Fix Indesit IDL40 Dishwasher Flashing Lights 1 and 3

  • If Lights 1 and 3 of an Indesit dishwasher flash fairly rapidly after only a few mins of running, then you have a circulation pump problem or pressure switch issue (or something else perhaps). Usually it will fill with water, fail and empty or try to start circulate water and fail and empty.
Both are really simple to resolve and involve virtually no skill.
Easiest is to first check the circulation pump issue. Check the filter at the bottom of the washer (basket thing shown in video) for grease or debris. Also take both rotator arms off. Put them under a tap to see water runs free through them. Also should be able to see light through all the holes if held up to strong daylight and the feeder tubes.
If the machine is out, look at the semi-transparent tube running up the back of the washer when running, does water flow?
If these are all clear, check how much water is left in the sump (big hole the water runs into) in the base of the machine after attempting a run. It should only just cover the bottom of the hole. Perhaps fingernail depth (1cm). If there is more than this amount of water you may have a blockage so follow the video to clear it, on the other hand follow the video anyway, it probably needs a clean.
Check the outlet pipe out of the machine that goes into the house drains, check it is clear of grease, try putting it lower or higher, sometimes the drainage can fail when the machine gets clogged with grease or the drain pipe has moved due to vibrations of the machine.
Instructions to clear the machine of blockage
Note: I am just a machine owner, I know not if this will damage the machine, but my thought was its broken anyhow so gave it a whirl and it worked a treat.
    1. Take out the baskets on wheels that hold the plates
    2. Remove the two filter parts in the base of the machine (fine mesh and cylinder basket)
    3. Scrub the basket and fine filter with detergent to remove grease and debris.
    4. Wear rubber gloves and protect your eyes from splashes then pour lots of soda crystals over the machine base, then pour a kettle of almost boiling water into the machine over the crystals.
    5. Use a large plunger over the two holes in the base of the sump to plunger out any bits. (beware of the boiling water when doing this see video)
    6. LEAVE for half an hour or longer then repeat. On mine, lots of "bits" came out during the plundering, not shown in video as it had already been done previously.
    7. LEAVE again, scoop out any large bits floating around so they don't block it again.
    8. Put filters back in together with the racks and run on a full hot wash with machine empty. The soda water should clear out the tubes inside...
    Hopefully problem fixed.
The other issue could be a faulty pressure switch. See the next video for that issue, but this video here is less invasive and virtually free to try first.

Massive thanks to you. After wasting several days and initially dismissing your solution as too simple to be true, today I returned to it and voila, it worked. You saved me an unnecessary spend on a new dishwasher and also from wasting a reasonable fine dishwasher.

Thank goodness for TH-cam and people that put these videos on. After months of having this problem on and off, for the last 24 hours this issue wouldn’t go at all. So after finding this video I ordered a £5 plunger on Amazon with next day delivery (thank you prime) and today I’ve got a working dishwasher again! Saved me a repair call or a new dishwasher (it is quite old and thought it might have given up) but now it’s working again for a grand total of £5 and a boiled kettle!

Might seem obvious to others but it just solved my issue. Had someone out recently who pulled out our dishwasher and when they put it back the clean water pipe got kinked and stopped drawing through water causing it to give lights 1 and 3 error. When I pulled the dishwasher out and no kinks ran fine so just taped pipe the wall to remove any risk of kinks and now runs perfectly.

I had this issue, filter had minimal debris. I had to remove the right side panel to reveal the pressure switch. Remove the pressure switch and blow the pipe. For good measure I flushed water using a hose pipe back through the pipe and into the main wash chamber. It dislodged some build gunk build up which was hidden in the lip of the sump. Once removed I reconnected the pipe to the pressure switch and the machine runs perfectly. The sludge/gunk was blocking the pressure pipe opening in the sump, this meant that the pressure switch was unable to detect the pressure difference once the machine started filling causing the fault code. 10 min job max and saves £££££

Thanks for this. We've tried a few things to fix a Currys Essentials CDW60W10 dishwasher - but using Wilko soda crystals and a fair bit of plunging seems to have fixed things. With the CDW6010 it was the 3rd "rinse" light flashing and beeping Thought it might be something more complicated with pipes or drains, but fingers crossed this is it :)

Thanks - this is great! I have taken mine apart as per your video, there is quite a bit of food and a tiny bit of plastic (from a clothes tag!) stuck between the grey inner (attached to the silver mesh) and the white hard plastic filters. Are these two supposed to come apart as the instructions suggest they do, but I cannot for the life of me get them apart? There are two little notches from the grey inner poking out through the white outer and I can't out how to pinch them in to get the two filters apart. Thank you so much.

    • @jamesgrimwood1285
      @jamesgrimwood1285 10 ปีที่แล้ว

The whole filter contraption does come apart - the metal screen comes off from the white basket with the handle, and the outer cage bit comes off too. It seems to come off with an amount of twisting and pulling and poking at the plastic tabs.

Pull it out and tip it on its side, expect water to flow out (mop handy). The bottom of the washer is a big tray that catches any leaks to prevent flooding the flat below (if you lived in a flat that is). There is a switch attached to a polystyrene block that floats should the tray fill with water. I think what you are seeing is that switch being activated.
