam videos. It’s just fantastic.
PZ is just much better than DZ. The depth of the game is crazy, DZ feels really unfinished and the combat is just horrible haha Not shititng on your game bro, just giving reasons for why they probably missed it off the list.
@UC6uWi5YW7KwvU-4PJe8XLyw Project Zomboid. I get it's style may not be for everyone, but the depth of survival and in game mechanics are unbelievable. Honestly bro, I can't recommend the game enough. Because both are essentially Zombie survival games, that will be the reason Day Z is missing from the list mate
@@aaronfarricker1475 PZ is just not personally engaging enough for me and the highly stylised graphics definitely makes it harder to get into, i think it takes away from the tone. It definitely narrows down the audience and that’s why dayZ has a much larger player base. Plus it’s all online and never gets lonely
Ancestors was so amazing. I really enjoyed evolving to get better and I loved figuring things out like how to make a stick weapon. The only bad thing about the game is how long it takes to evolve. In the beginning it works well, but I already saw every biome in the game by the time I was halfway through the evolution line. It makes it very hard to finish the game. That problem can probably be chalked up to the fact that I might have been "rushing" (rushing in quotations because I wasn't really rushing it. I was just trying to make my way towards new biomes to spice up the gameplay. I never really rushed this, but like I said, I was actively looking for new biomes.), so please, if you play the game, take your time. Explore everything. It'll help your evolution and it'll maximize your enjoyment
That moment in Kingdom Come: Deliverance when you’re newer to the game and you spent 4+ hours messing around by levelling up archery with the contests, run around the woods picking 300 herbs while gaining vitality etc.. only to try and jump over a random bush that magically flings you up and backward 15 feet in the air causing you to bleed… then you realize you don’t have a single bandage, you’re in the middle of nowhere, and you haven’t saved the game a single time in all those hours… The fact that I didn’t uninstall instantly and powered through, eventually falling in love with so much about the game makes me feel like a true survivor.. oh and also a massive nerd but I’m cool with that🤣
How is Ark: Survival evolved not mentioned in this vid?!? This has all elements of surviving against the cold, heat, survive against dinosaurs and other players. You need to eat food, drink water, even heal yourself from illnesses! It's a sickk game for those wanting open world survival
Just because a game has a bunch of energy bars you have to constantly baby doesn't mean it's a realistic survival game. Ark isn't even close to realistic.
Absolutely love the realism that comes with Green Hell. Makes for an absolute brutal game if you want it to be. But I think my overall favorite survival game would have to be RimWorld. I'm normally a pretty vanilla person when it comes to gaming but RimWorld is one of the few games that got me invested in playing a game with mods. RimWorld is already a fun and engrossing game by itself...but with mods...just about ANYTHING is possible in a game that already gives you a fair amount to do already.
Awesome to see that Green Hell is getting bigger and bigger recognition. Truly gamer-satysfying title and what is even better, they constantly update it with new content. That is something that should be seen more often!
@DILLIGAF * lmao just because both games take place in the forest doesn't mean its a rip off and if it really was a rip off id say itss better than the forest
Wonderful game. Especially with the newer Story Mode added in. It's all based off of the Siege of Sarajevo during the Slav conflicts in the early/mid 90s. I would read about it; it was a very interesting (and VERY dark) conflict with so many complexities to it. This War of Mine puts your right into a situation where it's like you're one of those people/families that had to deal with something like that and not know if or when the end of the siege would occur. Terrifying on a very real level, but such a gorgeous game in its own way...
Kinda surprised DayZ isnt on this list. That game has a huge learning curve and being based on ARMA its got a lot of super realistic qualities especially for a zombie game
Been playing the Long Dark for about 5 or 6 years and never survived more than 21 in game days. My longest save I got real cocky I died by stepping in a puddle while the Northern Lights were going on and was electrocuted.......never even knew that mechanic was in the game
Nice to see Green Hell get some recognition, it’s my most played game on Steam. But yet again Subsistence gets completely ignored. The game is stunning, it has seasonal changes that do change how you have to play the game. It can be brutal but it is one of the most realistic looking survival games out there and more people should be checking it out.

