Can extreme cold cause this to happen? I’ve had this issue twice and both times it was -20 to -30C. First time, it fixed itself. This second time, it’s still stuck in park. Hasn’t worked for a day

@@Mr-cl2bh Same problem and code here with 2016 740i with zf8hp50. Sometimes it takes 2-3 tries, sometimes 15 minutes to come out of park. I replaced green parking solenoid, new pan/w filter and 7.5 liters of ZF8 fluid. Still same exact problem, not any worse, not any better. When engaging to D or R there's a rough engage at first, later is smooth. To bypass this first rough engage, I put in Neutral first and then into Drive, then its smooth. Only happens in colder weather, like 45 or below. Anyone figured it out yet? It seems like something is binding, or delayed release of parking pawl.
Also having this same exact issue in my 2013 BMW 335i F30 with a ZF 8HP45. I replaced the mechatronics (valve body + EGS), tested the solenoids, coded the new EGS to my car, replaced the pan, filter, fluid, etc... Still the car refuses to shift out of P, as any time I try D, R, or N it just goes right back to P, and I'm throwing that same 420641 code. Did you guys' fix this?

Hello Gary. I have zf8hp45x transmission. Due to some issues I changed the oil removed solenoids and installed everything back filled up oil and tried driving the car I felt like the clutch takes time to shift each gear. So I againg filled oil at 50degree temperature and there is a little bit of oil extra in the transmission, now the car won't go to park, only neutral. I left about half a liter of oil extra as it says in zf manual if you have oil cooler you have to pump half a liter extra.
@@GaryFerraro the reason that I did the work was whenever the gear oil reaches around 80 degree the reverse gear slips when we move reverse and apply brake. When it's cold no issues. Only park not engaging iasue
Hey Gary I have 2015 dodge charger p1b14 park by wire code it drives and shift fine sometimes it will shut the car off while I drive then come back on have to put it in neturel and then drive then works fine sometimes I'll have to restart the car when that happens
Hey Gary, I have a 2022 Ram TRX and recently ran into an issue with the P1B14 code. When I moved the shifter into drive, the light blinks, and the truck won’t engage - I had to restart the truck and quickly put it into gear to get things working. I took it to the dealership, they checked the fluids, and confirmed the P1B14 code. After having my truck for a few weeks - they replaced the Transmission Valve Body under warranty.... but after a recent road trip, the code has returned. Any recommendations on how to proceed? Hey Gary I’m getting these codes on my 2016 jeep grand Cherokee Srt these are the following codes : P1b14-00, and various transmission incorrect gear ratio error codes. The truck does go into reverse but that’s before the service shifter light starts to blink and transmission goes into a limp mode. Going forward the car slips in all gears until light flashes and the rpm just begin to rev and leave me stranded. One more thing to add is the parking break override in the center console is broken and won’t sit back into place

@@GaryFerraro no this is not occurring, if I begin to proceed and put the car in drive the car will begin to roll down the road in 1st and second gear then the slip begins if I try to shift it into 3rd gear it will automatically put me back into second. After all gears fail it goes into neutral and dash says service shifter untended parking position, then all lights on shifter blink until I pull over put it back into park, turn off the car and start back up but again same issue will happened the car drove fine when I first got it.
Hi Gary I have a question for you I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee went into limp mode my Autel scanner says P1 DAE -00 Position valve stuck. 6th trans limp ? Sometimes it's fine other times more in the mornings goes into limp mode most of the time .... Once a transmission warms up it seems to run a lot better. i've changed the Tran fluid and filter .. I don't know it's a short or just like says gear 6 solenoid valve .... I also have a small oil leak my oil cooler filter area. At a hot idol the oil pressure is at 23psi. ??? Anything direction help
That was very informative..I was wondering if you can help me as well..MY bmw f20 with the zf8 hp45 had transmission issues and entered failsafe mode..Once I stopped it wountget out of park..It was checked and two solenoids had issues due to low transmission fluid..however, even after the solenoids being replaced and fluid being refilled as well as adaptation reset..The transmission still wont get out of park..please help..no mechanic seems t o know how to fix it..there are not transmission faults as well..just a drivetrain error with the message engaging transmission position P

