I have the same experience with the locking and unlocking. Sometimes - Ill get out of the truck to get my kid out of his car seat - and the truck will LOCK my kid in the truck as I'm walking around to the rear passenger door to let him out. Kinda annoying tbh.
I really appreciate how clearly and professionally you speak, and the pace of your speach - too many youtubers, and even news casters, swallow consonants, smash words together, rush through it, act like they're talking to an idiot and just want it to be over. You truly come off crisp, polished, and like you actually care about what you produce. nicely done.
As a UX'er, your attention to detail and the way you express concerns/suggestions is so satisfying. Some of those suggestions are no brainers and honestly seems a bit silly they didn't catch them before. But for a V1 it seems incredible overall. Thanks for the review!
For iPhone users who are primarily capturing speech or talking to camera, go to Settings > Camera > disable the option "Record Stereo Sound" This is a big quality of life improvement for your audience. Stereo sound should really only be used if the intention is to record an ambient space. With speech, recording in mono keeps the listener's attention focused on the content, not the delivery (i.e. distracting changes in the stereo field caused by a change in the camera's position relative to the subject).
Agreed. I know marques will get better at iPhone filming as the channel grows and he gets more comfortable with it. I swear the video quality improved as it went on and he was learning new things :)
I really like this approach to the new channel, the main reason I watch the podcast is cuz it's interesting to hear what Marques has to say outside of a totally produced and scripted video, this takes that even farther with the smartphone filming and I'm here for it :D
But the audio quality like that is awful with wind noises and the road in the background. If you start a channel and use a smartphone the first rule is to get a external mic with windscreen if you go outside... Audio is the most important thing in a video and clearly I couldn't go through this one.

I saw a blue Rivian drive by the other day. I was so surprised because I’ve never seen one in person. The front end is instantly recognizable and honestly just makes these trucks look really good.
It's impressive how rivian is actually delivering these trucks, I've already seen like 5 on the road. I thought it would stay a concept when I saw it at a car cenvention back in like 2018
they obviously hand picked his order to be delivered ASAP -- as if he just "happened" to get it. Plenty of us have these on order and haven't taken delivery. Just more marketing wank.
I think you might benefit from a dedicated microphone, or at least a wind muff, attached to your phone. Love the idea of using a phone to do a channel! Best wishes!
@@NanoMine He's not doing a phone review, he's doing car videos. The video quality is fine but the content is not if you are having to listen to wind noise the entire time.
@@curtisbme Doesn't matter, is the raw experience. What if some phone has baat video quality and is unwatchable? You gonna ask him to add accessories for that too?
And no one who needs a truck for work should ever go by this video. The place I work at ever pickup truck I see is either a F250 or F350 or a Dodge 2500 or 3500 or a maybe a GM 2500 or 3500. These EV trucks are weak as heck.
I like the smartphone idea, although I would think an external mic (there's a lot of them for the iPhone) would improve the video a lot since the windnoise and shifts in audio channel is quite distracting for headphone users
I was watching on my macbook and it was bad there too. It brought the experience down. I know he's going for the makeshift effect but like you say, an external mic would cause less distraction.
Nah because start with external mic then gimball then … please stay with the smartphone only Marques no need to make it professional on this channel at all
I have nearly 5000 miles on my R1T and I think you covered all the points I noticed also. The monthly software updates are awesome; the newest features in the recent release make it even better for camping and daily driving. I love that it gets better all the time!
I'm also impressed with the interior quality and fit & finish, wow. The few items you mentioned can definitely be fixed with software updates like Tesla has done over the several years they've been building vehicles. Just goes to show how hard it is to build a brand new vehicle from scratch not to mention the machines that build the truck, supply chains, crazy amount of integrated software, regulations and obviously covid wrench that's been thrown into everything the last couple of years. Good on Rivian for persevering and delivering in such a difficult time. I may consider a Rivian or Lightning in the next couple of years but currently enjoying my F150 Powerboost hybrid .
what interiet quality??? You can year the cheapest possible hard plastic inside the car. You americans got no taste, just make it big, put big screen and u see quality.
