    you can absolutely tour with just a Push Standalone. Like all standalone gear, there is a ton of preparation and rehearsal. Some choose to just "go with the flow" because they can just rely on backing tracks (which Push is more than capable of providing on it's own). You might be overthinking everything mate and that's no insult. I contend that you just build a single session template, using mostly audio clips of a "rehearsal set" jam out those tunes using Live Desktop and once you have a decent marriage between theory and practice, you can take it to the venue.

    I have a Push 2 which is my favorite device but I don’t know if MPE is enough for me. For stand alone i have an MPC live 2, MPC Key and Maschine plus. I would have to sell two of those to get a push 3 stand alone, or just the Maschine plus or MPC key to get a push 3 controller. I don’t know if it’s worth it. Videos like this can help me decide though. I hope to see more videos where you’re in the zone creating rather than demonstrating.

      I’d recommend watching my video from yesterday, the song I ended up making isn’t amazing but it’s a nonstop 42 min of creating from scratch.
      That said, at this point in my gear journey I’d say if those other devices are bringing you joy I wouldn’t recommend selling them. Alternatively given that the MPC platform is nearly identical on the live and the key, you might be able to justify selling one or the other

    really love your notes progression at 6:54! I would like to buy push3 controller to make live version of my songs but I'm not sure if it's the right choice. I'm searching something that can trigger clips, manages clips volumes, controls effects in real time (delays, filters, timeshaper and stuff) and plays instruments in ableton. Will be the right choice or should I go with something else? Also I was thinking to take it with ableton12 standard (I'm an fl user). Thanks!

    I gave a lot of thought trying to decide between the controller and the stand alone. For me the biggest factor is that I use love to use XO and DrumComputer for drums. Going stand alone is not worth the sacrifices. Plus, I can always connect to my M1 Air and pretend it is stand alone. But honestly, does anyone in the audience care if you have a computer in your setup? I've been using computers on stage since the late 1980's.

      @carlosfedericolopezspindol3103 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there! Which route did you take? After researching more I found that the MPC Key 37 is not bad, but it’s really an outdated / hyped / expensive hardware. For Ableton users a Push 3 as controller it’s already a nice solution, add any 37 key controller if you need it.

    • @DylanParisMusic
      @DylanParisMusic  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you’re cool with being plugged into a computer and you already have Ableton (especially suite), push controller is a pretty solid deal, push standalone is pricey but nice to have that full standalone functionality. If you don’t have Ableton yet then the key 37 might be better value imo.

    I don't know what kind of music you make (yet), but a great way to start finding out what you'll actually do live is to DJ in the local scene of the genre of music would fit in. It kind of breaks the ice and you just add and try more and more live stuff without the pressure to be perfect. You learn to pace a show and you find out how you can mix and match approaches in the same show. Playing live gives you the best feelings, you got to give it a try!

    • @DylanParisMusic
      @DylanParisMusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I appreciate the insight! One of my issues as far as this idea goes for me is just that I don't really fall into one genre or scene so it makes that part tricky as well as general marketing. I try not to limit myself by genre and rather just what i want to make at a given time. I'd say someone like Beck or the Gorillaz are a good example of the sort of genre hopping I do. I tend to call my stuff "pop" or "indie electronic" lately but those are big umbrellas.

      @@DylanParisMusic also, you make a point about potentially using a simpler/cheaper/smaller device to do a live set if you're going to just bake sounds. This is possibly always true. More gear is always a solution but comes with its own obvious problems. The benefit to me is that I can use the same unit for controller or standalone. Also, Push 3 is great at integrating with a modular live set (4x CV and 8 in 8 out with ADAT plus 2x analog inputs). I haven't needed to bake everything either, I only bake some stuff - more for reasons of reducing the number of tracks to reduce horizontal scroll than for staying under CPU limits but perhaps that's just me. Previously with Push 1 I needed a laptop, even if I'm only running a few drum loops.

      I get the disappointment in a product that have flaws out of the gate. Sadly it does seem that this is the way development is done these days. I think you can expect it will take years before it the product seems fully baked.
      I don't get the idea of the expecting that it should do more, or things different, in stand-alone mode. The idea is that it is consistent between the two. It's the same product - the only difference being computer power.

    Don't plan your live sets, learn to switch-on your set-up and make the sounds you love... in a continuous in flow. LIVE sets don't need to be perfect, it's lIVE after all... it should feel like someone is just pulling together beats, sounds... and trying to keep a flow and keep the crowd happy, it shouldn't be produced and synthetic in composition. Stop arranging, stop making those loops that you listen to over and over... and just go with the flow. Eventually you'll develop the ability to do it naturally and keep that flow without having to worry about whether the next track is 'queued' or whether it 'fits' with what's being played. And let's be honest, most people listening to you live aren't trying to pick out bad transitions... they're trying to find the bits they love!
