This is a great example of melodic sense and taste rarely seen! Excellent bass soloing, where using the six-string bass isn't just a solo in high register but a six-string BASS solo using the full range. Great!
Thanks for the great comment. I try to play music that I would like to hear. Rarely does this involve endless blowing at lightning fast speed or slapping my tits off. I want to be moved by music, not necessarily impressed by it. I try to make that the essence of my approach. I'm probably at risk of sounding like a total snob so I'll stop there! Thanks again mate.

Liam Tillyer Well, I see you're a great bass player with great skills and techniques, i think you can make every bass sing this good. Great gear with great user makes great art work 👍👍👍
George Maillard Jr. I'll take that mate! ;) Must have got a good piece of maple... check out John East preamps, that will do wonders for your tone also. Thanks for listening.
I have TRBJP2 with Bartolini electronic and sound amazing. I will never go back to Yamaha electronic. It made my bass 18V, passive/active with more freq in mid🔥
So... Here it is a year later, and I've found my way back to your video when looking up TRB 6 string basses... Can you tell me what the string spacing is at the bridge?? 18mm?? or (I think) 20mm like the JP2?? I'm going to pull the trigger on a 6-string bass... soon... (I hope) and the Yamaha's are definitely up there on my list... Thanks again! and your video sounded great the second time around too!! :)
Nice one Willy! So this bass is 17mm spacing at the bridge which is pretty tight for me. I've just acquired a JP2 from Yamaha which is 19mm, many seem to find this to wide, especially for playing fast or voicing chords, but I do like a challenge! Plus it's a bass that has always sounded amazing to my ears. Yamaha definitely make some of the best 6 strings in my humble opinion. Good luck and thanks for watching again! :)
Hi Liam, have just discovered your videos and am very inspired by your sound and touch. It's inspired me again to want to purchase one of these Yamaha TRB's! Thank you and look forward to hearing more stuff. P.S. Your other vids are cool too!
Simon Field Thanks Simon, flattered to be an inspiration, no better compliment than that. I think these basses are superb, I hope you find what you're looking for in one. :)
You my friend are my new hero....I have the same bass and wish the bass could play itself as good as you play it....if you don't mind can you share what customization you did to it as far as the new fretboard (wood etc) and the preamp, I know the pickups are stocked............Thx in advance
Wow thanks my man! :) Ok so the modifications are as follows: Birdseye Maple fingerboard and ramp. The preamp is a John East circuit, the one with the mid sweep and passive blend controls. Having tried a few different circuits, the East is by far the best and most versatile. Although it took a while to achieve the sound i wanted, this preamp can get that warm, round and thick tone, without sounding too harsh on the top. I found the treble on a lot of other circuits to be way to harsh, basically unusable. The pickups sound fine to me, so will probably stick with them. I also 'matted down' the body to get rid of the high gloss finish. Hope this helps mate. More vids on the way!
Liam Tillyer I've been browsing through different six string bass models with the same criteria - warm, round high that blends well with the deep mid/low. I had almost made up my mind for jp2, the pattitucci signature, until I saw this killer custom of yours. Do you mind if I ask how much it costed you? Thanks for sharing the info!
@@sungwonkim8870 Sorry I didn't reply, my notifications haven't been working for a long time. I ended up getting a JP2 also and absolutely love it. Hope you got one!
Liam, I'm truly amazed! Killer customising you did on this Monster from Yamaha (My favorite Basses are the TRBs, the first RBX John Myung Signature, BB Nathan East first series..) I can help but saying that seeing a TRB with a maple scale... and the sound it provides just shocked me, again, KILLER BASS! Would you tell us about the amplification? It seems that you're using a Power amp with a Demeter Rack.. I heard about this config before and they say it nails even the "proper" Ampheads! Hugs from Brazil, May the good Creator always bless u Sir!
Thanks my friend, glad you like the sound. I was trying to go for the JP2 type sound, I think they sound amazing. The amp setup was more accidental than anything else. My Ashdown MK500 head blew up on me so i bought a cheap but juicy power amp and paired it up with the Demeter preamp out of the studio. I find the Demeter stuff very natural sounding with really useable eq, probably the best in the business I reckon. So what you're hearing really is just the bass. I can't tell you how much I hate ampheads that colour and shape the sound just by plugging into them! Hope to visit your beautiful country one day soon! Peace
Liam Tillyer It ended up sounding extremely natural and balanced! Congrats. I have the same issue with Amps that give too much shape or colour to the sound... But there are some around that can provide a little a bit more balance and They don't change the original tone. Hope to hear and see more of this bass and of your beautiful improvisations my friend. Thank u for the compliments about my Country, you'll be welcomed! Peace
Hello Liam, here a very difficult but interesting question. SP2 preamp has crazy wide frequencies trim options. I would like to know cutoff frequencies on your setup for this bass. For BASS MID & TREBLE.. not easy probably. Ask to John East please. I will really appreciate
You're correct in that is has a pretty wide frequency sweep. I don't know the specs unfortunately. I'm sure if you asked John he'd be happy to tell you though. All the best.
Much more versatile. Lot's of mid control and the treble is less harsh than the original. You can really sculpt the sound. Hope that helps. Sorry for the delay!
I know in the description it says "demo" as in you are demonstrating the bass, but have you recorded the track as a whole??? I absolutely loved it!!!!!!! Well done!
I used a Demeter preamp in this vid paired with a power amp. To be honest it was a temporary setup as my other amp blew up! I personally like my amps clean and transparent, I like my bass to sound like my bass if that makes sense...
Very nice playing beautiful, this bass is heavy right ? More than 4 kilos for sure & from where you got this beautiful birds eye maple neck & fretboard is this a special order ?
Good day mate! Superb tone! By the way, I would like to know whether the upgraded preamp of your bass suits perfectly in the body cavity of the bass, I have the TRB1005J and planning to upgrade the preamps, yet the bass luthier told me it wouldnt be easy as other preamp won't fit in the bass.
