    S&B Intake installed - Started with a baseline run using the Dragy (link below) to get a starting point on how the truck was performing today. Then installed the airbox only, followed by a comparison run. Installed the full pipe, completing the Intake. Made a run then removed the side cover for the most airflow followed by a final run, giving us the numbers to see if this intake helped gain any power.

    Personally I think the truck needs about 60/100 miles to retune or map the air intake learn where to be and you’d probably see a greater improvement. Really enjoy the channel and knowledge Thank you sir.

      This is not how it works Christopher. The factory ECU is not designed for the increased airflow, intake. You will actually get a performance loss. The only way to get increased performance, efficiency is to tune the ECU. He is just wasting money otherwise. I know what I am talking about, I have had to heavily modded diesel trucks. Tuning will make the biggest difference, at the end of the a day, a smaller engine like this, and the gains are really minimal. 6-10hp max and a little torque with the intake . That’s with tuning it.

    A tenth of a second equals 350 dollars, I think I will keep my KNN filter that fits the stock housing. Not worth it, if your after noise that's all personally preference. That platform needs a different tune to see a real difference. If s&b goes on sale, I might consider it. Thanks for the content. Take care !

    Works better then the S&B on a 6.2. my Dragy / race box testing showed a loss of 3 tenths. Makes the 6.2 a total dog off the line. I believe it messes the MAF sensor reading up. Took it off and sold it.

    I have an 07 Chevy Avalanche. I first installed an airaid intake tube with a drop in k&n filter in the stock intake box. I ended up finding an airaid cold air intake on Facebook marketplace with the filter and filter surround. I did a 0-60 with the stock box, drop in k&n filter and the airaid intake tube and did another 0-60 with the cold air intake and there was less than a second of difference in the times. I kept the airaid intake tube and the stock air box with the k&n filter and sold the cold air intake. Not wasting my money on cold air intake again.

    Everyone always says CAI are a waste of money and time in this case your numbers prove otherwise how Brian Rodrigues doesn’t see that is beyond me unless for his money he needs to see something more that I do understand and for the money the S&B system is really very well priced for what you get so with that said obviously there is an improvement be it small but it’s verification that it does flow better than OEM not to mention the sound improvement which just for that it’s worth the money IMO so a slight gain in flow performance is just a bonus thank you for your efforts I know doing things like this take up a lot of time but I for one find the information very helpful.

    Chasing dyno results can often lead to erroneous results and trying to measure results with a draggy is one up from a butt-dyno. We do know for a fact that these S&B CAI's do what they are intended to do, and that is they reduce the amount of pressure loss through the intake system, i.e. the amount of air restriction in your air box. Reducing the amount of restriction increases the airflow. The cool thing with S&B is that they conduct and then publish ISO 5011 validation of every filter in every application, including the LM2 from a MY20 1500 GM truck. S&B measured results showed up to a 51% increase in airflow over the stock air intake. You get greater filtration efficiency with either of their filters and you are unquestionably increasing the flow of your intake system over the stock intake, and so that is all good!
    Now, what your ECU chooses to do with it all is another story. Your ECU has both short and long-term fuel trims and they can accommodate to a certain degree for a change in the amount of air going into your motor via the tune on your ECU. GM LS/LT motors are notoriously rich from the factory which usually means you can increase the amount of air in your AFR (air/fuel ratio) and still see some gains without having to adjust your tune. If you change the parameters of your AFR too much and your fuel trims are working at their max settings to no avail, that is when you will see a CEL and need a tune.
    There is a good video on YT of a MY16 GM 1500 5.3L V8 with an S&B intake before and after dyno run on the stock tune, and then another measurement after a good tune. The stock ECU had an AFR of 10.9 and the CAI alone, even with the same, stock, GM tune, then measured 11.9 after the S&B CAI install. Gains were modest of around 5 rwhp and 6 rw ft/lbs of tq. Lower RPM's just over 3k rpm saw even greater gains; 14 rwhp and 21 rw ft/lbs of tq. But after a good tune, "a little less fuel and more timing" resulted in the best (peak) gains, of course. 19 rwhp and 24 rw ft/lbs of tq. (Even larger gains at various points throughout the powerband.) Keep in mind, the first thing most tunes will do on these GM vehicles is disable torque management and there is always a slight gain to be had with that alone. FI motors should also be able take advantage of more air (as well as a tune) and deliver greater results, as well.
    My point is neither a draggy nor your butt-dyno is going to give you the full picture on what a CAI may or may not be doing to your ECU. S&B eliminates a lot of the variables right off the bat with their ISO validation of each filter on every specific application, so you know their CAI is working on your specific vehicle, and that is a great place to start.

    • @DemonWorks
      @DemonWorks  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I appreciate the comment. I will disagree though, I think S&B provides filtration data on filters only and shows zero results for actual performance. I know in my applications, I have noticed several negatives with the S&B airbox installed, also noted higher intake temps. The duramax short/long term fuel trims is new to me so that tells me you are more experienced in the gas applications. Maybe those perform better. In regards to the Dragy, after several videos with my opinions, viewers requested I use that device to gather data for them. So I did, proof is in actual operation and the S&B fails. That intake pipe sure is nice though.

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act prohibits product manufacturers from conditioning consumer warranties on the use of any original equipment part or service. Furthermore, a manufacturer can only deny warranty coverage if it can demonstrate that a non-original equipment part or related service caused a defect to occur in the original product. In the case of motor vehicles, new car manufacturers have ignored these conditions outlined in Magnuson-Moss and have misled consumers to believe that they must have dealer service shops install only original equipment replacement parts or fear having their new car warranty voided.

    For the OP and all the mentals in the comments, if you add an intake, allowing for a higher air/fuel ratio (volumetric/stoichiometric) without a tune your vehicle will try to compensate by adding extra fuel at cruising speed and less fuel at full throttle. You hands down need a tune, and unfortunately for the 3.0.; Until the derringer comes out, it ain't happening.

    • @DemonWorks
      @DemonWorks  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Negative. Would a tune be optimal, yes. But if the tube is the same at the maf as the stock unit, everything in front of that should not matter.
      And for your knowledge, the Derringer will not do anything a stock tune would do in regards to an intake swap like you mention.
