I love it! Beautiful. A wonderful blast from the past. I knit in the 70's & 80's when I was in my teens & twenties. Oversized sweaters were my style. I'm always happy to find patterns that have a few size options and simple one page, large print, instructions. I started knitting again in 2021 in my sixties and was blown away by all the changes in pattern writing. I understand the change but I still seek out these old book patterns and trip down memory lane. Thank you for the great video.

80s mohair yarns are so vibrant und perfect, I just love 80s sweaters and wish I could knit them. I can only knit rectangles 😂, and very slowly at that. Absolute beginner and it would take me years to finish a sweater. But mind you, since I´m really skinny, at least the sizing wouldn´t bother me at all 😄. I love the book and your work!

I loved this! You did an amazing job and I love the way you mixed the different colours of mohair together. You’ve inspired me to pull out my old pattern books to find a new project. Agree that the old patterns were vague on instructions but I do find that modern patterns can go into way too much unnecessary detail sometimes.

This sweater is beautiful :~) I think I would style it with a long maxi skirt, maybe like a yellow velvet one! I wonder if vintage knitting pattern books left everything vague because they assumed people would know how to adapt the pattern already, since knitting was more prevalent back then? Like maybe the designs and patterns were meant more to inspire than instruct? I appreciate that modern patterns are more size inclusive, but I still find that I have to adapt patterns that aren't specifically made-to-measure because I need a larger size to accommodate my wideness, but those larger sizes don't ALSO accommodate my tallness~

Also, Petites. Like in the stores, my size is always up to me to tweak in patterns.

Love how it came out. I was just watching a video from Jackie at Croch80HD and she was flipping through some amazing 80s sweater books as well! She had an 80s crochet along in August and I did a fuzzy pink batwing sweater. Not real mohair but a similar look.

In the 1960's I was exactly average size , 5ft4 size 12 (34 ,26 , 36 ) , Twiggy was a 10 about 5ft 7 ? ( 32,24,34 ) , LLBean in the US is the only company that I have come across that actually has that size and it is called a Reg Miss . I have to look at Petite sizes now in the UK .
The main reason for this is food you could afford was boring , treats were occasional. Chocolate digestives and ice-cream on hi days and holidays only :)
80's jumpers were large , hid a multitude of sins !

The sizing issue of the 80 s “excuse” of it being a different time is factually correct. Quite literally, (USA stats) 13% of adults were “obese” in the 80s. Of those “obese” the majority were included by the “ large” size in patterns. In contrast, today, 42% of adults are obese, and a majority of those are above the size of “large” in the 80s.
Maybe it’s me, but when you say it’s shameful that those in the 80s just didn’t “ do better” to imply a prevailing ignorance or denial of different sizes, it’s factually incorrect and condescending on your part.
I enjoyed your video and admire your skills.

hey! thanks for the totally unnecessary statistics! this is a pattern with 4 stitches difference between a small and a large. that doesn’t even add up to a single size of grading, so even the largest size is still a small. I don’t think it’s condescending to say they could have offered some more variance in size, it would have been extremely easy to do and inclusive to a wider range of people.