The long dark is such an amazing survival experience and I’m glad to see it as number one on this list. If you haven’t played it yet, I definitely recommend giving it a shot. It may not be the most realistic on the list, but you truly do feel like you’re in the world and the slow-paced methodical feel of the game is one of a kind.
@DILLIGAF * looks and feel are the definition of an opinion. It's pretty simple. You can shit on it all you like, plenty of people enjoy it and like the art style. You don't have to like it, but understand that those are your opinions.
@DILLIGAF * This is literally an opinion. No one can say that its a fact that a game is shit. Thats like trying to say chocolate ice cream is the worst and thats a fact. How you feel about a game is your opinion, nothing more.
@DILLIGAF * some people may like that some people may not. Hence why it’s an opinion. I know some people who prefer the old school style games over your new high graphic games. And the ice cream example still stands. One person could think that chocolate ice cream is shit, that’s an opinion not a fact. You believing it’s a shit game is literally an opinion. It’s about preference. You may like this type of game or you may not, it’s your preference. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t make it a shit game, it makes it a game that you don’t like
Glad to see The Long Dark at number one.. it’s something I keep going back to time and time again.. it’s the only constant on my console.. it’s truly exceptional
Great list, but i missed Stranded Deep in it. It is a bit cluncky, but things like not having a map or the lack of water made it a challenge. It's a good game. The Long Dark is still the best imo, Hinterland Studios is awsome for expanding the main story for free, even though we had to wait a while for Wintermute.
So sad that you guys didn’t mention DayZ… Personnaly it is by far the best survival experience I’ve ever had. Immersive, tough, unforgiving in a massive open-world map! And the online RP server are just straight up next level immersion too. What more could we ask for? ✨

Nice to see Rimworld be talked about. I will say, if you want challenge use Randy Random or Cassandra Classic at the hardest difficulty and let the bullets fly. Gets even better with mods.
I always wished a big developer would make a modern version of UnReal World. It's such a satisfying game if you get a good save going. Trapping animals, building a winter cabin, getting food stores for the winter, exploring mountains and stuff. It's so much better than simplistic survival games with good, 3d graphics.
Played This War of Mine a couple of years back and it just hit me differently because I’ve lived a lot of those events back in my home country where a civil revolutionary war is happening. I couldn’t help myself from crying a lot of times it was just too painful to remember what we had to do to survive as civilians whom were caught in an active war zone and the game nailed these scenarios to the fullest. An absolutely great game I recommend it if you didn’t play it yet.
Wow, that’s rough, man. Thanks for sharing that. I grew up in absolute safety so I have no way of knowing what it’s like. Great game! It can be played on solo, but the best fun is with friends. You can tweak the difficulty to your liking and transform the map to your liking. Mechanics are also good, the fresh A20 and A20.1 is really a great step forward.
Like you said, most games depicts war through the eyes of a soldier. Showing it through the eyes of a civilian is a perfect setting for survival genre. I'm surprised there aren't more of them; I would definitely played a 3rd person one.
TLD is one of my favorite games, period. I've died so many times, and gotten so frustrated, but I keep coming back because the experience of existing in it's world is so strangely zen. The sounds, the music, the artstyle; all of it just lends to this feeling of innate calm that gets shattered the moment a timberwolf pack catches your scent, and I love it. Also, quick shout out to the Sunless games, which aren't necessarily advertised as survival games (well... Kinda) but the moment you leave port in your little steam ship, all bets are off. Food, fuel, repair, monsters, money, and so many other things are on your mind if you don't want your crew to go insane or start eating each other. Or both. Fantastic game as well.
Ancestors is a great game, I definitely recommend it but do note the following, you will get bored and probably won’t finish the game straight away but just take a break for however long then come back
The problem I had with Medieval Dynasty is that when you start building your settlement (about 5 to 10 hours into the game), the game turns into a micro-managing world builder putting the survival aspect of the game in the backseat. And some people might like that but just too much micro-managing for me.
This video got a like because of the long dark getting #1. The best survival game I have ever played. Incredibly immersive and takes so much of my time when I play it
I was fortunate enough to stumble onto The Long Dark when it first released and while I've not been very successful in it yet, it's an amazing game to play, and it's great seeing everything they've been able to accomplish with it.
Yea Good game that like how you can skip time to sit out a storm or just sleep if your OK for supplies.
By far one of my favorites as well. It's been nice for the new chapters too.
Ayy my uncle is a developer for that game

Man, the Long Dark is such a gem. The world is beautiful, melancholic, and cold - and the player is just scrabbling to keep warm, like a mouse in a snowcovered log.