I love how you're stepping away from your expensive studio cameras using a smartphone camera, this demonstrates just how far smartphone cameras have come!
I really like the rawness of this video. Especially with the truck locking multiple times. On the main channel that would have been cut, especially him struggling to open the bed cover.
Not a beast off road, take a look at the video trail mater put out where he had to weld one of these back together in the desert because a tie rod snapped, and all the commentary about how the undercarriage is too underbuilt for off road use.
This is the type of review I really appreciate. Most reviews are from someone that has had the vehicle for 30mis and only have the spec sheet from the manufacturer to go off of. They never really give you what the car is like to live with and they miss so much about how the vehicle actually functions in the real world. Thank you.
I'm genuinely super impressed with how well the first gen Rivians are being received. I'm super excited to see what they do next. Fingers crossed for a small car :)
I love the vlog-style feel of this video. I didn't know tech videos could still be interesting being shot like that. Also the informal scuffed commentary and the studio crews shenanigans makes it pretty wholesome ngl. Man knows what he's doing and he's fuckin dope at it.
I've owned my Rivian R1T for just over a week and concur with a lot of Marques says here. On the tonneau cover, several people has reported that lubricating the tracks and between the slats, with WD-40 "Dry Lube" is a good way to prevent it from breaking. I've done that and thus far had no issues. The operation of the cover is also much quieter. Another thing I've noticed is that the range is better than what Rivian has reported. I've got the All Terrain tires, but in Conserve mode and the lowest height setting, I'm getting ~2.47kWh, which translates to over 333 miles of range. There are others that have reported 360miles on the 21" all season tires.
I lubed my frequently since I live in a coastal environment since April and it finally bit the dust a couple of weeks ago. Hope you have better luck. Unfortunately I think it’s design issue as there should be bilateral motors rather than just the one on the driver side.
I really liked the vibe of this video. It felt really natural, and it felt *real*. Almost like we were there with you while you were showing us the new car. The polish on your other channels sometimes acts like a filter or layer between us and the content, and it's amazing content, but it does distance us. This felt like we were sitting in the passenger seat beside you and I loved that. I hope this channel is a huge success for you! p.s. I really wish we could buy RIvian in Ireland because I would buy this in a heartbeat.
Love the idea of starting a new channel using your smartphone! Can't wait to see you slowly upgrade to slightly better gear as more videos come out. Imagine MKBHD with a $10 lavaliere mic clipped to his shirt 😂
That’s been a shift in the past few years where non-car people are becoming interested because EV’s are a lot more technology based so they appeal to tech people. It’s pissing of boomers and I love to see it.
Hey Marques, I love the idea to film this whole channel on smartphones. One thing I might suggest (as a professional audio engineer and hobbyist video editor) is to turn off stereo audio recording when you’re talking, A voice being recorded by stereo microphones sounds really unnatural in a video and can make it more difficult for hard-of-hearing people to make out what you're saying. I believe there’s a setting in iOS to record audio in mono with videos. Just a little suggestion to think about for the future! Thanks for the great content!
This is what happens when you zero in on your passion/work field you stumble upon, to be able to order not just one of these beasts but both reflects the hard work you put in for all these years 👍🏾
The AC point is a common one, I think people forget that it’s doing double duty. It’s not just the cooler for the cabin, it can chill the coolant in the battery/motor loop, so it can sometimes be super loud even when the cabin is cool.
I think overall, this is one of the most promising and innovative vehicles of the past few years. I just really hope the company becomes profitable and will continue to make newer and better products in the coming years.
Definitely loving the raw feel of this channel, although some kind of shotgun mic and a wind sock would be good, the video quality is honestly surprisingly excellent. I love Android but have to hand it to Apple for how excellent ProRes on the iPhone is.
iPhone video is superb, but I would like to see Marques try a video with a S22 Ultra just for the sake of comparison. I wonder how different it would look, or how much more editing it would need to look the way he likes it.
