though it is technically not a muslim ban, it is a restriction against many majority muslim countries. It also is there to make sure that people of a different religion (Trump specified christian, though the law is actually broader than that) than the majority (Muslim) in those countries can get in more easily. Therefore, it is accurate to call it a muslim ban. (And besides, the episode wasn't about the travel ban, and so it would be unnecessary to go through those details) Also, I am pretty sure that any that chooses to watch these videos is informed enough to know the details when something is referenced.

Except the courts have pointed out (numerous times really) that not a single terrorist that has done an attack in the United States has ever come from the countries that are in the ban (almost all of them came from Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the UAE) and that Donald Trump has even said that 'Persecuted CHRISTIANS' get preference and if they are from said countries that are part of the ban, they are the exception. That is enough evidence to suggest it IS a 'Muslim Ban' based on him even saying PRIOR to the election that he would implement a 'Muslim Ban' if elected.

Alucard13211 Actually it is a list of countries that governments cannot vet their citizens. The US doesn't actually carry out background checks, the countries the immigrants come from do. If I went from say France to the US, France would look at my history and give it tot the US to help decide if I may be a terrorist or criminal. In countries like Syria where the government has almost no control over half its claimed territory this could be pretty hard to do.
Oh and the list of countries were decided by the Obama administration and Trump then asked many departments if it needed any additions, they did not add any more countries.
And a 90 day ban is not long. You realise that time is to be spent to aid the US' ability to vet people from these countries?

    • @aboucard93

Democracy only works well in peacetime. In a war, you need to have a central authority, but also an Assembly/Parliament of some sort, to restrict the leader's power. In Poland-Lithuania, the country was invaded by the Ottoman Empire in 1672, and the Sijm (Polish Parliament) could not decide whether to raise war taxes, conscript soldiers, sign a peace treaty, any war plans ect. It was a huge mess, and the Polish King (later the hero at Vienna) could do nothing but lead his small army (which the Sijm couldn't agree on whether to increase or not) against over 100,000 Turks.

In a pure direct democracy each citizen votes on each individual law, but in a representative democracy they elect representatives to do that, and in a constitutional representative democracy there is also a constitution in place. And in a “federal constitutional representative democracy” there is a federal government overseeing a collection of state governments. I think you mischaracterized Socialism, 1:09, without nuance. Socialism is public ownership of capital, of means of production, and does not need to own _all_ property. It ranges from "Pure Socialism", which is closer to your description, to just short of Laisse-Faire "Free Market" Capitalism. We have some socialism in the U.S.A., both governmental (roads, some utilities) and non-governmental (cooperatives).
And I think you missed the root of both the nationalist and racist features of Fascism: insistence of conformity. There is a reason that the rods in the fasces are all straight, and of uniform length.

  • @bruno-vicious

I think you are missing the mark on what fascism is. Mussolini was part of a socialist party until he was ousted from that party. He still considered himself a socialist even afterwards. Think of this like Trumpism vs RINOS. They had similar beginnings but later diverged from eachother due to ideological differences. However fascism still considers itself the peoples party hence the bundle of stick symbolism. It's meant to represent a union party with nationalist characteristics. Without socialism fascism would not exist. So let's keep that in mind. Both socialism and fascism intend to centralize control to an autocratic dictator. In the case of socialism or at least maxism socialism is to one day achieve a stateless government known as communism. Ironically any body of power even a union power will always be a state (it's litterally in the definition of state) so it was a doomed endeavor even from the start. So it would inevitably end in a totalitarian state. That's why there is so many similarities between communism and fascism. Because they are both rooted in the same ideological movement. That said democracy differs because unlike socialism it isn't a union body that controls things but rather a body of representatives with a voice in a congressional process that debates ideas. This is what's known as a republic. Ironically there are forces trying to disrupt our democratic processes in favor of a more totalitarian movement. But what's probably the most ironic part of it though is that the demagogue preach and anti socialist movement however in practice they are more socialist in nature than they claim to be. I think it's important as well to make a distinction now between a social democracy and socialism. They are two completely different things. One is a democratic process in which legislation is made in the interest of public needs while the other has a more revolutionary approach that has no interest in democratic processes at all and put union/national need above the individual.

Property ownership as a qualification for voter enrolment was all but removed in 1879 extending rights to working-class leaseholders (renters). In 1893 when women’s suffrage was passed, NZ garnered international attention also, for not only being the first self-governing country in the world to grant the right to vote to all adult women, but also to abolish plural votes, endorsing “one person, one vote”
