I have a question, Scotty. Would it make sense for mechanics to be buying up and restoring pre-computer age cars? If not, why not? The best vehicle I ever owned was a 1969 F250 Camper Special. I had everything on it rebuilt 3x. In hindsight, I should have kept doing that. No newer truck was ever as good as it was.

I laugh at the people at the public charging stations. They all looked bored waiting a half hour for it to be charged.
I was at a Flying J, had only 4 super chargers all in use. 2 more pulled in. Pity they have to wait for an open charger, then wait to charge! Meanwhile, i will be 100 miles down the road...
I live in Baltimore Maryland. Royal Farms is a gas station that has electric car chargers. The line for the charger is 30 minutes if your lucky. Mostly teslas and mustangs waiting. From what Ive read you dont want to wait below 30 percent and stop around 70 percent for best battery life. Electric owners tell me if Im correct?

You're partially right.
The other side of the story is that some people are making fortunes by pushing this crap. One politician invests in one element that goes into the battery, another has stock n the company that supplies the chargers or connectors etc...
...and the rest of us just get screwed.
It doesn't stop at manufacturing of automotive parts. There is also a lot of corruption between politicians and other job sectors such as medicine and food.

Scotty I have to make a comment. The volt is a hybrid if your battery is low just go to the gas station and fill up.

This has been going on forever. Even a 12 year old diesel car has about a dozen modules. There's even a module in each door.
Well my 1980 Buick V6 probably doesn't have any modules because I still haven't replaced them LOL. I'd never own ANYTHING made after 1985. It's all trouble. 🎄🧑🎄⛄

My parents showed up with a Hyundai Tucson rental tonight and there were no switches! Everything was a touch button! It looked cool but very confusing. I heard my dad trying to figure out how to shift it in gear. He turned the parking brake on and off 3 times. Can't imagine trying to repair it.
You have to know what your doing electricly. Your house runs 220 volts for some appliances. Some cars run over 409 volts a/c..Thats enough to kill both of us and more. Id be afraid to try any type of repair. Id even be nervous about a parking spot. If the battery overheats it could start an electrical fire and burn anything near it.

Yes. I had a Hyundai rental car and there were buttons everywhere. Who rhe heck designed those piles of garbage?
We are looking to replace my wife's totaled 2008 Honda. Only a few companies have buttons left. And they talk about distracted driving. At one time you could reach over with eyes still on the road and turn up/down the radio, heat/ac and such. I know some are on the steering wheel, but the tactile feel of buttons is so much better than an iPad on 4 wheels.
He wont have to repair anything,the car will just die before it hits 100,000 miles

Scotty, my son has a 2012 Volt and he still uses it today. It has over 150k miles. Some repairs on the way but the battery and engine is solid to this day.

Meanwhile, Honda is recalling hundreds of thousands of vehicles with faulty fuel pumps. Guess what....the major auto companies use most of the same suppliers, and guess what....defective runs of parts are common. Thus millions of recalls.

@Jay2776 There certainly were Ford Econoline vans with straight sixes. Years ago, I drove Air Force crew vans with the 300 CID straight 6. They were nearly indestructible.
For over a decade I spent most weekends in the back of my pickup. Simple build. Slept 2 and room for gear. Basic light, heat, fan, etc. Build was fairly cheap. Inside cost less than the cap. Goes through the drive through. No issues parking. And stealth / free camping was common. On the other hand, toilet facilities were, um, minimal.
i'll get a crate engine. They used to have 460's, i'd take it out and put a 300 cid. its a "camper".@Jay2776
yup. Truck with a cap for years. I just want to set up a card table, and hang out inside without bumping muh head. I'm 6', so a cap is great for sleeping, but the van can be comfortable. I have a flat bed traler as well, so, me and my dog will be "livin' large" at the campground.@@annnonomys3132

I think that they person meant Bolt, not Volt. The Volt uses gasoline when electric range is used up, so would not have that range issue.
The picture was of a Volt, also the bolt has longer range than 100 miles from what i remember.
@@ActivityPhotoNot in Northern Minnesota when it’s -30F, they don’t! Those EVs are SO impractical here! Besides having to generate the heat to keep us warm (no gas engine to generate the heat), you also have to have the fan motors blowing at high speed. And I haven’t mentioned air conditioning or window defrosting.

If you want your engine to last for hundreds of thousands of miles, I’m still changing mine every 3,000. I realize synthetic can go further in miles, but I find the oil already dirty at 3K. 282,000 and still going well.
OIL & FILTER ARE so cheap in comparison to other maintenance .
I don’t ever recall gasoline cars getting any kind of tax incentive to buy them even when cars were brand new. Why is it that EVs are getting tax incentives?

My father leased a Chevy volt. It was great. It was a range extender. When battery ran out the range extender kicked in kept going. Great car no issues.

the Mercedes Clk in 2.00 that you show, as an example, I own that car, it has 550.000 km on it. and its a bullet proof car, engine still runs like knew. not any single electronic problem. that's why I still don't want to change it. although i love your content and your videos.... and i think you are doing a great job to open the eyes of people.

Some of those motorhomes cost as much as a house, and cost a large amount per day to park.
Here in the Uk EV sales are struggling to get any real momentum, a lot of people here are worried about range, however I would imagine in the USA the average journeys are a lot higher, most of our Towns are quite close together
Chevy Volts are plugin hybrids. They drive on electricity until the battery runs out, then switch to a gas generator. The later model Volts have 420 miles of total range (53 electric + 367 gas). If the car isn't able to drive 100 miles, there's some major issue with it. Chevy Bolts (with a "B") are fully electric, so many the emailer is confused about what car they own.
Off topic but I drive a 14 YO Prius and in SC I have to pay a fee! Nothing for cleaner air and my insurance is higher! I'm a senior citizen that drives around 5G a year and have to pay a fee in SC! Illegals get free houses and food and cell phones but in SC I have to pay a fee to save a few bucks on gas...great state!
My wife has been driving Volt since 2015 and have never had a problem. The cars were designed for those who were worried about the limited range of full EVs. On averages she only fills the tank about one every three months. The value of a hybrid is you can run on both the gas or electric with makes long drive possible.
NY cab drivers are getting 500,000 miles on the hybrid Prius on original battery.
I bought a Rav 4 plugin because of the 25 year history on Toyota hybrids.
I have more and more respect for this man with each video I watch of his.
Chevy Volt? did they mean Bolt?, the Volt is a plug in hybrid so it could run on its gas engine if it needed too.

Scotty, what do you think about the older Nissan Pathfinder. I have a chance to buy an 02 rwd with the vq35 motor. It does have 200k already but it is in great condition and runs like a clock still. Not rusted or major wrecks in the past.

"Group Think". The Challenger disaster happened because of it. 29 engineers said it's okay to launch at 40F. 1 engineer said "No! It's not okay to launch below 50F, as the "O" rings shrink to much." The 29 "convinced" the one hold-out that it was okay to launch. And how did that work out? Read the story about it. Very sad.
Buying a Chevy, electric or gas, is a problem, period.

I’m a truck driver and have been picking up volt batteries at dealers for over 2 years
I only change the oil when my car or truck tells me to. So far no problems. "Change oil" indicator appears and I take it in to get changed the following weekend.
