While Damageplan was promoting the album at a concert on December 8, 2004 at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, deranged fan (name deleated) climbed on stage and killed guitarist Dimebag Darrell and three others before being fatally shot by a police officer. Although no motive was found, some of (name deleted) friends reported that he believed that Pantera had stolen his lyrics and that its former members were attempting to steal his identity. Damageplan's manager confirmed there are unreleased Damageplan recordings, although they have not surfaced, and the band has been inactive since the incident.

I was a witness that night :( I always remembered it happening in the first verse, but those are the lyrics to the 2nd verse. So they played a little bit longer than I remember, but the whole thing was so abrupt...and just an absolute living nightmare :( You wouldn't happen to have the audio without the entire beginning of the song chopped out would you?

i was suposed to see them the next day in pontiac michigan. I never got my chance to see the legend live and it still stings to this day. RIP DIME, GETCHA' PULL

I wasn't there, but I know exactly how it went down! The irony behind the whole tragedy, the song is Breathing New Life, Pat is singing the line, "can you feel it building, feel the hair on the back of your neck, as the rush begins!" During those lines is when tragedy strikes and Dime is fading into the void!
I hate how this happened, but the way it happened was like is was fate, or meant to be!
I mean no disrespect, but it is how it is, just in case you're wondering!
RIP Dime, and those three souls who died trying to help him!
RIP Vinnie, your rocking in eternity with your brother and all those other legends before you!

This is still the saddest thing I ever heard, never met dimebag or saw him live but he is the reason I started playing guitar at 12 years old and still now 37 its so emotional to listen too 😢

At this timestamp Patrick Lachman starts telling some staff to call emergency services and hollaring of radio chatter was heard. Nathan proceeded to open fire at more people and injuring a few and holding a fan hostage, at the end of the tape; He was shot and killed by officer James Niggemeyer which an Inside Edition reporter called it, “a single shot that saves lives”
