I was able to find a VERY limited amount of documentation about this thing after some googling! What you have is an OTACO Bazooo. It is a VERY limited production product and theres only a couple dozen known to exist. It seems the traveler/scout paint on it was done after the fact to mimic an IH Scout. They were made in 1971 and '72, I couldnt find any production numbers but theres maybe a half-dozen of them I can find on the internet. The engine is a CCW (Canadian Curtis Wright ((yes, that Wright))), it was either a 240 or a 290cc. The OTACO brand changed hands a lot, hence the Bazoo only being made in '71 and '72. You are correct, it is supposed to be watertight and float like an Argo.
I'm lookin' at that thing thinking deleting the 6x6 and putting some fully suspended tracks on it instead would be fun as hell. Forgo the amphibious part entirely.
This was made in the city I live in . Otaco was a big industry in this city ( ORILLIA )or many , many year. They even built toys, and was a major employer in the city I’ve been watching you for a long time. Wild to see you working on something from my hometown
It's awesome small would 😊 really . Well I grow up in Lake Dalrymple lol so I know Orillia well . Now am in washago but I thought it was cool too ,see that . Soon as seen it I was like I know what that is lol I actually drove one about 10 years ago and yes it's a crazy set up . Thanks , Matt.
Made in Orillia , about 70 miles up from Toronto . The Ottaco building was the home of one of Canadas first autos and has produced many things since its humble beginnings . Called the sunshine city its home to many notable people . Its also just another 40 miles south of Bracebridge , home of yours truly . You now qualify as a Ottaco mechanic and probably own one of the last one in existance of there six wheeled things . I really enjoyed the video , LMAO all the way through , Well thats that Take care stay well Stuart in Ontario .........
The Banana Splits on UK Tv every saturday morning in the 70s used to ride in one of these 6x6 's or a model very similar. Thanks for bringing back happy memories from a 56 year old who is still learning to become an adult but the kid inside is still winning .
I think I know why I’ve never seen these things before. The two stroke engine sounds good (finally). It would make a great machine for the woods maybe when the snow melts. As always, entertainment at its finest. Thanks Brent.
I remember seeing those machines in popular mechanics i believe when i was young, probably when it was new it was a great to use. Well done reviving it and bringing it back to life
One thing I like about Brent, when he start a project he runs till its done. There's nothing worse than watching a build and it gets shelved halfway through (Bad Chad).
Yes i agree and the only reason i follow Bad Chad is just to see how bad he fouls up and makes up a fake reason he did something because his brain told him to . I was a teenager in the 50s and have already forgot more about the cars of that era than Chad will ever know . Love Brents work and knowing he will not just give up and walk off never caring if the watchers wanted to see the finish . If i laugh here it's for something funny like playing with that 6x6 not something done stupid like Bad Chad projects .
I’m a snowmobile mechanic in Brandon yelling at my phone! Lol all the parts you need to get that running are just down the road at sun and snow in portage! Anybody who deals sun and snow can have you the parts overnight. The bottom fitting on the carb can be replaced with a spin on tillitson spin on filter.
That CCW is a kick ASS Moter it's probably a 440 cc Back in the early 70's their were 1000 manufacturers building Snow ❄ MOBILES and they all used that Moter except Ski doo they made their own
Well at least you got to have some fun with it, after working on it and solving all the problems there were. It is pretty out dated now compared to quads and bigger dump bed enclosed 6 wheelers. I thought for sure Pablo was going to get it, but he didn't see as a fun ride and something he could get killed in. And it stopped smoking at the end of the video, which was very educational working on smaller engines. Take care my friend
That was certainly different!! Surprised that with the age and the rarity of it that you were able to find parts. Great job of persevering with the ignition!!
The US army had the same thing called unimogs, several companies sold them but not for very long, nice job getting that one going, I'm shocked that you can get parts, great work Brent
First time seeing your channel it will not be my last. This is what utube was meant to be. When you had to keep pulling the engine out I thought wow what next but you pulled it off Good Job and I really loved the JOY RIDE Great truck BTW
That engine look really familiar to me when I saw it first thing I thought was snowmobile engine of course. But then what snowmobile engine. When you said ccwo really started making me think. So I looked it up. I found that it is a Canadian Curtis Wright engine. They put these in scorpions Rob's champions in a lot of other off-brand snowmobiles from the 70s. I remember it from my uncle always having to work on his. Happy wrenching.
Hi, I had a Bazoo back in the early 80's. We really had a hard time keeping it running. Chains broke all the time, and we even had a few axels slide out. But when it ran, it was a lot of fun! If I recall, it had a CCW engine.
Quite the machine. Tillotson carbs are the bane of existance to many. The broken spigot is the fuel pump. Mikuni pump helped, but likely the carb needs the crankcase impulse to start. My best suggestion is make an adaptor and stuff a mikuni on it. Makes me want to get my cushman lobster going. Also not many of them around. Pablo wasnt having any part of it😂
Brent, it would have taken you less time to fab a wisconsin 2cylinder, or a 2.8 chevy in that unit. But I enjoyed you guys comments while the little machine was winning. We all need to do that to stay sharp, thanks again.
I live in Ontario Canada and this is now the 2nd one I've seen my Uncle has 1 behind the barn rotting away. They are kinda fast for what they are I remember riding in it when I was a kid.
Just happend onto the TH-cam channel ,This dude is cool ! I wish I had an Argo ,my aunt had a polaris 6x6 with a dump bed ,it was looked like a 4 wheeler with 6 wheels it was a lot of fun
I have only seen a handful of them now six on T.v😂 so anyways I live in washago, Ontario am about 10 or so minutes away from Orillia where the scout was made and where that was made , made seats for schools and I think whatever that they could contact. Lol
Yeah that was pretty cool. Took a long time to get parts for it. It's you probably got the only one that's running. I tried looking it up online. There was one brochure that I sent you but it was on eBay but yeah Pablo's saying no you're not getting me on that but no interesting somebody's going to have fun with it down the road. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦
Not sure if that’s what is meant by saying “I’m going to warm it up a little.” 33:26 Lmbo! What a cool find! Kinda reminds me of those 70’s “Banana Buggies” that the Banana Splits used to drive. Don’t know if that aired in the great white north back in the day but it definitely ages me… 😉 Anyway, thanks for taking us along, it was a howl! Speaking of which, Pablo would have loved a ride in that🥺
Cool build you have going. Not all 67-72 C/30 trucks came with cab lights, only those with R05 "DR wheel conversion" on SPID were mandated. I've had several single wheel cab & chassis trucks without them. Also your front Dana 60 axle has to be from a 77 or later K/30 as there were no 1 ton 4x4 GM trucks till 1977.
Hey Friend had the same idea from a Buffalo NY company. Ran well when it did. We managed to bend the center Axles, which we never fixed. We also managed to have a small engine fire. I was thinking the decals on it were from an IH Scout. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@rexkramer4938 Agreed. Looks like it.
It needs some snow chains!

