How do I unblock my dishwasher pump?

Thank you for the great tip on how to remove the pump cover with the back end of the spoon. (I was not sure how that would come out, if at all, and probably would have broken the little part.’ Unfortunately there was no apparent piece or something in the pump or the filter. The pump would run (I lift up the float valve in the rear of the dishwasher). Apparently the discharge hose was blocked, or at least partially blocked, as the level would go down, but so slowly so as to trigger Code 24. I really did not want to pull out the dishwasher and hose, since it runs through a couple of cupboards to the sink. So I brought an airline from my portable compressor, disconnected the hose at the P trap by the sink. Removed the filter in the dishwasher and blew air through the hose to the dishwasher. This worked like a charm. It dislodged the accumulated macerated material in the line. I put a couple of bowls of water in the dishwasher, started the pump by lifting the float and pumped the water, debris and all, into a pail I had handy. Bingo! Problem fixed. Reassembled and cleaned up. Works great again.

Omg I have to reread everything you wrote. I’m literally crying as I’ve watched and read everything. I HABE a family of 9 and it’s not working. It’s making like water noises but nothing is going on and the lights on the top are not working only saying one thing and I can’t think of it now.

I love the incredibly technical tools used here, sponge and spoon! We watched other videos before finding this one and were galvanised to start unscrewing things, which necessitated a special trip (during lockdown!) to collect special dishwasher screwdriver bits because they don't use normal screws like everything else - but when we finally did that, we scratched our heads because the screws didn't actually appear to be DOING anything and there was no panel to remove! So we wondered how on earth to access stuff. Video watched, small piece of porcelain removed from impeller cavity, but possibly there's still more in there (that is an incredibly difficult place to access!) as it's still blocked, or maybe the impeller is damaged... Will try again tomorrow!

Hope you got it fixed. You might have some luck if you get under the dishwasher and remove the hose, you can get at the other side of the impeller at the bottom. Make sure to have something to catch the water.

I needed a pair of small needle nose pliers to retrieve the piece of glass out. First fix it video on any appliance I ever watched that addressed the exact problem I was having and saved me a bundle on a repair call!!! I knew it had to do with the pump, pulled out the bottom panel & filter earlier, hard reset it and still wouldn't run. THANK YOU! Fixed in 5!!

Thank you so much for this video! I couldn't find my manual, so I had to resort to Google and TH-cam. It came down to a small piece of china that somehow made it through the filter down into that itty bitty space in the pump and was preventing that tiny wheel from turning. Such a relief I don't have to pay hundreds of dollars to fix it.

I went through checking pump and hoses of the dishwasher only to realize the problem was at the connection to the drain pipe under the sink. That narrow connection had some gunk in it! Dishwasher was fine. 1) Pull up on the float inside the dishwasher, if the pump starts spinning and you see water moving, it's probably fine. 2) disconnect drain hose from drain pipe and place end into a bucket. 3) Pull up float again and see if the dishwasher drains. 4) if all is well with the dishwasher, check your drain pipe.

Having a non functional dish machine during the #lockdown was scary with four people in the house. Dishwasher wouldn't drain and everything seemed fine. I found this video pried the impeller cover off and sure enough there was a long skinny piece of hard plastic that had been blocking it.
Thank you for making this video it saved me probably several family arguments about the dishes.

I'm sorry I don't mean to be a douche...but "scary"?! Bahhaha I grew up in a house with no dishwasher for 18 yrs of my life before I went off the college. Even then I didn't have one until I bought an expensive Bosch and had it installed in the first house I bought when I was 34! Smdh lol I think that EVERYONE should have to experience washing dishes by hand at some point in their lives...it builds character, humility, and seriously it isn't THAT bad lol. Some people literally do it as a type of mental therapy...just saying. More importantly having lived with my priveledge assed husband for almost 8 yrs, that never had to do so...in his life...I see the importance of it even more.
I literally had to hide the extra 30 or so crappy ass forks that he bought in order to continue to have them in between dishwasher cycles...unbelievable.
Glad you got yours figured out/fixed...but 🤷🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

My 2004 Bosch doesn't have the pump cover shown in the video. Just a hole when you take the filter out.
Anyway - BIG TIP - I used my wet and dry vacuum to empty the water, then had a good suck out of the filter and pump housing then, just in case the pipework was greased up, I poured some drain cleaner in with some water and gave it an immediate wash through on the rinse programme with newly cleaned filters in place. PROBLEM SOLVED! I then gave the empty machine a hot wash with a dishwasher tab. When I emptied the wet and dry tank I found a fruit pip, a little bit of foil and quite a lot of fine grit.

    Simple but VITAL preventative action:
Remove all bits of debris before loading your dishes.
Bosch makes very quiet dishwashers that require a quieter and therefore less powerful waste grinder. In order to make it thru the pump, any waste particles must be smaller than what you may have gotten used to with your previous machine. It's a simple trade-off: a little extra attention from consumers for a SUPER quiet machine.
This video instruction is clear and informative, and our machine now runs perfectly again!
Thanks for another great product, Bosch.

Great instructions. I was surprised at the gunk on the web screen cover. I used liquid detergent and held under hot water for a good rinse, it got rid of the buildup.
We should be hugely disappointed at these machines. Can see them out for special pickup through the neighborhood. What is going on?
Seems that since LED display, the machines are not lasting. We had portable dishwashers 12 and 15 years before a built in. It's heartbreaking and expensive, we deserve better. It's not high tech, dishwashers have been around for 60+ years.
Pop off the stainless steel front before discard. Use as a back splash, or countertop. Salvage something at least.

Help please!!! I tried this but afterwards my dishwasher does not turn on at all. I triple checked that I put everything back exactly the way it should be. I heard the click but still nothing. It is as if the dishwasher is dead.

Hi, if your appliance has no power and all the checks have been completed as advised in the user manual, an engineer visit would be required.

Hi, thank you for your message. I am sorry to hear you're having difficulties with the wash. If the filters and pump have been checked and cleaned, we would recommend cleaning the spray arms and also putting through a dishwasher cleaner and descaler.
      Thanks, James.

Had a Whirlpool Dishwasher and it caught fire. Read up on it and apparently this was a thing that Whirlpool knew about and did not do a recall until several years later and several houses had burned down. My Bosch has raining issue on occasion but I can fix it. Can't fix fire.

The call out charge I didnt have to pay is money saved in my pocket.
I am however, the victim of voodoo economics in these situations. Can you make another video about how to stop herself multiplying the above with another (-1) ?
