The Callisto Protocol is a survival horror video game developed by Striking Distance Studios and published by Krafton. It is considered a spiritual successor to the Dead Space series and is set on Jupiter's moon Callisto in the year 2320. The game's story follows Jacob Lee, played by Josh Duhamel, who is sent to a prison facility set on the Jovian moon Callisto to fight against infected prisoners with an unknown disease while uncovering dark secrets of the facility. The game is entirely linear, with no open world areas and no side quests. The game challenges players to master a thrilling blend of hand-to-hand and ranged combat, including a unique gravity weapon once used by Black Iron guards to control the prison population.

What a Plot Twist knowing Jacob didn't survive in the end while all of this scenario were just happening in his mind. He has received a Fate more worse than Isaac had.
It was obvious not that far in. His vision kept shifting, a lot of things not making sense. It was either he was in a coma and his brains rotting or its a memory. Video games aren't that original anymore

From what I can assume, Jacob is trap in a coma and the mutation is keeping him alive, Dr. send a message about the truth and then the whole place finally collapse. This is the ending they put in a DLC? Are they cutting off this game, because it failed and then gave the protagonist a dark ending?
The only way this ever gets a sequel is Final Girl Dani gets to be the protagonist in the sequel, out to take revenge on the people who caused all this, but the place also somehow got infested with mutants. Basically Resident Evil: Code Veronica... in space.
Jacob comes back by regenerating his lost limbs, where his mutation evolve, but there's a ticking bomb that can mutate him into a monster or he would be an ultimate being (of evolution) where he could lose his old self (his memories & personality).
but how did he got into a coma or got that badly injured? he was fine on the game ending. and im more confuse on the last minit dlc ending. is it a joke? he's perfectly fine with half a body just hanging there and the room doesn't seem to be collapse/ crush full of rubble.

This game was something else, and not in the greatest way. Visually, it was beautiful. Otherwise, it was not fantastic.
The DLC ending though... a rough way for Jacob to go, but that post end scene had me chuckling.

Yeah, I don’t think Jacob was entirely guilty. He’s just doing his job but unfortunately it did non the less hurt people even if he had no intention.
Yeah I mean when you think about it he had no clue what he was hauling and transporting. I get he inadvertently caused a lot of deaths. But ultimately he never intended for it and was unaware of his involvement. It'd be one thing if he knew and said not my problem.

An hour and half dlc that changed nothing about the overall plot except killed the character that alot of people liked. Bravo Krafton never buying your games again.

@@Tywil714 To be honest I whouldent have given it any thought in Jacob's shoes. My honest to God thought whould be I lucked out and found a stupid easy transport job that paid stupid well is that I just had some super important medical supplies and that's it.
Makes me wonder what's the point of this DLC, if Jacob was actually "dead" from the start. Could have just shown his death in the base game. Yes, Mahler did some research on him, but as of now it doesn't hold any significance, because it's a single game, and it probably won't lead to anything, as the sequel is unlikely. It possibly would have been better (to a certain degree) if the twist was that Jacob was "dead" throughout the base game. It would at least somewhat explain his hallucinations, which I don't think were ever addressed in the story. He just saw things for some reason. Callisto Protocol's infection doesn't have the psychological aspect like Markers from Dead Space, which is reinforced by the fact that nobody else in the game sees stuff. Guess Jacob's sense of guilt is just _that_ strong.
The idea of this DLC reminds me of Dead Space 3's DLC, but in the case of DS3 it worked much better. "Awakened" played around with your head a lot, telling you right from the get-go that maybe main heroes actually died or maybe not, so the story kept you guessing whether the whole thing was even real. The ambiguity of the ending also helped.
On the other hand, that secret ending is really funny

Killing Jacob basically means that the game won’t come back for another sequel
Jacob was supposed to be Issac Clark’s protege and the Callisto Protocol was supposed to be a spiritual successor of dead space
They made Jacob such a important character he was literally the representation of humanities survival
But since sales didn’t hit their 5.million goal and only came down to 2.million instead
the budget and effort they worked on costed them a bit to much since this is their first game for a new studio they won’t be able to recover the money to make a sequel so killing of Jacob basically means the game is dead thanks for playing