@I Agree bro I said I wanted to see how Marques handles video from one. Watching someone else's review won't give me Marques' thoughts. While he has done reviews of the phone, he has not filmed a bunch of videos with it and told us how he likes or dislikes it. For someone who's name is "I Agree" you sure like to disagree and spark debate.
@I Agree are you not reading my entire comments or are you unable to comprehend certain words? I told you that his review does not cover actual daily use of the s22 ultra video recording capabilities. He has not used one extensively and edited with it to see what it's like.
@I Agree Well I just watched someone else's comparison of the video quality between the S22 Ultra and iPhone 13 Pro Max and mostly everyone in the comments agrees that the S22 Ultra looks better and I do agree with the general public opinion th-cam.com/video/AdVVCOLwN1s/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=DannyWinget
I like this low-key information dense style, however I do think using a lav mic or some other audio solution to keep your voice consistent as you move the phone around would go a long way.
The glass is working really well. Inside the truck I couldn't even tell you're near a highway. Edit: it seems for the "problems" of the truck are: 1. Actually small and you can live with! 2. Mostly fixable by software which is great! Honestly, not much to criticize about it which is amazing for a first generation product.
Thanks for the review. I have an R1S on preorder and it's supposed to be delivered first half of 2023 - we'll see. I did my First Mile test drive a couple weeks ago, and I agree with your thoughts on the drive and interior - great performance, well appointed (not luxury like a Mercedes, but definitely luxury for a sport vehicle), and very quiet (it seems to be a quieter drive than my buddy's Taycan).
An underrated thing I've taken note with MKBHD is just how well he speaks, man so little cuts and just straight talking but so informative and concised as well. Something I've been working on for awhile but really props to you for getting to this point! So proud fo you!
Same experience with my phone sliding around on the wireless charger in my supra, I found that adding one of those airtag stickers you see for pretty cheap on amazon has worked wonders. Of course not so much if you're an android user unless you add one to your case or phone, but for iphone users, it's a godsend. Before my phone would shift very far off the charger with moderate acceleration, now it's glued to it.
I really want to like the Rivian. It's got some really excellent features and looks sweet. But I want it scaled down by at least 15%, and they have to stop putting everything behind layers of touch interface! That's fine for navigation. You shouldn't be moving when plugging in a destination or planning a route. But aiming the vents? Or controlling the wipers?! Those should be physical, easily accessible controls. ALWAYS. Beyond the usability and driver safety issues, how much is it gonna cost when one of those vent-aiming motors fails? Dashboard work is never cheap, but adding in those electronics is just dumb and gimmicky (not to mention unnecessary weight).
I’m on the opposite side of things. I think it’s too small and I would like at least a full size to get more bed space. I hate buttons and like everything on a screen. Makes cleaning and wiping everything down super easy. Buttons just look ugly and like clutter to me now. I like that my Tesla doesn’t have an instrument cluster, makes driving at night really comfortable with no lights or glare in front of your face. Looking forward to getting rid of the stocks on the steering wheel. My last 20k miles have been about 99.9% on full self driving beta so my experience of driving and having everything behind layers of touch interface has been really good. I’m sure if I was actually driving with no assistance like a regular car I might think differently. Really wish the R1S was bigger and could be at least an 8 seat option to fit my family. Rivian does appear to be making solid cars. Looks like software needs some tweaking tho but OTA updates should fix a lot of those issues.
Yeah not having buttons is a deal breaker for me with any vehicle. Honda tried it and the next model went right back to physical. When he said you had to angle the vents through the screen It lost me. That's ridiculous and having to fool with the screen instead of buttons or knobs is inconvenient and arguably dangerous.
I think new laws should be introduced take make it mandatory to have physical controls for the most needed functions like wipers and climate control. This is gonna cost lives in the most unfortunate cases.
Great feedback! All trucks for the most part have an issue with the rear backup camera being blocked with the tailgate down but your thought on changing to the bed camera is a good one, although may be an issue if you have stuff in your bed obstructing the view. I really like what you said about the tailgate not having a spot for your hand to close it. I think the people who buy that truck won't find themselves using the bed as often as I think typical truck users though. They may opt to have the tonoe cover always open or never even roll it back since they just throw groceries in the back or in the gear locker. It's still a cool truck and I'm glad to see it in the marketplace.
