- Sky News host Rita Panahi says it’s “good news” that the global coal-fired power capacity grew by two per cent.
Ms Panahi joined geologist Ian Plimer to discuss the increase in coal being used globally despite Australia planning on shutting down more coal-fired power stations.
“Coal-fired power capacity grew by two per cent last year across the globe.
“That’s the highest annual increase since 2016 as China and India open more and more plants as we rush to shut down our own sources of cheap, reliable energy.
“Australia’s rushed to shut down coal plants and transition to renewables, which we are told is the cheapest form of energy, is actually seeing power prices soar domestically.”
Tell that muppet Bowen !!!
Hate him with a passion everything he has ever touched has turned to💩💩💩
Bowen is an incorrigible narcissist, as are Albo, Plibersek, Gallagher and Wong. We simply need to stop voting these losers in. Or else march on Canberra with enough people to evict them now, Boris Yeltsin style.
You need coal to make coke.
You need coke to make steel.
It's also used to make polysilicon wafers used in a host of electric/electronic devices including solar panels so walking away from it is ridiculous.
@awc900 Used in the copper an lead smelting process.
Coking coal is different from thermal coal. You knew that right?
@David_Beames Yep ,year's working in smelters an coal-fired power stations.
@@briananderson7285I think you are lying.
Smelters and power stations are 2 vastly different workplaces. Which "smelters" and "power stations" do you claim to have worked in and what positions did you work in all those smelters and power stations?. Don't slink away now sweetie. You won't answer though, will you. :)
Except in Australia where we pay nearly three times for renewables
True
Does Bowen know ? How can he claim Australia will be a solar, wind superpower ? What an insult to public
Australia leading the world once more: back into the stone age...
hahahahaha! That's too funny!
@@martinscrapp7166 whats so funny
@@martinscrapp7166 yeah what’s funny
It will be the stone age if we don't go back to coal, and gas fired power stations.
Oh look, China and India get cheap energy while Australia gets expensive energy and a stuffed economy. Thanks ALP
Has any one tried turning Australia off then on again?
You mean like reset 2030?
Didn't Morison turn Australia off with his 5 secret Ministries? Or Rudd with his Labor machine politics. It's just a joke. Don't get mad. :)
yep they did that with the jab. short memory must have a.........
😂😂🤣
Turning off the lefties would be a good start to reseting our country.
There IS NO CLIMATE CRISIS!
how can anyone believe climate change is real? It's just weather. Hot in summer.
How stupid can you be?
Wasn't even that hot, mostly just a normal summer.
Why doesn't the gas and electric companies just go and disconnect the likes of Bowen and co
Oh, that would be lovely.
Instead of solar panels we should be making DRONES
They already have you, one of many. :)
Your a goddam genius private Gump 👍
This is exactly what we were talking about today. Agree with you. Deadly drones that could fly as far as Israel to Tehran.
Germany alone did open new coal powered power station and reactivated old ones and building new 3 coal mines
now they are reducing coal use, catch up
@@rattusfinkus 3 new coal mines is reducing use is it your funny
@@aaronmoffatt4771 tell me how much coal was used last year compared to the year before
@@rattusfinkus if you think China India and Indonesia care about burning coal your fooling yourself.climate hoax all the ice melted yet polar bears all dead .as for Germany there climate plans all failed now coal gas .giong for a drive in the v8
What a shame that we're not part of that growth.
currently no wind in sth aust so theyre running diesel generators jacking up diesel prices at the pump
Send us broke … exactly.
It’s about getting your name in lights.
I was watching this Happen in Europe and UK with Prices going into the Thousands for Households. People getting their Gas and Power shut Off because they can't pay their bills and were FREEZING to Death. I couldn't believe that Labor and Greens went down the same road.
Indeed - Australia is headed down the path of certain doom.
we sell coal at an increase in volumes of 4% pa. The developing world is overbreeding and needs coal. The washington post is good for a laugh, I would read about project EPICA and get some facts on historical temperatures. The Hebrew University of Jourusulim science dept is not a bad place to start.
Brisbane use to be hit by cyclones or ex-tropical cylones every 8 years. 1940s, 1950s, 1960s, 1974 Cyclone Wanda and significant floods, 1985 then NOTHING..........
Are the oceans getting cooler?
No, the oceans are hotter than ever
Was Antarctica always a desert of snow and ice? Or did the climate change 1000's of years beforehand?
@@martinscrapp7166 yes the climate has varied in the past usually over thousands of years though. And though it has varied before that doesn't mean humans can't change the climate drastically to the point where ecosystems we rely upon collapse.
Get those Nuclear Power Plants built NOW!
Green madness🤢🤮
