    Hello, I to was a Chrysler Corporation mechanic for over 30 years. I love watching your videos. You're very professional, clear on your instructions, a pleasure to watch. I must say thou I'm happy to be retired and not have to earn a living turning tools for a paycheck anymore. I do miss not rebuilding transmissions anymore, something I really enjoyed. Keep up the good work and have a good day.

    Pulled up to an intersection in my F550 and one of these trucks pulling a trailer lost its transmission. I pulled up in front of them while I was getting chains hooked up, they found this video to get it out of park. Dragged them into a parking lot and made sure they had things figured out on what to do. I'm sure that they were thankful for your video.

      I've had issues w my 21 'shutting off' in a carwash. I stay in the truck, with seatbelt buckled, and that auto start disabled. It is still iffy leaving the wash, trying to place it in neutral and drive out. How I ended up on this video...looking for a solution to this issue.

    Been considering buying a new Ram 3500 with the gas motor and the 8 speed transmission. That rotary knob shifter just seems really happy to me. It couldn't have been any more happy if they had anodized it pink, and put a rainbow logo on it.

    Thank you!! Just bought a 2014 Ram 1500 with the 8 speed/knob shifter. I always change my oil on ramps, then push the vehicle down in neutral to level, to fill it so I don't get a bogus reading. I thought I was going to have to start jacking it up, but this video gave me the answer. Great tip/secret hack. My truck doesn't have the owner's manual with it, so I would've never known about that.

It had the shifter on the column. I am about to purchase a used (new to me) 2017 Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Cab with the 8-speed transmission that has the dial selector. To be honest....how many times do we really shift an automatic......3 maybe 4 times each time we drive it maybe. I personally like something to put me hands on while I'm driving a car.....in a truck it makes no real difference to me personally. Its different....I will give you that lol

    Great vid. Anyone who has ever operated a tow truck would appreciate this. Retrieving a vehicle backed into a stall with insufficient side clearance to other parked vehicles as an example. The override allows picking the vehicle up from the front and moving it far enough to load the rear wheels on to dollies. All this accomplished without having to crawl under the vehicle to remove linkage in sub zero or rainy areas. Good on MoPar for enginerring this feature and good on you for sharing this on your channel. Eenjoy your Summer in Georgia.. Best to you and yours.

    1 - More electronic shit WE DON'T NEED
    2 - The gear selector dial is in the same place as the transfer case dial on the F-150. Excellent choice, Dodge. This Ford owner accidentally moved the dial to PARK while moving when attempting to disengage 4WD. The good news is the electronics are smart enough to prevent me from buggering the transmission.
    I do like the newer Dodges and the 8 speed tranny works well. However I'd much prefer the gear stick be a lever.

      I keep mistaking it for a radio knob lol. Just did a used car inspection on a Ford Fusion.....guess what type of shifter it had.....yeah, seems its making its way across brands. I still like a shifting in my hands.....doesnt feel right after all these years. Thanks for watching and for the comment. Make sure to subscribe.

Dodge hasn't made a truck since 2008 or so. Watch them continue to rise up. They will pass my beloved Fords in the next 10 years. Lol.

    On my 2019 the parking brake is electric. So how do I apply the parking brake to get to the override to put the vehicle in neutral? And maybe you can tell me how to override the damn parking break that wants to apply itself anytime I try to move the truck with the door open. Remember being able to open the door and back up? Call me old school but this nanny system is too much.

    Dodge: Builds fully electronic shifter. Puts in mechanical "shifter" anyway.
    So why not just stick with a standard shifter?
    Also, 8 speed?

    • @MotorCityMechanic
      @MotorCityMechanic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Trans is made by another company (ZF).....it had pretty much because the most common trans (by numbers) on the market. They designed it.....we have to make everything work with it which means shifter as well. Everything in the trans is electronically controlled so a shifter with cable would serve no purpose. Plus being electronic with the shifter knob....if someone does something stupid, it can place the truck in park to prevent them from getting hurt. It has alot of benefits and really no issues with it.....but no shifter handle is hard to get use to for sure even for me. I get in about 10-15 cars a day that has that set up and I dont even think about it. 8 speed......the more gears then more we can work on the fuel economy. Every little helps. Make sure to subscribe and enjoy the weekend.
