Little Mac's f smash was down so it had less knockback. If it wasn't messed with he would have more horizontal knockback, and if it was angled up it would have more vertical kockback
@@geico105 Yeah for forward smash, specially at full charge, is meant pretty much with the idea to launch. That's why you do stun lock or like burst damage moves or rappid attacks in such technique to raise damage for easier launching.

Nerdy Gamer no, it's because multi-hit forward smashes deal damage to an opponent before the launching hit, so technically they aren't launching their opponent at zero percent. Notice how all the multi-hit smashes send the mii brawler past the zero percent arc.
For example, link came first because the initial hit dealt 27 percent, so the second hit launched the player as far as if they had taken that ammount, hence why the mii brawler landed almost exactly between the 0 and 50 percent arc.
Its also weird to see incineroar, who is possibly the fighter most feared for high damage single attacks, and ganondorf's DORIYAH beaten by link

It IS two hits, both of which don’t do that much compared to the others, and the second one requires a second input, and in bower’s case, if he is likely metal with no damage, he can take the first and shield the second, or the other way around with about anyone, it’s a little more balanced than you think... probably

You did the body blow (tilted down) fsmash for Little Mac instead of the regular one which would send farther at 0. Also, Peach/Daisy's fsmash should have been tilted down so they would get the racket (has higher knockback) instead of the golf club (has higher range).

Golf club has furthest horizontal KB. Tennis Racket is for damage (this didn't come up, but Frying Pan for vertical KB). You're right about Little Mac though.

In my opinion these lists would make more sense if they were based on damage.
It just doesnt make sense that the some smash attacks do way past no damage but ranked high because of their Knockback. And fighters who do a lot of damage are ranked low because of low knockback.
Not exactly. Quite often, Side Smash is a finishing move, which you would use for throwing opponent off-screen instead of only damaging him more.
Mac would win regardless, 40% charged F smash with a semi decent knockback would get most off the edge at a decent percent

You don’t use smash attacks for damage, you use combos for damage. The amount of damage you take from smash attacks over the course of a match is negligible compared to the amount you’ll take from short hop aerials, throw combos, tilts, etc. because smash attacks are much harder to land. When they do land, you’ll want one that kills at 70%, not one that just gives them more rage.
I think you forgot that Corrin is a tipper as well just like Marth.

The reason this could prove to be flawed, is that some smash attacks were charged more than others. Although knockback does have a limit, the amount of damage does not have a limit, and thus multihitting smash attacks will have more damage dealt by the time the hit that actually launches is landed.
This could be fixed by redoing all of the smash attacks but charging them all the way, so there aren't any damage output differences.
Pikachu was one spot under Chrom and that can't be. They were not charged the same way.

I thought the damage/knockback stopped increasing when the character stopped "shaking" and once they were standing still that meant they were at max charge, with any time after that just being for timing purposes.
Actually that bowsers kick seems to be the 4th strongest.

This test just represents base knock-back, which, in the grand scheme of things, is hardly important. Scaled knock-back and damage should be the real factors to test.

Yeah, this needs a slight redo if you ask me, you put Little Mac in the wrong spot. His F-Smash has 3 Variants, you did the one that did the most Damage, but had the least knockback, you gotta hold it straight forward with him for best launch, not slightly down or up. I would also say maybe redo Corrin because I don't find it fair you use the buzz saw effect of the charge to boost his range, I think it would be better to measure them with the tipper effect of their F-Smash like Marth. Overall, it's good video, and won't change many results, but you didn't do all characters proper justice.
If he cant use the buzzsaw, he cant use lucario aura, or link at zero percent, as those abuse character gimmicks.

Knockback is computed prior to the addition of percent, I believe. If so, link won only because the first hit put his target at 27%, granting his smash's knockback a huge boost in modifier over the other, single-hit smashes. This is also why Pichu was so high. They dealt several hits prior to the final, which dealt knockback on a damaged opponent versus one at 0%. Duck Hunt's is also inaccurate, as the multi-hit and pushback places his target nearly 2 meters away before sending them knocked, again at > 0%.
This inaccuracy could've been mostly resolved by turning on fixed damage.

Ok, this list makes exactly 0 sense.
Why would you ever base it off the knockback at 0? That makes the information way less applicable, and unfairly benefits multi hitting smash attacks, because they build percent before launching. Also, when Link is at 0, his F smash has an added projectile which builds even more percentage before launching. Put Link up even a single percent and he would drop like 10 places, change the ranking to something more accurate (kill percent for instance) and he would fall well down in the rankings.

Seeing that both knockback and damage given are factors that make up the "strength" of a move, what if we made a strength index that combined both factors?
Strength and Knockback have a directly proportional relationship, or:
S = cK, where S is Strength Index, and K is Knockback at 0% Damage, measured in units of length (according to the grid marks in training mode). "c" is a constant of proportionality, but we'll assume c=1, since Strength Index is an artifically constructed number.
Strength and Damage given also have a directly proportiomal relationship, or:
S=cD, where S is Strength Index, D is Damage as a percentage (not a decimal), and c=1.
Combining the two relationships gives us:
S=KD
Basically, you take the knockback distance and damage percentage and multiply them together to get a number that doesn't represent anything itself, but can be used to compare strengths of different moves.
Also this doesnt take into account knockback growth. Certain smash attacks may do a large amount of knockback at 0%, but due to low knockback growth do only slightly more knockback at 40%. Or opposite, having very low knockback at 0% but very high knockback at 40%. Idk how many characters would be significantly impacted by that factor, but its gotta be worth mentioning, id think.

Ok, I think I know how to take that into account, *but it's very complicated* :
1. Collect data values of knockback distance, opponent's initial damage, and change in opponent's damage (since knockback changes with opponent's damage)
2. Multiply each value of knockback with the corresponding CHANGE in opponent's damage together to get individual Strength Indexes (Distance×Change in Damage) at each separate value of opponent's initial damage.
3. Create a graph of Strength Index vs. Opponent's initial damage
4.Find a best-fit line (using a graphing program) and find the equation of the line
5. Take the integral of the equation from 0% damage to 999% damage as your limits of integration
6. Divide the resulting integral value by 999 to get the average value of Strength Index
If you do this, you will average the Strength Index value across all possible damage percentages, which gives a pretty good estimate of overall strength when accounting for different levels of knockback.
However, this method would be very tedious, as you would have to collect several values of knockback at different levels of damages for each character.
