    Push the water until just a drop of coffee comes out.
    Stop pressing and wait 20 seconds.
    Push to finish. This infuses the puck. Changes the flavor.

      You'd better make sure to clean it really, really well, though. Otherwise, it'll ruin the flavor of the coffee. Of course, if you're using some cheap, not freshly roasted coffee beans, then it won't matter either way.

    I just tried this an hour ago with 1 aeropress scoop of Café Naviera from Tampa, FL. I tamped using an ALDI italian seasoning canister (MANY spice canisters are the same size as the one he uses, so just try out a few in your cabinet). I then added water to the 2 line on the aeropress with a second filter atop the grounds. Pressed immediately. Result: heaven.
    This is by FAR the best method I've seen. I'm really surprised I don't see more aeropress videos using this method! It makes the closest thing to crema I've seen!!

    Best faux espresso I've made thus far with the AP. I used James Hoffman's suggested ratio of 18g coffee with 90g water which will yield a double espresso (60-70g). I bloomed with 30g water for 30 seconds then filled the rest & pressed really slow aiming for 2 minutes total including bloom time. If using a metal filter don't tamp too hard because (in the bloom phase) you want all the dusty fines to get wet, swell up & stick to the puck so they won't pass through. The only down side is that you don't get the efficient extraction by stirring the grounds. For example the water striking the top paper filter spreads to the outside as it looks for the path of least resistance. Thus, I question if the water distribution through the cake is even.

  • @RobbyIbrahim
    @RobbyIbrahim 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hadn't seen the double-paper-filter and tamping method before. This is why I never let myself think I've mastered my Aeropress and periodically search for new methods. Thanks!

    I just made a cup. Pretty good! I didn't get as much crema as your's in the video, but I'll keep trying. I think the taste was affected due to using lawry's lemon pepper seasoning instead of the chicken salt. I guess I'll go buy the real thing and try again :/

    One thing to keep in mind is not all coffee beans produce crema, even off a espresso machine. Most of the roasts will give you what you're after. Another thing you need is pressure, and you can get more pressure if you use a metal filter at the bottom. These metal filters are made by Able coffee for the aeropress, and have tons of really small perforations, I don't know the micron number, but it's small. Add the top paper filter as you see here and tamp. That bottom metal filter will build a lot more pressure than a paper filter, and thus produce that crema! Enjoy!

    • @AndyMilne
      @AndyMilne 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Steve M. The metal Able coffee disk yields at the same pressure as the paper filter. The double filter trick he's using here will increase the pressure but i'm not sure it's useful because the increased pressure the second filter creates is above the coffee slurry... more effective would be add two paper filters at the bottom and grind the coffee at a finer setting.

    • @Mad5cout
      @Mad5cout 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unless the paper filter is air tight (hint: it isn't) then the pressure will equalize across the entire interior chamber of the Aeropress.

    I've done this over 20 times and each time I feel like I'm going to pull a muscle or something lol. It's extremely hard to push, however I bought a Spressa Mezzo lever kit. This will solve your problem, also one should invest in a GREAT burr grinder to render consistent grinding results. As far as the ratio goes, single shot is 1:1, double shot 1:2, triple is 1:3. All shots should start with 19g. If you want a single shot then you'll put in 19g of coffee and you'll expect 19g of espresso in return, for a double you'll put in 19g of coffee but expect 38g of espresso in return and so on. Water temp should be 200 degrees.

    Just got into this coffee game and bought one of these. If anyone is having a hard time keeping that top filter stuck to the top after compressing use two filters instead of one. I don’t know why but for me using one filter always has it coming back out when I lift after compressing. Two filters has them both stay tucked and sealed to the bottom perfectly after compressing it.

    If anyone wants a tip to enhance this awesome method!! It seems that if you do a rapid plunge 70-80% of the way then pull back plunger to the top & push back down not all the way. If you repeat that technique once or twice it seems that the pressure builds up so much so that this can only be done for stronger people But the crema is more than normal!

    Casey keep doing Davinci videos. Also coffee beans need to rest for at least two days after roasting, otherwise you get lots of co2 trapped in beans (which you might think cream of coffee but actually it loss of flavors) We rest the beans for a week to make Turkish coffee, 2 days is enough for an espresso

    This method is 10/10. I followed their directions at first and it was weak and unimpressive. I did this with the two filter method and it was leagues better- emphasis on "leagues". The two filters is golden, man. I won't use any other method in the future. I even tried the inverted method some use with this, but this was much better. My stepdad had a fancy espresso machine plumbed into the house and I'd say this is about as close as you can probably get without spending a thousand dollars. I have an older one that is not as wide as the newer could that be it?

    I tried this out today and it turned out yummy, glad I found this video! I like to enjoy my coffee iced and with syrup but a little kick to it/not so mellow. I was wondering if from experience you had any tips on how to keep the filter from floating upwards once I add the water? (perhaps I did not tamp hard enough?) I will try again pretty soon

    Tears of JOY. Tried this first time today. WOW It really does work. At first I thought I was watching a magic show with your video. Yes I'm a bit skeptical, born from the show me era. Well I've created a new LIST "curious Must See by Others" on my channel, and of course this is the first on it. Plus added a post about it on my FB page. Yep I'm one of those that loves coffee. Thank you again. (With TH-cam I feel like the man who is up to his neck in alligators because he forgot to drain the swamp. Housekeeping day today.) Again GREAT VIDEO. Also going to follow your color grading tutorials and do my best to understand what you are talking about as I have loads to learn... TY

    Great video - I'm optimistic that I too might achieve crema with my Aeropress. So far I haven't had much luck. I can't seem to create a seal tight enough to keep the water from mixing with the coffee when poured onto that top filter. In your video, the water sits right on top of it perfectly. Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong?

      Your silicone plunger end is wore out. Order one from Aeropress for $4.95 plus shipping.
      You must make a lot of coffee.

    I just bought an Aeropress and have it on its first test run business trip. Destroys hotel coffee. I am trying the "two-filter-compression technique next. Thanks for the great idea!

    I just got my knock-off YuroPress from Alibaba. Had a few extra accessories and the directions were a little basic. I'm trying to recreate a white chocolate moca I had from a small cafe that, thanks to COVID, had to close for good. I tried regular coffee but it tastes too acidic and I know they used espresso to make it. So time to find the right beans and run some taste tests. Thanks for the video! Your latte looks delicious and gives me hope for my future moka.

    My Aeropress doesn't have numbers on the plunger, only the outer cylinder. Do I have a fake or is that how they're making them now?

    I wondered if anyone had tried using two filters. I will defo try this now. Have you tried frothing warm milk in an old cafetiere/French press? About 10 secs with vigorous up/down is better than the whizzer, and with a bit of technique you can get a thicker foam for a flat white!

    I've been doing this method for 2 years.
    I dont put a filter on top of the puck though. If you use fresh ground you dont have any issues. I use my old grinder to smack them down and spin the aeropress when i pour the water so you dont get a crater.

    Why not compress the ground coffee with plunger of aero press itself? Why use salt bottle?

    • @zgacc1
      @zgacc1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My guess is that the plunger is too flush, so when you remove it, then the puck will fall apart from the negative pressure.