The button to "eject" the tailgate to lower nicely on gas struts is genius... the decision to omit a handle on the tailgate itself is bizarre. Usually when an EV has some weird "counterintuitive" feature, it's for aerodynamics, like Tesla's retracting door handles. Or it adds extra technical complexity and things to break but the pay-off is that it looks super cool, like Telsa's retracting door handles. Or it adds expense, technical complexity, and if it breaks your car is unusable, but it sets the car apart in the market, like the Falcon Doors on the Model X and Tesla's retracting door handles... but not having a handle for the tailgate here just seems like the lead designer won an argument and probably now wishes they hadn't. As for the reversing camera - blocking with tailgate down is surely a feature, not a bug, right? Yes yes you can think of instances where you want to back up a little with the tailgate down, but 99% of the time you throw it in R with the tailgate down, you'll be like "whoopsie! Forgot the tailgate!"
If you go into settings on your iPhone and in general, language & region, change to Celsius and back to Fahrenheit, the cabin temp on your Rivian app should now display in Fahrenheit. Love my R1T, but wish they’d also push a software update to make nav volume independent of media volume.
I have had ours for 3 weeks now. Some things I would like improved - the wireless charging, the lack of specific charging levels, the locking / unlocking is annoying, when you're right to it. But their updates have improved the car, so I can't complain.
So, I don't know how I'm just now finding this channel but I already love the light production value. There's something nice about it just being on a smartphone.
Impressive first vehicle, and solid recommendations. I especially agree about switching the backup camera when the tailgate is down. They should have gotten that kind of feedback pretty fast from fleet drivers.
I've been admiring the Rivian for a while now. I'm a truck guy and a gas guy. I've never owned an electric vehicle, but when Rivian came out, I was reconsidering. If and when I get a chance to buy a truck and I have $80K to spend, it will be my first choice.
So I finally decided late last year on my new rig, and I decided on the Rivian R1T dual with large pack. And OMG is the best vehicle I've ever experienced. The build quality is 100% plus ride is fantastic. All the software updates are value add. Pls consider going for a demo drive in one.
As many of the small gripes you had, they're all really good things to nitpick. All things that Rivian can fix with software updates for sure. As for things like the tonneau cover, I chalk that up to this is generation one of the truck and along with things like the rear camera placement, things that can definitely improve on in the second generation of the truck and any other vehicle they eventually come out with. I've seen one in person at my work so far and I think the looks are fantastic. Don't think I'd have one currently even if I could afford it, but maybe in the future when they get into the swing of things with the little issues you noticed, then I can look into purchasing something of this caliber. Thanks for the video!
This is awesome - love the raw and honest nature of the video. One suggestion if possible: Would you consider using different phones so that we can get a good idea of their real life video capabilities? Like the next ride you cover, maybe use a Flip 4 etc. Keep up the great work. Crazy how far cars and phones have come just in the last 10 years!
Man. Nice to see a video that is less about clicks and more about the actual functionality of the thing being tested. I'm sold and I self-subscribed without being called to do it...
For a brand new company and it being their first product, I think it came out pretty well. Pretty understandable to have teething problems, and hopefully they patch in the useful things you suggested. As the Cybertruck continues to get delayed, I am giving more and more thought to the Rivian...
Because they are aiming it at someone like MKBHD who does not know the first thing about trucks. No one who needs a truck for real work like heavy haul would buy an EV truck every. They would by a F250, F350, Ram 2500 or Ram 3500. Those have far more power and range.
It looks uncannily like the Thorton Mackinaw MTL1 from Cyberpunk 2077. The videogame truck looks more retro (despite being from 55 years into an alternate future, haha) in the front end, but the 3/4 profile is wildly similar. This isn't a criticism - since it implies we can ratrod our Rivians to look like Panam's Warhorse... now THAT'S a tough looking truck.