I have the same scenario (aftermarket pan fail) from your two videos on this topic for my 2018 Ram w/ 108k and have the correct parts on the way in 3 days. During my state of low pressure due to pan leak, I could not get the codes (P1B1300, P07E400 in trans module and P091900 in shift module) to clear for even a moment. Scanner would "fail to erase." The whole issue keeps my truck unable to shut off the ignition, kills the engine if I put the dial in Park more than a couple seconds, etc. Engine runs well in R N and D, but trans is no better at any temperature. Assuming I get it back together correctly in 3 days, should the faults to be able to be cleared, or should I plan a tow to a dealer or trans shop to clear/reset? Also, would you recommend getting the valve body tested in the interim period? Or best to leave it in place? Only drove it 1 block and back with the problem since it was really struggling. Any advice appreciated!
@@reillyp8115 It still refuses to go into park using the shifter. My workaround is to run a little cord from the park release on the side of the trans and I pull it the other direction at the same time I turn the shifter.

I put a Zip Kit on my 8HP70 valve body and all seemed to go well, until I was filling the trans fluid and when putting it in neutral , it was in Drive, wheels spinning and all. @@mercurymarauder2897 Thing that kills me is they are advertised with the OE part number and charge as it was an OE part. For instance my parts supplier for ZF5HP24 sells both OE and Aftermarket filters, The OE cost me about 55.00 and the after market is 4.72 . Have to know what to look for

Gary, you mentioned resetting adaptations. Would you do it after change of oil pan and flush oil change? I intend to overhaul mine, just not sure if I should or shouldnt reset? Would the adaptations be fine after reset just by driving, or would it be better to do the actual adaptation process? TIA
If your going to just do a service which is pan/filter and oil and the trans works ok, i would not reset. If you overhaul the trans, then i would because the clutch clearances may change with the new disc's

I was thinking of using transmission cleaning detergent, then changing the pan and doing flush change. Done it to 722.6, 722.9 and 6hp28 and everytime it has had an effect..especially the 6hp started working super smooth, alltho I did reset adaptations also. Not sure if the reset itself did have affect or not.

Even back in my dealer days, Chrysler told us not to open them or mess with fluid/pan unless there was a leak... I've still never done a service on one.. I bet if you made a dedicated how to service video, it would be a massive hit.
hello excellent teacher! I have this code with ram 1500 2013 the TCM literally burned, it was changed for a used TCM, the truck started but turning the knob to R activates the P1B14 code and flashes, any recommendations please

That could have been a broken bridge seal, which would cause a pressure loss

That has to sit in place, sometimes the car will not run until it is in place. Has the fluid level been checked?

i would have to research that code, could be a lazy valve or lazy solenoid

Very strange, it usually will not come out of park because of a code. What codes were stored?

I would install the OE pan, make sure it's full of fluid and see if the codes will clear. Noone is tooled up yet to test 8 speed valvebodies.

What could cause the gearbox to move into Park uncommanded when the car is stopped in D?

First thing to do is clear the code to see if it comes back
Would a FAULTY BATTERY cause this? This code didn’t pop up until my battery was actually disconnecting due to loose terminal connections
If the wrong voltage is going to trans very possible, if the battery is ok now, will the code clear?

Even back in my dealer days, Chrysler told us not to open them or mess with fluid/pan unless there was a leak... I've still never done a service on one.. I bet if you made a dedicated how to service video, it would be a massive hit.

hello excellent teacher! I have this code with ram 1500 2013 the TCM literally burned, it was changed for a used TCM, the truck started but turning the knob to R activates the P1B14 code and flashes, any recommendations please
Not so sure you could just install another TCM. Is the trans full of fluid? did you change the pan/filter?