Seems pretty damn cool!
Same. It was one of the best gaming experiences I ever had, even though the game is far from being perfect. I wish I could play it for the first time again.
Absolutely loved this game.
Where do you download it from
The Long Dark can be really unforgiving on higher difficulties.
Another couple of survival sims you've missed (deliberately or not) are:
In the Long Dark, can you climb trees? Set up a house in the trees.?
@@irvinnorris7041 no to both. In fact, verticality in TLD is problematic, because you can hurt yourself by falling from even smaller heights. This is explained as your character having a heavy backpack and several layers of clothes, but I'm not buying it. And tree houses are a bad idea, because of the wind. There's actually little point in having player-built shelter, because of all the pre-existing buildings you can inhabit.
You can build treehouses in Green Hell as per one of the latest updates. And you can climb palm trees in Stranded Deep, to pick coconuts.
Don’t forget ‘the survivalists’ maybe not realistic, but a survival game that’s fun. Basically, wash up on an island, and survive.
Dude, in The Long Dark you have to move around to gather limited supplies at first, but you failed to mention that your character LEARNS to make all his own supplies from the environment as you go…
You eventually craft and fix clothes with animal parts, cook the food you hunted, boil your herbal remedies, and make your own bow from sticks and bird feathers and whatnot…
It’s not just that you stay at a location until the location runs out of supplies and move on, you’re snowballing in knowledge the entire time until you’re a bonafide wild man.
Glad you covered it but it’s more in depth and has much more long-term playability than I feel was implied.
Isn't Long Dark about thriving instead of surviving? Been wanting to play it
@@soulknife20 I wouldn’t say you feel like you’re thriving, but you feel like you’re mastering nature…

The Forest is such a beautiful game. The single player is very challenging and surprisingly terrifying cause of the amount of enemies you can encounter at least twice a day. Good choice for making the long dark #1
This War of Mine: The Little Ones is one of my all time favorite games.

Love to see that The Long Dark made it to #1 on this list. I've been playing it for years. Great list, guys.
I reccommend just trying to explore the game without watching any tutorials or looking at any maps.
the fact DayZ isn’t in the list has hurt me indefinitely. It’s soooo hard and so realistic
I JUST comment that and I’m upset to because day z gave inspiration to like 3 of the game son the list easy

BlackRickGrimes is my tag we can only survive together
I will never forget a reviewer that complained about dying after leaving the game unpaused for over an hour
That moment in Kingdom Come: Deliverance when you’re newer to the game and you spent 4+ hours messing around by levelling up archery with the contests, run around the woods picking 300 herbs while gaining vitality etc.. only to try and jump over a random bush that magically flings you up and backward 15 feet in the air causing you to bleed… then you realize you don’t have a single bandage, you’re in the middle of nowhere, and you haven’t saved the game a single time in all those hours…
The fact that I didn’t uninstall instantly and powered through, eventually falling in love with so much about the game makes me feel like a true survivor.. oh and also a massive nerd but I’m cool with that🤣
How is Ark: Survival evolved not mentioned in this vid?!?

So glad that This War of Mine made it to the list. It's a truly one of a kind experience.