Such a gorgeous vehicle. I fell in love with Rivian when I saw Long Way Up. I knew this company was onto something when I saw these adventure vehicles in action. I love the Rivian R1S. Unfortunately, both models are way outside of anything I could ever afford, but that doesn't keep me from enjoying every Rivian I see in passing. I can't wait to see where Rivian goes from here. I have a feeling that, if they can continue to actually deliver their vehicles to everyone who pre-ordered, the company will grow, and future models will be even more amazing. It will be interesting to see how the EV SUV and Truck market develops, now that Chevy and Ford have announced their commitment to EV as their future. Beautiful truck, and I hope you enjoy your new, beautiful rig!
Chevy and Ford are aiming it at people who don't know a thing about trucks. No one who needs a real work truck is buying an EV truck with it's low tow and haul power.
Thanks for all your honest insights. I´ve always said that EV is not for everyone. And I think the government and media in general are making a mistake pushing every single person to purchase an EV. This is my take: EV is for people that are early adopters (usually are aware that new tech is not always perfect), people that do not depend on the car for long trips that are time sensitive, people that mostly take short city trips, people that can mostly charge at home (fast charging is sometimes more expensive than regular gas). EV is not for people that live in remote areas, people that are impatient, people that are tech challenged, people that don´t have a way to charge at home.
To be honest, this is a great first step for Rivian into making great electric trucks. I cannot wait to see what the future holds especially with the fact that its delivery is way better than the Cybertruck🤣🔥
Glad to see your own car channel. You should request a Chevy Bolt (EV or EUV) for quick review. The most affordable and attainable EV in the country. Excited for future car content!
I had my R1T for 5k miles. So far so good love the truck. Nothing broke including the tournoe cover. Great observation about the all purpose mode and sport. Big difference it turns this thing into a beast with rough ride. Or very composed fast truck.
@@kk56111 My friend's brand new Ford edge did after 2k. 🤣 so very possible. And my other friend's R1T after 3k. 😵💫But both were fixed and back on the road.
I feel like they should have different air-conditioning settings you can save as quick settings. I usually want the same 2-3 modes and having to manually adjust to the same 3 states is the biggest hassle whilst driving. Idk if any other car manufacturer does this but lmk if there is! Edit: maybe even a single button to toggle between your configurations?
Bi-directional charging needs to be a standard feature for any new EV going forward. Period. VTG (Vehicle to Grid) can do so much more than just simply provide a battery backup source for your home like the Ford Lightning advertises. I don't think Rivian can add this via an update since there is a hardware requirement, but they should consider it in future plans. I still have a Cyber reservation, and honestly, if Tesla doesn't include it I'll be looking at the Lightning instead. If you decide to go with any standard metric on your reviewing of EVs going forward, I urge you to highlight when manufactures do this right VS omit this needed feature.
I'm a bit ignorant on this. Does doing that deteriorate the batteries at all? If it doesn't, then I'd be willing to do that as long as I get something in return like say a reduced rate for charging. But I really do want V2H backup with my Rivian. That's something that is supposedly coming.
@@rvboyett it all depends on how the batteries are setup to start. What kind of maintenance, monitoring, and type of cooling. Most modern EVs have some sort of liquid cooled pack, so as long as the software is setup to not discharge the pack beyond a certain percentage or rate, there would be minimal effect to the lifespan. There is an added cost to the hardware in the vehicle that's required for this setup, and the type of charger you would need for say at your home if you wanted your EV to run also as a Powerball. BUT, you have the potential of saving some money in the long run with your power needs and get added benefits of driving around a more usable power source for more than just driving.
Great material. That's the kind of feedback I really like as a basis for "living with" a vehicle. Those are daily interactions that define the experience. The initial "touch points" designers try to accommodate. Thank you, for being so "constructive" with your criticism. I hope to develop such mannerisms in my future.
I’ve heard the trunk cover is actually one of the first things to break. Especially if you’re using it like an actual truck, dirt and grime gets in there and it’ll stop about half way. Just a forewarning.