I totally understand using coal to make products. That's industry ,that's the way it is right now. 10 years ago I invested $1, 800 in a small solar system for my cabin which I live in off grid in Southern Colorado. It can run a well for water so I don't have a water bill it runs my lights in my cabin my small refrigerator and recharges anything that I need like my phone or my wi-fi speaker. it's a simple life, but I haven't had a utility or water bill in the past 10 years. And if you want to say the initial cost was high go ahead and divide $1, 800 by 120 months and tell me my bill is more expensive than yours. Not to mention I can use that extra money that I save each month towards anything that I want to buy, the freedom is highly enjoyable. And if I had a few more panels and a larger inverter I could charge an electric car for free .
Well said Ian - China and India must be chuckling !
No green policies will send us broke 😢😮
It is not just the cost of labour but is dominated by the cost of establishing a factory of any kind. Delays by bureaucrats, red tape , green tape and black tape ensure we will never build a factory regardless of the cost of labour to operate it.
Coal power plants are the safest, cheapest and greenest form of energy. Much safer than nuclear and they help green the planet since co2 is absorbed by all trees and plants for growth through photosynthesis.
are you fcuk’n nuts? The greatest form of energy, really?? I think hydro power might pip you on that one but hey, why not burn whatever we want, it’ll never run out.
they might be the cheapest but surely not the safest or greenes. The natural gas are those safe and green. The coal leaves behind a lot of ash which is not very easy to deal with and the burners need a lot of filters to catch the particles in the smoke. The natural gas plants have no such problems.
Except we have cut and are continuing to cut down those tress. Do you know much about the deforestation of the Amazon?
Gas is Cheaper, both Gas and Nuclear are safer.
@@David_Beames I recall back in the late 1980s that we were told that an area the size of Belgium was being cut down every year in the Amazon. Who would have thought, at that rate by now the amazon should have disappeared. The earth is now greener than ever thanks in part to co2 the gas of life. If you want a greener planet then keep using coal.
I think all EV charging stations should be required to be solar powered. See how fast of a charge they get on a daily basis in order to meet their needs, and keep the "clean vehicles" off the grid altogether.
I wouldn't mind having solar panels if I had enough land, but with fossil fuel backups . Like diesel generators . And I would never buy my solar panels from China only from Australia .
The only thing CO is not growing is Chris Bowens brain😡
Clearing the lanscape for bloody windmills and panels is yet somehow ok..
And how much of that extra coal is the WORST type ( brown coal / lignite) ,,,, hmmmm
Casanova Bowen , is taking us forward to the Stone Age
🙃
Well said
No idea Bowen
The more CO2 you make, the greener Australia will get! It all depends on how green you want to make it? Anyone that tells you they are trying to reduce CO2, is trying to swindle you! There is no GHE, so there are no GHGs and there is absolutely No reason to want to reduce them and every reason to want to produce as much as possible.
The ecosystem is very finely tuned and very responsive. The ecosystem ramps up just about as fast as we can produce CO2, which is why in spite of all our best efforts and constant increase in CO2 production, over hundreds of years, it still takes hundreds of years to raise the atmospheric CO2 level, an infinitesimal amount of only about 150 ppm. You have to have very refined and highly tune scientific instruments, with very accurate and very precise readings to even be able to tell there is a difference. Even a dog can't detect odors at 150 ppm. It is an infinitesimal and completely irrelevant and inconsequential. Except to plants that respond instantly to CO2 as soon as the Sun shines and photosynthesis can start. The commercial greenhouse guys know when to run their fossil fueled CO2 generators to get maximum performance and maximum growth from their plants.
IC automobiles and coal fired electrical generation are two of the best possible uses of the technology and the resource and should not be vilified in any way. They are after all, the most beneficial both to plant and animal life and the most responsible use of the resource. Leaving fossil fuels in the ground, when the ecosystem is starving and dying from a lack of CO2, is just plain irresponsible. It's like standing back and letting a child suffocate for lack of Oxygen. If the ecosystem dies, we all die, because it is the plants that give us the air we breathe, so doesn't it make common sense to feed the thing that keeps us alive?
Coal is not cheaper than Natural Gas here in America, coal is so much more labor intensive than natural gas. Natural gas is pumped and requires almost no labor, and is piped to the power plants, while coal has to be mined, moved by trains to the power plant, and is less efficient when burned.
Wow! I'd forgotten that Faux News wasn't restricted to the US ..

