    The Atomos ninja v accepts video range and so it’s great that the H2S allows you to choose the range to send out. If recording to the ninja v, you would want to choose video range otherwise the image will appear very contrasty because it’s interpreting a full signal as video. Ninja v has a legalise option but that does not give the same results as just sending video range signal to the atomos. The problem is also not just with atomos. Different tools might accept a different signal so having the option in the camera makes the camera a lot more versatile

    Video Range determines if you want your gamma curve metadata for 0-255 is rec709 or full 0-1023 is bt2020 (best suited for delivery in HDR). Basically in Davinci Resolve when you set your project settings, you can use (and should) Davici Color Managed. This gives you access to HDR timeline features critical for true 10bit HDR or Dolby Vision Delivery. Now when editing in these modes I truly urge a true 10bit monitor or field monitor with at least 1000 nits, preferably higher for Dolby Vision. Once you're in the Color tab you'll see that your histograms/waves have a 0-1023 range ot 0-4000 in Dolby Vision.
    This is where recording in 0-1023 is important, you now have 0-1000nits of gamma range. versus 0-200 which is Rec709 SDR. Most folks miss this, and are actually stretching Rec709 to fit BT2020. You end up with hilights that look bright greyish almost under exposed. They're not technically, your are just pushing the footage beyond what it can represent.
    Ideally, recording 10bit is only worthwhile if you're recording a 0-1023 range and editing in that range. Log and HLG shoot flatter to help mimic the lack of 10bit 0-1023, Log and HLG in 0-255 Rec709 can be stretched a little more. Do you need HLG or Log for HDR, well yes and no. I recommend HLG because it's an industry standard for displays, adding the HLG metadata helps your end users display go.. "Hey, your 10bit with 0-1000nits footage and BT2020 colors, we gotcha covered"

      Thank you for your explanations. so is it better to go with full range regardless of the recording codec selected... ie prores , all intra l, long gap etc..

    • @mrbarkan
      @mrbarkan 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think that's why people have been saying to not use it with ProRes because since ProRes, especially in HQ you have more date to work with, people tend to push it further and don't have proper monitoring for it. I just got the camera so can't really say, but my idea of recording in ProRes is for projects that require a sort of RAW treatment of the phootage, something that will have archival value and may be used on future projects as well.

    thanks for the tutorial. I guess it is also working with the xh-2s. Does it work better via the hdmi port or the usb is enough? usb-vc towards usb-c works as well?
    - does it work with 4k or would that creat too much lag?
    And, last but not least, wich softwares are compatible(teams, google meet, zoom skype...)?

    Hey, man. I prefer MF too, and shoot only video. Fuji has made a giant leap forward with the HX2s.
    Not a fan of AF in most circumstances, ....but there are some great automatic features everyone needs to take advantage of for run and gun shooting. In specific? Auto exposure lock and AWB-Lock when you're doing run and gun.
    Program them on specific buttons and set them to toggle on and off as you manipulate those buttons. You'll virtually never shoot in manual white balance and manual exposure again, even for your professional work.

    • @itsaaronmiller
      @itsaaronmiller  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      While I do have AWB-L on a custom button, I much prefer to choose my own exposure and don’t feel it slows me down a bit. After learning the WB-L feature tho, that was a game changer!

    Zebras, depends on what you're filming. So 65% is ballpark for skin tones, I'm a wedding videographer, so ai use 70-75% because of the dress. I want a slight over, and dial back in post as needed.