@DILLIGAF * That's an opinion my friend, everyone has different tastes.
Just because you don’t like it doesn’t make it a shit game, it makes it a game that you don’t like
Im glad that The Long Dark is getting the love itt deserves!
Glad to see The Long Dark at number one.. it’s something I keep going back to time and time again.. it’s the only constant on my console.. it’s truly exceptional
I have the same thing! Everything gets deleted after a while, but that game has been there since I bought my ps4
Same here. Amazing game!
Subnautica is survival, exploration, discovery, and horror all in one. A fine game I cannot recommend enough.
Nothing beats Project Zomboid. I've tried everything...nothing beats it. I'm 4k hours into it. It's a drug!
I mean as a person that plays stranded deep with my gf i think its not up to par with this list. It needs way more work.
they also missed subsistence.
And Raft
I’ve owned stranded deep since it came out that games a huge ass joke
exactly what I was thinking. Has it's issues but survival is genuinely harf
So sad that you guys didn’t mention DayZ… Personnaly it is by far the best survival experience I’ve ever had. Immersive, tough, unforgiving in a massive open-world map! And the online RP server are just straight up next level immersion too. What more could we ask for? ✨
1000% agree, unfortunately DayZ is a small title and not that many people know about it.
@@MagnanimousWaffle Are you being sarcastic? Who DOESN'T know DayZ?
@@MagnanimousWaffle small? it has more players on steam than some recent aaa games xD
I wish ancestors got more love. This is one of my favorite games of all time its sad to see it be so apparently divisive and go under the radar by so many
Nice to see Rimworld be talked about.
I kept hoping you'd have The Long Dark on here, and am so happy you made it number 1. I love that game so much.
Even still, This War of Mine hit me pretty hard (I’m tearing up as I’m writing this, so there you go...) I’m surprised someone with your experience would voluntarily play a game like that. And I hope over time you can find peace about your past experiences.
@@rickbiessman6084 thank you for you kind words.
What country?
@@blueninjanoname7338 Syria. It was in 2011 and 2012, after that I fled the country because the conflict was turning from a revolution against an oppressive regime to a civil war which I didn’t any part of as a civil rights activist.
@@faa742 Sorry about that, don't mean to be insensitive but what does being a civil rights activist have to do with fleeing a country in war?
Would you go back if things got better? Just curious.
Why doesn’t anyone ever talk about 7 days to die? I love that game! Such a fun survival game. Not the most realistic but more realistic than some of these games.
Yeah im actually mad it didn’t get even a honoreable mention.
My favorite moment I had in that game was when I accidentally ate glass
I'm with you Kelby. I rate 7 days above The Forrest and Green Hell every day of the week
lol I literally just commented this too...definitely my favorite survival crafting game
Great game! It can be played on solo, but the best fun is with friends. You can tweak the difficulty to your liking and transform the map to your liking. Mechanics are also good, the fresh A20 and A20.1 is really a great step forward.
I'm glad that you mentioned Frost Punk, one of the best survival games I've ever played.
Also, The Flame in the Flood is an incredible game that I highly recommend. It's a beautiful little story and challenging game.
For me, DayZ is still the most fun survival game 😊
I can't believe it's not on here its got alot of depth
Most fun, most realistic but also HARD AF, which is why not that many people like it.
@@teamwitt4302 It's not realistic enough.
As a console player I really appreciate the detail put into the description of this video.
Where can you find it i went on google play But i didnt find any of them😥
I found it 😄
This video got a like because of the long dark getting #1.
Cannot recommend it highly enough.
As for Don't Starve, I STILL haven't been able to make it to the month mark on that, that shit's no joke, especially with the friggin hot seasons
Yeah dont starve is really tough
For the fist time in my live a watch a game list video that is so good like that, thanks man
Ancestors The Humankind Odyssey continues to be one of my favorite games of all time!
Project Zomboid is one of the most impressive games I've ever played. Such a shame people won't be able to get past the graphics etc...
You should try the game it's emulating: Cataclysm Dark Days Ahead.
@@iluvj00 yh its CDDA that introduced me to PZ.
CDDA is better from a survival aspect tbf, however, PZ is basically a zombie apocalypse simulator (just with flash graphics).
I like CDDA, but love PZ
@@iluvj00 hardly emulating CDDA, two completely different games your talking about and PZ was released before CD.
@@probityreview1303 CDDA is a fork of Cataclysm which came out in 2010. PZ didn’t come out until 2011, as a tech demo. I’ve owned and played PZ since about 2012, and while I love the game, it’s extremely obvious PZ took a lot of inspiration from Cataclysm. Of course the games are very different, and in my personal opinion, both amazing, but CDDA is much much more in depth and hardcore. CDDA puts every game on this list to shame, including Unreal World which is one of the games that I believe everyone who thinks they want to make a survival game should play first.
Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead (because of RimWorld, that archaic style one, and Zomboid) and 7 Day to Die (Zomboid) along with Rust, Ark, and such weren't mentioned. Especially with 7 Days, you have to worry about bleeding, temperature, illness, and infection while also preparing for the regularly scheduled horde (I leave my setting on the titular 7th night, but it is editable).
I freakin love 7 days to Die, bought it on PS4 first then once they couldn't update console versions anymore (TellTale Games went bankrupt) I bought it on PC and it's like a whole different game, especially the stuff the modding community does with it.
Yay best part of the day! The daily Gameranx fix!
I've played so many survival games, where's stranded deep?. but the forest is the best.
I believe that one thing you missed out on Project Zomboid is that if you die - there is no respawning, you have to start ABSOLUTELY FRESH.
Medieval Dynasty would be my top choice
Was hoping to see Oxygen Not Included on this kind of a list to be honest :D
He did say realistic survival game and I think oxygen not included is kinda like a scifi survival game
@@johncarlocagaoan6252 actually the mechanics of the game are seriously realistic. The theming didn't seem to matter as much as the realism of the gameplay mechanics, take frostpunk and don't starve.
@@adracea you have a good point but its kinda like don't starve which didn't make it in the list and that's probably why it won't also make it into the list but it still deserves a mention
(Oh by the way the list is different with the mention)
@@adracea
Not really. ONI may seem realistic, but it follows its own laws of physics. There is no simulation of pressure for example. And heat management comes down to magically deleting heat. A lot of mechanics also depend on relying on the fact that only one substance can occupy a single tile.
For those who haven’t played the long dark it’s free on Xbox gamepass and is amazing they just added a new chapter to the game like falcon said there’s a campaign but there’s also just a straight survival mode that can go on for as long as u can survive definitely give it a try 5/5⭐️ for me
I have been playing 7 Days to Die religiously on console since about 2016 and recently upgraded to PC version within the last 18 months. That is my go to survival game.
I played most of them and my conclusion is that the project zomboid is an outstanding masterpiece of art.
