This was the favourite song of my lovely wife. She died last year because of cancer and I play it on her funeral. Since that day, everytime when I hear "Somebody", I can't stop crying and thinking about her. It will ever be the invisible bridge from me to her.
Love you my friend, and hope always remember that life, that love, in your deepest heart, my salute to you from Mexico, and yes, still listen Depeche Mode, since 25 years ago, and more....
And that is the truest power of music... what it tethers us to, bet it people or time... May she be resting in eternal peace and may you always carry her love and the life you had together fondly until the end of days and beyond.

The point is: Alan has always known how to play live to support the song and the singer, not to emphasize his own skills. Peter Gordeno will never understand.
It's because he's accompanying him on the piano. This is not a song with a drum beat behind it to rely on. If the vocalist does any rhythmical nuance the accompanist (Alan in this case) will have to reflect that in a split second. And they're quite far apart so you can't rely on peripheral vision, you have to look directly at the singer. Acoustic music making 101.
Will never happen because Alan Wilder reminds the rest of the group about a time when they were actually producing good stuff. These guys have been around for three decades now without doing anything better than Violator.

Damn this gives me chills every single time I see this video. I have always wondered and imagined what their songs would sound like over the years since he left if was still in the band. Alan was their sound and their creative leader in that regard. Their music changed when he became part of the band, and it changed when he left. I still love what DM put out since he left, but Alan was just hitting his stride with Violator and Devotion, so I can only imagine how amazing his input would of been on everything else DM has put out since. Here is to hoping he comes back before they all get too old. Aging definitely sucks when I think that they won't be putting new material sooner rather than later.

You are not the only one. I hope (like you) he will rejoin them again. Depeche Mode's last album was probably one of their worst selling albums to date. They need Alan more than Alan needs Depeche Mode. :) :) :)
Bill Brian Becker I think it's funny actually because if you think about it, both Depeche Mode and Alan really are now benefiting from the time when they were all in Depeche together. On the one hand, DM's really strong songs that are drawing the fans to their concerts are very much songs from '93 and prior, and on the other hand the people who are buying Recoil albums now are probably for the majority people who know Alan from Depeche Mode first, and are introduced to Recoil from there. So I would think both of them are basically still surfing that wave of when they were all together, equally. Yes, Alan is an excellent musician and DM's musical quality has never been the same since he left. But what makes DM was never solely the music. It's also very much Martin's songwritting and Dave's voice and performing skills. They lost some of their magic when Alan departed, but it's not like they've been thrown off a cliff either. As for Alan rejoining the band, as much as I would like to see it happen, I don't see how it could ever happen. Depeche have produced 5 albums as a trio now. They've probably gotten used to arguing just amoung the three of them.. and we know that if Alan came back, he would want the terms of their collaboration to go through some serious re-writing from what they were during the making of SOFAD (i.e. more liberties and more credit for him).. and they'd all just butt heads again. I think that they probably all do miss each other to a certain extent on a personal level, but realise that they couldn't make it work on a professionnal level..
I've been in italian live, Rome 2013,and I screamed many times 'I miss Alan, I want him back!!!! Do you hear me?! I want Alan Wilder back!'. There's something good in PTA and ULTRA, but they're as... half l.p that sound good. REAL and GREAT Dm will never come back, amen
Seen DM for the first time in Manchester recently and it was just amazing I have to say, but the biggest hits they played in the gig, Alan was in the band then, so that says a lot about DM today, still great, but with Alan on board too, they would be just unstoppable 👍

I think it's funny actually because if you think about it, both Depeche Mode and Alan really are now benefiting from the time when they were all in Depeche together.
Every time I watch this, it brings tears to my eyes.
Tears every single time.
Every.damn.time.
Just saw this❤❤❤❤ OMG my 2 faves
I've been in italian live, Rome 2013,and I screamed many times 'I miss Alan, I want him back!!!! Do you hear me?! I want Alan Wilder back!'. There's something good in PTA and ULTRA, but they're as... half l.p that sound good. REAL and GREAT Dm will never come back, amen
Seen DM for the first time in Manchester recently and it was just amazing I have to say, but the biggest hits they played in the gig, Alan was in the band then, so that says a lot about DM today, still great, but with Alan on board too, they would be just unstoppable 👍
