Maybe? lol Canon made a non greedy move and priced that camera just right and Nikon proved it. That said, get whatever Camera you want, I’m not a Canon fan boy. I’m a photographer of 25 years and wanna be DP for the last eight. I currently shoot with a Sony FS7 that I purchased for $1100 because that’s what I could afford and if you know what you’re doing with lighting, composition etc., it really doesn’t matter what you shoot on these days. I promise you my corporate clients aren’t asking, why aren’t you shooting on a Red? 😬🤓
I don't have a use for a Komodo or anything of that caliber yet, but I did just rig out my FX30 and even though I don't feel the quality is any better than my A7IV, it's perceived as "super expensive so it must be good!" by clients. They don't know anything about cameras, they just see what I bring for gear on a commercial shoot and rarely complain anymore about my rates, even though I am providing them with the same content as before... 🤷🏻♂ Good video Aaron. Haha yeah it’s funny how a matter box and v mount battery can really change client perception. Even if it’s a potato of a camera they don’t know the difference. Haha upgrading to a proper cinema camera is more beneficial when you are getting hired out by production companies and contracting more. All depends on needs but the FX30 is a great camera regardless and is used a ton on big sets!! Thanks for the sub!
1. Well depending on the project you may need to rig out the camera that has all the tool built in. 2. Some clients hire based on equipment (not as much anymore) Reds we always favored depending on where you are… 3. You are working in environments/ lighting situations where you need incredible latitude… And you said it at the end RELIABILITY AND CAPABILITIES… Tbere are so many more reasons… ❤
A month ago I got a great deal, I bought a brand new Sony FX6 + Sony 24-105mm f4 for $3080. I can't wait to film some music videos, and some short movies. :)) Having a camera like FX6 makes me more excites to film...
Just got a sigma fp for my passion projects. Love the image quality I’ve been seeing people capture with this camera. Have an FD lens coming that I can’t wait to play with. Outside of that, I’ve been shooting commercials freelancing for a production company. I’ve shot with a team a few times and I loved the experienced. I’m looking to put a team together here in Michigan that I can work with.
The sigma fp seems so cool! Excited to see what all you shoot with it. Shooting with a crew is such a great experience. That’s great you’re enjoying that!

The work I do 90% of the time, calls for just my FX6 or FX3. But the shoots with bigger crew seem to land on the RED or Arri. But I am not a DP on those. The cine bodies do have more butta overall when it comes to the look. My next leap is a cine prime set. Might be this year or early next year. Great video!
The FX6/3 combo really does cut it for most jobs. Gotta love the little extra you can squeeze out of the bigger Cine cams though when the job calls for it. Curious what Cine prime set you’re eyeing! The DZO Arles looks nice!