I really admire your perseverance and depth of knowledge with random old equipment.
I’m old enough to remember the Banana Splits having one of those vehicles in their kids show.
I too remember one banana,two banana,three banana,four
@@aarondwyer3746 OH no .... lol it was on Australian TV in the 80's. th-cam.com/video/XMl6HnhFFIA/w-d-xo.html
I'm old enough to remember that show too..
Like a kid on a carnival ride! After you finally got it running and driving. Love the Pablo talking. You should have more of that.
Pablo said it all! You've had your fun.Joe
Brent"s kid soul within, keep on playing Brent, it's good for the soul, and the peace of mind ... objective accomplished!!.👍👍
Agreed! You're never too old to be 12.
That was an interesting project, amazed you got parts for it!!
Well done Brent.
For a moment, I thought I was watching Mustie1!
I watch musti1 in 🇬🇧 a clever bloke
Get your Beaver out!...two Beavers are better than one....
Lol I was thinking the same thing and just watched his new video
They are both great people and very talented
Couldn’t be Mustie. Brent actually responds to comments.

I think that 2-stroke would be great on Ryder's kart
Your attitude to everything is what challenges me to keep working on stuff even when it isn't going well. Thanks Brent.
Hello Brent, great fun, still smiling. Thanks for brightening this day. Be good and stay safe. 👍
Minty !
Thank You for sharing your video, and letting us hang out .
Later ...
THAT is exactly the sort of thing the Banana Splits fellas would have driven!
I'm convinced that there is nothing you can not make run, my friend!!

Fun buggy. It drives just like a track vehicle but has tires instead for locomotion in water. I admire you sir for your knowledge and patience.
The air compressor was jealous. You are toiling over that motor and it just wanted to show you, "SEE, I WORK JUST FINE"!!!!!

Six wheels of fun for sure. It's a cool little rig. I never had a doubt that you would get it running. Thanks for the video. 👍
There can't be very many of these things left. It is definitely a worthwhile project for someone that is interested in it.
After all that work it was good to see you having lots of fun going doughnuts, pirouettes and just darn enjoying yourself in a 51 year old toy.
Wow, I can't believe all of the good junk I mean treasure in the fields and woods around your area.
Looks like a lot of fun, 😂 reminds me of the Banana Splits show when I was yong, thanks for sharing, all the best to you and your loved ones
Good work. When it first ran it sounded like the starter was still engaged. Way to hang in there, most folks would have pushed it back into the snow.
Sounds heathy Thanks for sharing Great to hear it back from the dead
Really cool to see this revival, many many years ago I had a jiger, identical to yours. Used it for duck hunting. Brought back a lot of memories.
Hey Brent! A fun project for sure. The basic’s are there just needs a little more tender love and care. Great job!!😀😀
The wife's going to take that away. Because you are having to much fun 😅
Fun video Brent.A bit of fore and ice there.Take it out on your hunt for swamp donkeys.