I like dark/sad endings personally not everything has to end on a Good note. Though bc of the docs research other outbreaks would be easier to contain and stop.
Too many “dark” endings feel like torture porn after a while. It’s insane. Kind of like Peter Parker in most comics.
you can already tell that something was wrong when Jacob's suit looked different from the main game suit. Theres a lot more LED for sum reason. Another thing is that Jacob woke up in a completely different area than from the escape pods. perfect foreshadowing by developers. RIP Jacob

It's not difficult, It's just tedium. It looks so not fun, even the video fast forwarded the final boss, cause it's just the same thing for like 10 mins. like every enemy... for the whole game...

When I saw that the name of the protagonist was Jacob in the game, it reminds of Jacob's Ladder, a movie from the 90s, I like to think that the game was a homage to that movie. RIP Jacob.

Agree or disagree. This game was...ok. the dlc. Showed no continuation of anything. For a second I thought Mahler was somehow still alive but I believe she was probably crushed with Jacob's corpse. So. The DLC failed.
The whole thing was just: Jacob is killed, obviously, and we're playing a dream. Where we find out that Mahler was gathering info from him dead corpse.
If they were going to reveal anything about him dying. I don't see why they didn't just reveal that in the base game. Why make a DLC that'll give us hope. Us hoping that he makes it off the burning ship.
And, the DLC didn't really add anything to the main game. Just confirming that he's dead. Although I do agree with some people. They probably killed Jacob off because of the reception was. But no one wants that horrible fate for a character. It's fucked up how his last words were ”almost..there" meaning he was alive for a few short seconds. Believing that he survived in his mind.

This looks like they had two endings prepared (Jacob lives/escapes and Jacob hallucinates) and decided to go with the latter one after they realilzed the game does not do well enough for a sequel. Pretty tragic fate for both the game and the protagonist

His dead but the doctor use him to gather more evidence of the company and him escaping in a ship means he a ghost AI with the evidence were send to the authorities.
The last part is a joke ending that the actor was left in place by his coworkers.
Jacob's been almost dead since the end of the main game, and the doctor dragged him back to send the info he gathered to the girl that escaped

The “it was all just a dream” trope is some of the worst writing possible.
In Year 6 at school we were taught not to ever use that trope in our creative writing class- that’s 11-12 years old for non-Brits.
And here we have a AAA game with dozens of millions in budget using it, inexcusable.
Your creative writing class is fucking wrong then, because there's no such thing as a trope that's "the worst writing possible" or "not to ever be used". Tropes exist for a _reason._ If a trope were fundamentally "bad" then _it wouldn't be a trope in the first place._ Tropes are tools; what makes them "good" or "bad" in a work is _how_ the writer uses them.
Personally I think the DLC's use of the "all just a dream" trope is...fine. Not great, but fine. It's adequately foreshadowed throughout the DLC story, it's given a pretty solid in-universe justification, it makes logical sense in hindsight (since the base game ended with Jacob facing off against the Biophage horde alone), and there's a clear thematic purpose to it (as it simultaneously punishes Jacob's sins with death yet rewards his heroism with peace in his final moments). Which is already better than like 90% of "all just a dream" endings out there.
It's a flawed ending to be sure, but I don't think the "all just a dream" trope is entirely to blame for it. The main issue in my opinion is that the ending is just too _short._ The reveal happens and then in like a minute the credits are rolling. There just wasn't enough time for the reveal to fully set in, and for Jacob's story to receive proper closure. The little fourth-wall-break comedy bit at the very end doesn't exactly help either
The alienware armor really kills the stealth aspect for me.
This game is great! Best horror we had some may hate it but I do favor this one and a promising ending to a great character.

I didnt play the game yet but the ending doesnt seem that bad too me, i mean the truth is he wasnt a hero just a man wanting to make up for what he did when it a lot of damage was already done. The ending made sense too me, sad maybe. But Jacob did make up for his part in the end.

This game suffered so much from the fact that this was a DLC ON DAY ONE.
I feel like this could've been in the base game. It's all still lackluster with an ok twisted ending.
