"For each weather effect" Hail: "You are in the weather council but we do not grant you the rank of Castform form." Sandstorm: "This is outrageous, this is unfair."
Call me a conspiracy theorist, but Smeargle's bid for a seat on the Horse Council feels like a psyop designed as a spoiler to Magcargo's bid. I think Horsea is using Smeargle to literally run a smear campaign.
"Castform has four different type forms for each weather effect. 'No weather' is a weather effect and Sandstorm is the default state of things. I work a 9-5 at the ADV OU factory and am married to Tyranitar by common law." Jimothy spitting facts as usual.
slugma learns it magcargo cant so its by prior evolution only and its by TM by this logic snorlax is a horse cause it learns high horsepower by level up and TM
smeargle is a surprisingly well-balanced pokemon. the fact that it can learn nearly any move is balanced by its rock-bottom stats. even in later generations, the wider pool of moves keep it relevant, and its abilities allow for either total chaos or more consistency in it gameplay. you'd think that game freak would overdo a pokemon that can learn every move, but it's just been relevant without being overbearing in every generation (and in a lot of different tiers, too).
Smeargle's Sketch allowed it to choose any defense attorney it wanted, and Mudsdale is the best choice it could have gone with. Truly a big brain play.
Wait wait wait, is Smeargle a Pegasus?! Because it can learn High Horsepower and Fly, along with Surf, now surf is important because Poseidon created horses along with the Pegasus
The Horse Counsil makes a absurd blunder here. Smeargle gets excess to the move Transform, which allows it to transform into a pristine horse such as Magcargo. Such value is rarely seen these days and cannot be ignored by the Counsil
Cat jumpscare at 10:21, I hope Jim learns to be more professional in the future this is detrimental to the viewer experience and makes macargo look bad to the horse council and worsens his chances
Also gen 9 gave it pop bomb, so it has an actual stab move. A set with pop bomb power trip and shell smash once defeated me and I've never been able to recover from that.
As far as I've heard, they nerfed Dark Void in Gen 7 because of Smeargle spamming it in VGC. They nerfed the signature move of legendary Pokémon because of this little guy. I'd say that's worthy of note. Poor Darkrai...
They also made Smeargle completely unable to use the move, then left it nerfed to oblivion... despite the fact Darkrai is a mythical and is traditionally always banned in VGC anyway.
Smeargle uses sketch to learn any move, it sounds super broken but check the numbers. Smeargle uses sketch to learn any move, it sounds super broken but check its garbage staaats.
Genuin question: why isn't Smeargle using knock off more in gen 3? Spore, Spikes, Boom, and knock off instead of will-of-wisp or thunder wave feels really good especially as a lead, knocking of a Zapdos, Skarmory and salamence is huge imo
Best guess is status just takes priority over item removal most of the time. Sure you can knock off one pokemons item, but then that pokemon can switch in freely bc they'll know you wont have status. You probably also already have knock off on something else bc its actually a very damaging move so no need to double dip.
in general knock off is extremely valuable and most mons would kill for it, but the reason it's not used on smeargle is the pace mismatch. smeargle is a hyper offense mon that wants to spike, spore and explode for it's teammates to break through as quickly as possible. the turn you spend clicking knock could've been an attack from modest moltres or banded aerodactyl which would do way more damage than two or 3 turns of leftovers
@@axel8912 np, i should clarify that as a concept there's nothing wrong with knock off as an offensive tool, it's just usually more of a defensive thing since hariyama and armaldo are a better fit on defense, and smeargle is way too frail to use it properly. but there's definitely some potential for stuff like knock hariyama physical offense to pressure skarm/pert, and just a fun idea i had is knock alakazam to pressure bliss and rachi for special offense
What's funny is that Smeargle is also gamebreaking in the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games as well. Where you can boost it's terrible stats to max, and quite easily clear rooms or entire floors.
@@SilverScarletSpiderThere was 1 and it lasted a month and had no major tournaments (plus they let you have as many restricteds as you wanted so it was overrun with much stronger legendaries and Mew was never really seen). For all intents and purposes it has never really been allowed
Honestly it'd be just as flawed as the actual 2 users of the move and would struggle to fit it into its moveset nowadays. Maybe on a scarf set that manages to get in later in the game but you can also just use Lunar Blessing for a very similar effect while also leaving the restored mon at full hp and all pp restored instead of half hp where they'll struggle to hit the field again
I love how Smeargle's viability fluctuates throughout the gens. Because each gen that features it most likely gives it new tools, while also increasing the variety of Pokemon with different movesets, potentially overriding reasons to run it.

They both lose it.
The same thing happened with Gyarados and Salamence in 8 OU, which lost viability when Dynamax was banned, and logically so.
But that doesn't make it a gimmick strategy.
As I already said, gimmick is Shedinja, Eiscue, Togedemaru FEAR, etc.
Smeargle is solid in most gens. Only bans stop it.
@@emblemadefuego20 Smeargle is a gimmick pokemon, it has terrible stats and a bland typing but access to nearly every move in the game. Again, I think you're mixing up mons that are gimmicky in tiers (usually considered inconsistent) vs mons that are themselves a gimmick (built around a very strong facet but flawed in other aspect(s)). It's 2 different applications of the word gimmick and you're applying the wrong one
I'm leaving video games. So I'll be unsubscribing. But I just wanted to tell you I love your videos and I'm really thankful for your work. ADV revival was also a blast to follow.
Good video
Ah yes the pokemon that stole darkrai's cool move and got it nerfed into the dirt lol
