I love watching tarantula husbandry . I could never do it because I'd be too afraid of accidentally killing them from not knowing what I'm doing. You and daves little beasties are my favorite keepers
I appreciate that a whole lot! Thank you so much! Glad you really enjoy watching my content! And I’m sure you’d eventually be able to care for one! They’re fairly easy animals to care for! 😄
Hello Kelvin Wiley sir! I just wanted to say you're an amazing and talented human being and a great example for what all should strive to be. Intelligent, passionate and a huge heart for all forms of life 🙏🏽 bless you good sir, and keep up the excellent work!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words and admiration for my passion! It truly means a lot! Pleased that you enjoy and support the work that I do! 🙏🏾
Love this video, learned that i handled an old world tarantula when i was kid for quite an extended amount of time and didnt know it was more venemous then new world tarantula. Other then occasionally throwing some hairs she did very good, very deliberate and easy to read. No idea what species it was i was like 9 or something and the owner holding on to it for somebody else 😂.
I always felt that a Chilean rose was a perfect beginner T, mild attitude, not fast, easy to take care of. Grammestola Rosea(spelling?) Love the hairstyle, brother!☺ Looks more like a summer cut, but...hope all is well my brother!! Peace
Thank you so much brother! Glad you like my new cut! I agree! Rose Hairs are definitely a perfect beginner species! Hope all is well with you too man! 😄
Tarantulas & jumping spiders kinda cured my arachnophobia (well, I said kinda because I'm still somewhat scared of slim leggy spiders like huntsmen lol). Got my first tarantula like 8 years ago, sadly my biggest female B hamorii died a month ago a week after molt 😢
Thanks so much bro! Glad you like the new look! When I got envenomated by my female Southern Black Widow (Latrodectus mactans), I experienced symptoms for a day and a half and was completely fine after that. But I appreciate it man! 🤙🏾
I'm getting a GBB for my first tarantula some time later this year :) Some day I wanna start a tarantula collection, but I'd like to test the waters and see if I think tarantulas are for me with the GBB
Believe it or not, a GBB was my very first tarantula also! I raised mine from a tiny little sling up into an adult. Unfortunately, it ended up being a male, so he only lived for around 2 and a half years. But a GBB is honestly a pretty decent starter species! Some individuals can be a little skittish when handling, but other than that, they’re fairly easy to care for! 😄
Thanks so much man! And wow! That’s quite the variety! I’m assuming your OBT escape and is lost somewhere in your house I presume? 😅 I’ve had that happen with a Curly Hair once lol
@@kelvinwiley yep, obt has escaped although it’s probably not alive anymore since it was only a small sling and has been missing for a fair few months!! I’d rather have a curly hair somewhere in the house than an obt lol 😂
Kelvin love your videos. Was wondering how you get to the point of holding them so easily. I’m always worried about dropping it or taking a bite and dropping it. You pet its back and everything how in the world.😂
I was wondering at what size the tarantula should be to start handling? Does it depend on how calm it seems? Would 1 inch dls be too small? I know a lot depends on the individual but just an average size to wait for. Thanks 😀
Size can definitely play a factor when it comes to handling a tarantula, but it’ll all come down to the personal individual. You may try to attempt to handle your 1 inch tarantula. Tarantulas at that size however tend to be more on the skittish side, but it could be worth the attempt. I would personally try and start with gently brushing it with a soft-tipped paintbrush to see how it reacts to something touching it. If it darts off when touched, it’s probably not a good idea to try to handle it. Hope this helps! 😄
This summer will be a big year for insects for me. I'm getting at least a Velvet Ant. I never really considered a tarantula before, I kind of want one now. And, I want to do some sting comparisons this summer too. I can count on one hand all I've been stung by: 1) Vespula germanica (Yellowjacket) ; 2) regular Honeybee; 3) Pogonomyrmex maricopa (Harvester Ant); 4) Solenopsis invicta (Fire ant); and lastly, and probably the worst one 5) Pseudomyrmex gracilis (Mexican Twig Ant). I feel I'm not getting the true experience with just those 5.
That’s awesome! Where I live, the only one on that list that’s native to me is the Honeybee lol. But I hope you have much success in finding each species to be able to sting yourself with! 😁
@@kelvinwiley There's a few I want to do. Velvet ant for sure. I want to know what all the hype is about. I'm also thinking maybe the Polistes exclamans. Plus some others. You seem to have fun with it, and educating people about them and other insects, specifically about how they're not typically dangerous as people think, and that's really cool. You probably prevented many bugs from getting stepped on. And for that, I'm thankful.
This is great i appreciate the video. I actually plan to buy my first tarantula really soon. I've been really interested in getting a Grammostola pulchra, which is one of the genus you mentioned. I really love the look of them. I do have two kids 4 and 8 who might want to hold it or pet them under my close supervision of course, what do you think of this?
Thank you so much! Glad to hear you really enjoyed the video! Grammostola pulchra is honestly one of the best beginner species of tarantulas! As you probably know, they’re widely known for their incredibly gentle demeanor and insanely long lifespan! I personally don’t see a problem in them handling it, as long as the tarantula is at least a juvenile and they’re sitting on the ground while it’s being handled. Just for extra precaution, and something I’ve personally done when letting kids handle tarantulas, is to place a soft blanket down while they’re sitting and handling the spider. This way, if for whatever reason the tarantula falls, they fall onto the blanket to break their fall 😄
The tarantulas are beautiful! 🥰 But for me, I'll just watch your videos! I have not worked up the nerve to handle one! 🫣😊 I also like your new products! 🤗
In the past, I would frequently brush some of my tarantulas using a soft-tipped paintbrush to get them accustomed to something touching their bodies. Now, I pretty much go straight to handling them based on their activity level. If I get a new tarantula that seems pretty flighty and erratic at the slightest vibrations, I tend not to frequently handle them. Others that have a much calmer demeanor usually always get handled by me 😄
Out of the triangle I've owned I found the baboon spiders to be the most aggressive. What would you say are the most aggressive in your opinion Kelvin? Or anyone that reads this.
I absolutely love your videos, and i do some wild shit with wild arthropods without making them feel threatened. But am i allowed to ask you how the hell you do it? Like how do you get that wasp in your mouth without her getting defensive? Shit like that blows my mind, i am convinced if we was neighbor, we would be best friends
I appreciate that a whole lot! Thank you! I’m just extremely comfortable with these creatures. There’s always a risk involved with what I do, but I remain calm and try to always be in control of what I do with these animals 😄
You wouldn’t want to keep a Baboon Spider 😬 (Tarantula) if you are a beginner and are thinking of handling. That being said they all had different personalities in my own experience.
Avoid reptile expos like a plague! 😀You'll go there to buy your first brachyphelma and leave with a bunch of other animals and will be hooked like me 😀