Man....Marques never misses. At this point, this man could tell me that oxygen could use some new features and I'd probably try to upgrade oxygen itself. Keep the 🔥coming, brother!
I think I prefer the look of the f150 lightning. The problem with none Tesla cars right now is there isn’t stable support for charging. So unless you have charging at home I don’t recommend getting a none Tesla ev at this point in time. Eventually when the charging network matures and you no longer have charging issues such as: speed, availability, and consistency, then I would have no problems recommending these. My fav car review channels right now are redline, the topher and auto trader - Rory is amazing. Keep up the good work! 👍
Having owned a tesla for a few months now I have only ever charged while not home twice. One was to test the speed and process. The other for a 200 mile trip. I charge at home every day using a standard 110 outlet with the mobile charger. I get about 25-30% charge from 6:00PM-7:30AM. Unless you travel every month, it’s not a big deal.
My apartment told me all the chargers in the garage worked and it turns out only 1 kinda does. So I have to use superchargers. Already annoyed buy the lack of superchargers in the DC area, can't imagine using another electric car charging network. Which sucks, because I'm planning on selling the Tesla, and probably get a Bolt EUV
Hey MKBHD. Quick note on your terminology, double pane windows refers to when their is an air gap filled with insulating gas between the two panes. Hard to tell from the video, but it looks to me like there's a material sandwiched between the two sheets of glass. If so, then that is laminated glass (single pane). This would make sense to me, since laminated glass is excellent at sound attenuation (better than double pane glass).
Great video and excited for the new channel. I am really impressed with the truck, looks, options...etc just very hesitant on the charging network option in my area. Also, not being able to use the truck to power the home (like the lighting) or larger tools is a bummer. And the entertainment system kills me, please just add android auto and carplay.
For a new company, The stuff that could be improved is not that bad and some of them like you said could be a simple software update. I like this truck. I would get one. I think I have seen like 3 here in So Cal.
I've got two things in mind when I am looking at a truck: 1) can it tow, 2) can it carry a kayak on top. Electric trucks have enough torque to tow just about anything, but I'd be interested in hearing how the range changes when towing a trailer. Your R1T doesn't look set up for carrying stuff on top-the roof is all glass and you have cargo bars on top of the bed (weird choice). Do they have tall bars you can install and/or roof bars to carry larger items?
The idea of using phones as the main camera is great, though you probably need a dedicated mic anyway just to help with minimising background noises and such It would be cool to hear your thoughts on concept cars as well as the newly released cars, Hyundai in particular has some absolutely gorgeous 80s inspired concept cars which I'd love to see you cover
With no handle on the back to grab to close the tailgate, you'd think they would make the button dual-purpose to also close an opened tailgate with another single push. I must be old, as I see the front design as boring and the screen is way too big. At least the overall design looks like my 2005 Frontier, but it looks like they pushed it out the door too soon without enough real-world beta testing.
If you wanna be successful, you most take responsibility for your emotions, not place the blame on others. In addition to make you feel more guilty about your faults, pointing the finger at others will only serve to increase your sense of personal accountability. There's always a risk in every investment, yet people still invest and succeed. You most look outward if you wanna be successful in life.

I have the same experience with the locking and unlocking. Sometimes - Ill get out of the truck to get my kid out of his car seat - and the truck will LOCK my kid in the truck as I'm walking around to the rear passenger door to let him out. Kinda annoying tbh.
In many cars you can just manually lock and unlock the door from inside, not sure if the electronic way of doing it is for better or worse
I read it in your voice for some reason.

Very helpful; thanks!
What he said
Not a great advice. mono speech track is much harder to comprehend than a natural stereo.
Another thing that someone should invent is a wind screen for audio, if hasn't been invented already.

It's impressive how rivian is actually delivering these trucks, I've already seen like 5 on the road. I thought it would stay a concept when I saw it at a car cenvention back in like 2018

Yes, very much this.
+1 for this. I just posted a comment about how the stereo audio recording on the iPhone can be really distracting for trying to listen to a voice.