Was it hot all over the world or in certain areas? ?

How goods that everyone has cheap power but us
We’ve got coal haven’t we?
it’s taken millions of years to create, what do we do when the coal and gas run out. You won’t need to worry but your kids and their kids might.

Great, that means not only more greening of the Earth, but a deacrease in adject poverty of its people..
LOL, increase your medication. Gold.
Plimer needs to be appointed Governor-General of Australia and sack Albonazi, the dystopian Woke Fascist.
For those with eyes listen
So here’s the ridiculous and sadly funny, but we criticise China and India we want to be renewable so we build renewable plants using materials from the countries we criticise manufactured from coal powered economy😂

what rubbish from sky liars
Ian Pilmer rejects the scientific consensus on climate change. He knows better than the vast majority of climate scientists in the world. He's a geologist. :)
He has worked for mining companies for many years.
He is currently the non-executive deputy chairman of KEFI Minerals since 2006, independent non-executive director of Ivanhoe Australia Limited since 2007, chairman of TNT Mines Limited since 2010, non-executive director of Niuminco Group Limited (formerly DSF International Holdings Limited) since 2011, non-executive director of Silver City Minerals Limited since 2011, director of CBH Resources Limited from 1998 to 2010, former non-executive director of Angel Mining plc from 2003 to 2005, former director of Kimberley Metals Limited from 2008 to 2009, former director of KBL Mining Limited from 2008 to 2009 and former director of Ormil Energy Limited from 2010 to 2011.
And (you forgot to mention) everything he said in this interview is TRUE!
But hes still right and we are waking up to that.
Consensus is invoked only in situations where the science is not solid enough.
So what, the so called climate scientists, especially IPCC are so politically motivated and funded by institutes that have an interest that its become convoluted beyond reason. One things for sure, we are spiralling toward a two tier world, Chinese manufacturing and western consumers.
@@OzFPVflyer Why do think he is right? Can you write it in a paragraph or is that beyond you fake name.
Sorry Rita. But our prices have gone bonkers under coal power. And it isn't going to ever get better as finite coal resources dwindled
You would think Ian Plimer could lay off the bottle for his scheduled interviews.
But why would he when he is employed by Britain petroleum to spin nonsense?
Exactly. Same with EVs. Oil prices have gone up heaps because everyone is buying EVs.
Electricity prices were the cheapest in the world before privatisation.
DO YOU KNOW WHY ELECTRICITY PRICES IN AUSTRALIA HAS GONE UP?
BECAUSE THE STATE GOVERNMENTS KEEP SHUTTING DOWN COAL POWER STATIONS WITH NOTHING TO REPLACE THEM
Wot? You know Australia just in its current open cuts has a supply of 500+ years of coal at our rate of consumption. If we stopped exporting and used it for energy it would last thousands
@@jamesderiter4370
Hundreds or thousands of years of coal use is ecologically unsustainable.
No point in people having power if they can't grow enough wheat
What about the COMPRESSED AIR CAR! NO MORE PETROL or DIESEL!😳
Fill it up at your local GREENS meeting ,, they are full of hot air
Rubber band powered vehicles take less time to charge.

So, its ok for China, India and other Countries to keep coal fired power stations but hell no Australians cant remain with Coal until an alternative is up and running. ❤️🇦🇺🦘
