Sigma and Viltrox in my opinion are knocking their lenses out of the ballpark. I have Viltrox and Sigma lenses for Leica, Nikon, Panasonic and Sony. They are getting better plus filling the areas where the camera companies are neglecting. It is a great time to be alive and enjoy the quality of using any equipment with a little hiccup here and there but overall pleasing. Cheers!
I am seriously considering this lens for my Z30. Would pair well with the DX 24mm f/1.7, giving me a lightweight and compact 35 and 85 equivalent lens combo at a very affordable price.
Hello arthur can you help me, what's better to get? Sony zve10mark1 or nikon z50? just wanna choose between these two. I will consider 75% of my choice based on your response
Great review. I've just been using the stock 16-55mm on my a6100 for years now for live streaming. I've wanted to upgrade to something in the nifty fifty range but I was specifically waiting for Viltrox or somebody to drop something exactly like this. I don't NEED a crazy durable lens, I just need decent colors and contrast, a decent depth of field with acceptable bokeh, and preferably at an affordable price. This looks like it's right up my alley.
It is a great lens, producing sharp and naturally looking images. Very impressed with the results I get from my Fujifilm X-T3, especially considering it cost me €160.
The quality is good enough for professional work. I have some Viltrox lenses. My main issue with them is the minimum focus distance that is generally not very close. I already have the Sigma 18-50 and the Tamron 17-70. Had this been f1.4 it would have been more tempting for low light situations.
On lenses with electronic focus rings, can you change the function of them? For example, if I'm using Aperature priority mode, can I change the focus ring to adjust the Aperature instead of manual focus? Likewise in Shutter priority, can I change it to Shutter speed?
Dear Arthur. It was great to see you on Mark Bennett's channel. Since you are THE Sony Apsc channel, I had a request to make of you. Could you please make a video of the ZVE10 2 with the 11mm f1.8 combo? How does the stabilisation work in dynamic active? Is it a real option for walk and talk kind of stuff and taking videos of kids running around? Thanks man!
No recommendation for a prime lens because it depends heavily on your prefered focal length. But i really would switch the 18-105 for the 18-135. You get more focal range and a smaller compact lens. It does not have the constant aperture of F4.0, but honestly, as long as you are not into filming, that shouldnt be an issue. Both of them apertures are not the widest anyways. But i am sure you would love the smaller size but more range. Also from my experience (i owned both lenses) the 18-135 has better image quality.
Personally for portraits I prefer a little less sharpness, its not very flattering with all the pimples and pores in their face, takes to much time afterwards to edit the blemishes. Only for landscapes I want tack sharp images. I definitely prefers the pictures of your wife taken with the Viltrox.
@@LindonSlaght i just wish all the sigma aps-c lenses where as sharp as the 56mm. i got the 30mm the second i compared both lenses there was no sharpness in the 30mm.
@@baku153 Agree, I've had sigma 56mm as first, after that I went for 16mm and 30mm and both of them was dissapointing comparing to sigma 56mm, especially 30mm. Sold 16mm and trying to sell 30mm for viltrox 27mm
In price range of sigma 56mm there nothing even close to sigma. The only sharper lens I used was sigma 105 DG DN Macro, this thing is so sharp that every other lens looks soft.
If only these lenses by Sigma, Viltrox, etc., had a AF/MF switch. That is the one thing, the one switch that should be mandatory. The Sigma is the best choice for its sharpness. Going backwards in focus quality is not a good way to go. Sigma really puts out a great quality lens. If you have to save $$$ for the Sigma, you will enjoy it more than the other cheaper lenses, cheaper in price and quality.

Would like a 23mm or so, also 1.8 at around the same price now that would be nice.
Love your reviews. ❤
New 40 2.5 great too
Wow, great info thank you!!

16-55 is one of best apsc lenses for sony and there no upgrade to replace it, you probably mean 16-50 or 18-55?
JUST (like last night) ordered the Fuji version of this. I think I'm cool with what you pointed out. :)

Great review
It’s quite amazing for the price in my opinion
I've the Viltrox 56mm 1.4, has the 1.7 improved on the old original? Great video, thanks.
Not a Sony, but a 4 times cheaper

whats the difference between viltrox 56mm F1.4 vs F1.7
How would you rank those lenses in terms of sharpness? I mean 50mm, 56mm Sony, Sigma, TT, Viltrox...
Greetings from Colombia 🇨🇴
Should I grab the viltrox or save up for a year or so to get the sigma?

I would go with the Sigma. great video as always thank you
I wonder why the price for emount is much higher than the other mounts? What about if compares to ttartisan 56mm f1. 8?

Better is meike 55mm ?
Woohoooo cheers from Singapore, this lens looks great. The 16mm F1.8 has been revolutionary. Loving what Viltrox has had to offer so far :)
I have a similar review of this lens, but I always like your reviews because it is always so detailed yet very easy to understand.
please compare the sony 16-55 f2/8 & sony 24-70
That lens hood is so short, it does not seem to actually shade the FOV of an APS-C 56mm focal length (28.7 degrees diagonal).
Don’t forget that the image is still cropped in, it just has a smaller image circle. Because of the crop, the hood should get cropped out of the image
Hey bought the sony a6100 and have the sony 16-50mm f3.5-5.6 and sony 18-105mm lens, what should i buy next, i really wanna get into primes lens

Sigma 30mm f/1.4. Cheap middle ground
It depends on what are you mainly taking photos for, but sigma 30 is probably the best all rounder
I’d keep the 18-105 and get a prime to help me shoot portraits, either the Sigma 56 ( or viltrox 56 ) or the viltrox 75 f1.2
This is what I’d do
I own Sigma 18 - 50mm f2.8 and Sony 15 f1.4. For me, it is enough.
I wish Viltrox make a 56 f1.2 to add to their f1.2 range would make the best 3 prime combo ❤
I am in dilemma on getting this or the 40mm aaaaaahhhh
The Viltrox 56mm 1.7 seems to be an ok Lens, but it is stupid to use a Lens Hood from a 20mm Lens !
Zeiss 55 f1.8 all the way
This is an apsc lens 🙄

never cheap out on the sigma 56. there is nearly or no lens as sharp as the sigma for this price.
Agreed. Bought mine a week ago and I'm in love.

Having 2 good lens is better than just having 1 really good lens
what the sigma?
Arthur please sponsor me with a lens for a Sony A6000 🙏