I was watching on my macbook and it was bad there too. It brought the experience down. I know he's going for the makeshift effect but like you say, an external mic would cause less distraction.
this. audio is terrible
100 percent charge to 0ish, whats the actual mileage you see per charge. Or from 80 to 20 percent? (Good battery life).
Hoping it's better than other first time manufacturers.I'm keeping the faith!

I really like the rawness of this video. Especially with the truck locking multiple times. On the main channel that would have been cut, especially him struggling to open the bed cover.
Despite its shortcomings this seems like a super solid first attempt. The R2T and certainly the R3T will work out the kinks and be a beast of a truck
The R3Ts need to be cheaper. It would help a lot in mass distribution

I have been in the auto industry for over 25 years, and I enjoy your take on things. I subscribed, and am looking forward to future content.
If it's breaking on so many trucks, hopefully they will recall the part, and replace it with a better design.
My understanding is that Rivian is working on a redesign of the tonneau covers.
WD-40 is not a lubricant
@@SuperiorToiletTissue yes it is, it’s literally one of its uses as stated by the brand.

Why hello there Biffa!
That’s been a shift in the past few years where non-car people are becoming interested because EV’s are a lot more technology based so they appeal to tech people. It’s pissing of boomers and I love to see it.
I live how non biased he is. Clear and precise. The best for a reason.
I absolutely love that you’re doing car reviews now! These videos being recorded primarily on phones will be pretty interesting as well.
I might even suggest just using a lav for your voice, and then the stereo microphones on the phone for sound effects and B roll
Shut up
Completely agree. Watching this on my home theater the voice fluctuates from channel to channel and picks up way too much wind noise.
I would say use a diety d4 duo as those have the front and back mic but its still a mono audio track
Maybe he should add voices in post prod
I love the in depth and nitpicking review. Vehicles are expensive so it's nice to see the great and the improvements
Here in Australia if you complained that your super-fast-cooling AC was "really loud from outside the car", you'd get laughed out of the pub.
Audio sounds fine on my iPhone 12 Pro.
iPhone video is superb, but I would like to see Marques try a video with a S22 Ultra just for the sake of comparison.
@I Agree Well I just watched someone else's comparison of the video quality between the S22 Ultra and iPhone 13 Pro Max and mostly everyone in the comments agrees that the S22 Ultra looks better and I do agree with the general public opinion

I like this low-key information dense style, however I do think using a lav mic or some other audio solution to keep your voice consistent as you move the phone around would go a long way.
The glass is working really well. Inside the truck I couldn't even tell you're near a highway.
Edit: it seems for the "problems" of the truck are:
The steering wheel looks like it came out of a 1986 Chrysler Lebaron.
Rivian nailed the interior design really well. Kudos to their design team.
I have faith in Rivian to keep improving because I've been impressed with what they have done as a startup, but also because they are making changes.
An underrated thing I've taken note with MKBHD is just how well he speaks, man so little cuts and just straight talking but so informative and concised as well. Something I've been working on for awhile but really props to you for getting to this point! So proud fo you!
Well, he's not improvising. Things are scripted and edited. If he makes a mistake, he cuts it off.
Lol
You mean you don’t like Phillip defranco style cuts?
This actually looks better than the Cybertruck. I also haven't seen many red R1Ts, great choice.
It’s just nice to see more EV options outside of Tesla.
Hyundai : Am I a joke to you?
🤣
I just hope that Tesla continues to release new features for other cars to implement as well.
@@joshuavoss1387 we need less people like you on the road. Take the metro if you can... people who don't want to drive are the most dangerous
Buttons that show state based information should always be in the vehicle. Always...
Agreed.
Love my R1T, but wish they’d also push a software update to make nav volume independent of media volume.
works!
That's a badass truck for sure! I can't wait to see other manufacturers take on their electric truck lines, especially ones like the Tacoma.
