  • What makes a fascist?
    -Rejecting democracy for a strongman
    -Stoking rage against cultural elites
    -Nationalism based on “superior” race
    -Glorifying strength and warriors
    -Disdain of women and LGBTQ+ people
    These five elements find exact expression in Donald Trump.

      If you remember the past then you’d remember that Fascism wasn’t the problem of the interwar years, it was the symptom. The problems are easily solvable, yet they remain unsolved as the world’s elite keeps moving further and further to the left, trying to destroy every last piece of western heritage. Hitler was right in that there was a problem, because there most definitely was major problems for Weimar Germany in the interwar years, and it very much looks like the USA Today (Hyperinflation, Radical Left-Wing Ideological Encroachment, National Humiliation, Political Chaos). Then again, Hitler was a visionary of his own ideology which had been influenced by his troubled youth and taught his racial hierarchy. Trump is far from Hitler: A successful businessman, thirty years older, never served in combat, wasn’t a very good politician, all of these things are the exact opposite of Hitler. Hitler was a failed artist, veteran WW1 soldier, Charismatic and Expert politician with a very big ideological agenda of his own.

Bididn released his. And I didn't think there was such a thing as a poor politician. They're all in the thick of it to make sure the tax laws are written for them and their rich friends. No mistake about it. Does anyone need a yacht tax exemption? Yup. The rich. Section 179 of the tax law. Gotta use your yacht at least 50% of the time for business. WHAT business? Beau of the Fifth Column explained why he was so successful predicting what the Republican party of the last 4 years was doing. He stopped asking, "what would a conservative do" and started asking, "what would a fascist do?" This fascist movement needs to end, and it will, either by our vote or by violence. Let's do what we can to make it the former so that the latter isn't necessary.

      "trumpanzees" (supporters who see, hear, etc no evil) support him because they share his 7 Deadly Sins characteristics. If you can stand to listen to one without showing judgement, they soon reveal what they have in common--the victim mentality, the "white privilege" of expecting a difference sense of justice to be applied to them, the exaggerated sense of their own worth, the willing to punish, and so on. People defend the most passionately, anything they feels is their identity.
      but, also, we didn't just "get trumped" in 2016. Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman made people like Boebert and MTG seem acceptable. The sense a businessman could fix gov't came to us before in the guise of GW Bush (also accused of fascism)--isn't it ironic those who think businessmen make good presidents always pick the nepotist who went bust?
      And there's also the social media algorythms--before the internet you got on a mailing list from the NRA that eventually got you John Birch Society trash in your mailbox. now you simply look up "vaccine denial" and you're down the rabbit hole.

      Communism is somewhat more defined; "commune" ism; everything held in common, which means nobody owns anything personally. The playbook for this is Thomas More's "Utopia" which sort of sounds appealing and equally terrifying. Of course it cannot work without forced labor; in capitalism labor is *compelled* by necessity but not usually forced. I think doing so is based on the corporate media’s squeamishness in assigning the “f” word to Trump and his supporters. A large part of this denialism is also based on an entrenched insistence that America is exceptional, that we are a remarkable and strong people, that a Hitler could not flourish here. Ironically, this claim to exceptionalism is a fascist trait, which has always worried me in regard to Americans’ potential to eventually embrace it. And here we are with the most recent polls indicating a dead heat between Trump and Biden. Unbelievable, but perhaps an inevitable pivotal moment given the fascist fissures embedded in the American character.

    I’d argue there’s also a call to naturalism. For fascists, their actions are justified because they seek to restore a supposed natural order to the county. This can be seen in the subjugation of woman and gender and sexually minorities, whom fascist often label as either naturally inferior or unnatural. It also explains the way fascism often overlays with eugenics and bloodline obsession because it needs to constantly prove there are innate, natural superiorities to the in-group. Through this lens, they can act like they’re policies are not bigoted but realistic and anyone who opposes them is denying the natural order of the world.

    • @Daemonworks
      @Daemonworks 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      It's more that there is one group of people, who are inherently superior. Different fascist groups will lean into different specifics for defining that group. It frequently involves a callback to a real or imagined golden age from which they are an unbroken, but tarnished descent, and a call to restore the former glory.
      For Italy, it was imperial Rome, for Germany, it was the batshit revision of norse/north german culture, for Trump it's just a nebulous sense of American exceptionalism and letting folks fill in precisely when they think America was great, and how it's fallen.
      The framing is rarely as important as "we were great, but we've fallen. Fallen because of those corrupting people and their degenerate ways! But I, and I alone, can restore that greatness, your greatness! The birthright those people stole from you! They may seem weak and powerless, constantly victimized by the majority, but don't be fooled, it's not that they're a convenient target that many of you already irrationally dislike, it's because they are secretly powerful, so powerful that only I can save you from them!"

If it's a society led by a strongman for the sake of consolidating society into a rigid, race and gender based hierarchy, then of course they're going to support said hierarchy in the sphere of economics too. Fascism in the economy translates into a rigid hierarchy with your boss having absolute authority and making decisions for himself at the expense of his workers. So yes, fascists will want to wield power in the same way as the corporate class and their interests align to the point where wealthy corporations will likely support fascism.
