    My impression is that no one understand the REAL story today. I remember watching this match live on the TV. What I remember: Becker had just served one game of 4 aces. Then he served again, another ace. At this point, jokingly, Agassi went in the flower pot to show his "fear" of Becker's serve. Becker served a slow 1st serve, which went in, but Agassi did not make it in time and missed the return. The umpire wanted to give the point to Becker, but Becker insisted that they repeat the point because he indeed had some humour. So he served again --> out. Second serve --> big return by Agassi.

    • @javiermolacobos
      @javiermolacobos  หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      You have explained very well what happened except for Becker's attitude after the point won on the first serve. It was the referee who understood the joke and made Becker reconsider to repeat the point since he was going to sit down with the game won.
      Agassi saw that he left him in evidence and from there the final rest showing his pride.

      Becker absolutely got the joke. But his dead pan serious attitude often makes him seem incapable of humor. But remember Becker jokingly pretending to drop the Wimbeldon trophy? And have you ever seen Becker loose his temper? Nope. So he obviously has a keen and agreeable sense of humor. And yes I was old enough to see this match live.

      Agassi revealed a secret to Becker about him. When Becker would serve, he would stick his tongue out. Agassi caught on that wherever Becker's tongue pointed, his serve would follow. Tongue in left corner of mouth=Serve to AA Forehand Tongue in Right corner of mouth=Serve to AA Backhand. AA told him what he knew after Becker retired. He told AA that he would sit and home and tell his wife.... It's like he's reading my mind when I serve. AA was on another level

      Similar to Petr Cech knowing which side a penalty was shot. Frightening for the strikers. There's a story told by Mario Gomez, who played the 2012 Champions League final for Bayern against Chelsea. He took a penalty in the shoot-out. First thought was one side, then he changed his mind at the last moment, shot to the other side. Cech almost saved it.
      After the game, these two were selected for doping control, so they sat together waiting. Cech said, "What was that about the penalty? Initially you wanted to shoot to the other side." He could read body language like a book.

    • @StatistikinDD
      @StatistikinDD หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Both players confirmed the story. Becker used to say to his wife after the matches: "It is as if he was reading my mind!"

You can see even in this video his hairline is forming an M shape. He wore the hair long to hide it something he admitted. I think 1990 is where he started the wig thing aka "the headband era". Then 92, 93, 94 he started wearing a hat. Should have kept it clean cut or shaved it earlier it did nothing but hinder his performance. Basically the mullet matches without a headband is still his hair. Headbeand onwards its a wig.

Becker would defeat Agassi in the last US Open he took part in before retiring. I loved Agassi growing up and for years it looked like he might never win any majors...so glad he eventually achieved all those grand slam victories. As good as Boris Becker was (and he *was* good), it was extremely easy to destroy his concentration. @@FlabbyTitmuss agassi was a total flake… I probably know more about him than any fan… used to debunk the dozens and dozens of lies in his autobiography! In this case it’s the masters and Agassi didn’t even come to play seriously, gets swept aside pretty shamefully.
      In any case, Becker was highly variable… Match to match and even year to year, but overall he was above average. Foolish To say otherwise. 87,88,91,93 were marginal years where he’s admitted being distracted by off court issues. Certainly at his best he was mentally one of the strongest to ever play. Peers like stich, Tarango, McEnroe, noah, and many others were more temperamental. Brad Gilbert binging you down is no shame - it was Brad’s primary goal - as he proudly admits. Almost every top player felt the frustration at one time or another against him.
      The only players who really dealt with Brad extmrlet well were players like Mac, Wdberg, and Lendl - partly bc they had the games to destroy Brad. Their records against him are brutal.