I think he said he's going to use his daily driver as the camera, so hopefully it will be different phones every couple of videos
Man. Nice to see a video that is less about clicks and more about the actual functionality of the thing being tested. I'm sold and I self-subscribed without being called to do it...
Seeing this truck in person, I was shocked by how wide it is. Wider than most standard pickups I've seen
For a brand new company and it being their first product, I think it came out pretty well. Pretty understandable to have teething problems, and hopefully they patch in the useful things you suggested.
As the Cybertruck continues to get delayed, I am giving more and more thought to the Rivian...
CT is set for Austin 2023. Rivian may be Out of Biz in 2 years or bought by VW.
@@kevn99 CT ain’t happening. I’ll believe it when I see it on the road.
Because they are aiming it at someone like MKBHD who does not know the first thing about trucks. No one who needs a truck for real work like heavy haul would buy an EV truck every. They would by a F250, F350, Ram 2500 or Ram 3500. Those have far more power and range.
Not to mention the rivian actually seems to operate like an operational truck instead of a huge, ugly, killing machine
I swear the colours are so gorgeous and this whole car looks like a life-size toy car 😍

I feel very privileged! Hope you review the new Lexus RZ 450 EV soon!
Thanks for all your honest insights. I´ve always said that EV is not for everyone. And I think the government and media in general are making a mistake pushing every single person to purchase an EV. This is my take:
EV is for people that are early adopters (usually are aware that new tech is not always perfect), people that do not depend on the car for long trips that are time sensitive, people that mostly take short city trips, people that can mostly charge at home (fast charging is sometimes more expensive than regular gas).

It does this to a certain extent with "profiles". I think it keeps my wife's profile and adjusts it for her when she drives.
@@TheBowerbird that's really cool! Hope they could expand on it
Bi-directional charging needs to be a standard feature for any new EV going forward.
I hope to develop such mannerisms in my future.
thank you Rivian for using reasonable temperature units!
Touch screens are cool, but I will never buy a car without physical volume/fan and temp knobs.
Nice trunk, my Ninja! Congrats and keep up the great tech reviews... You're the BEST. One! ☝🏿🖤
Huh I never knew you yanks called "double glazing" a "double pane window"....
Those spotted lantern flys are getting bold… love the truck can’t wait to get mine.
When are we getting a Rivian R1S refresh review??
"Or if you're wearing a ring." 👀
MKBHD wedding incoming??? 😂😂
I noticed that to and was like "You trying to tell us something, Marques?
@DDiyorbek it's at about 3:59
I was thinking about buying Rivian R1T until your review. Many Thanks!!!
The idea of using phones as the main camera is great, though you probably need a dedicated mic anyway just to help with minimising background noises and such
It would be cool to hear your thoughts on concept cars as well as the newly released cars, Hyundai in particular has some absolutely gorgeous 80s inspired concept cars which I'd love to see you cover
Nah, sound was totally fine.
Im impressed Rivian did so well on their first car, but the F150 lightning seems far more robust, affordable and able to get service if you need it.
until you use it as a truck
Love this guy!! He always answers the questions that I have.
I have a feeling that Marques might be even better at reviewing cars
With no handle on the back to grab to close the tailgate, you'd think they would make the button dual-purpose to also close an opened tailgate with another single push. I must be old, as I see the front design as boring and the screen is way too big. At least the overall design looks like my 2005 Frontier, but it looks like they pushed it out the door too soon without enough real-world beta testing.
This guy is so clutch and a GOAT with his TH-cam!
Sure! Is a better way to counter this foreseen inflation, because all this wars everywhere are politics.
Living in one's "comfort zone" is a contributing cause to the plight of young people.
Fear is a total failure when you give up Ambitiousness; and Success is a game of dice, you throw your $coin while your investment decides your goal.

TRADING ON DEMO ACCOUNT IS JUST LIKE TRADING THE REAL MARKET... CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT OR AT
LEAST ADVICE ME ON WHAT TO DO?
Same here, my portfolio has been down the drain
while I try trading, I don't just know what I did wrong.
@Perikles Papoulias Wow!! I'm just shocked you mentioned and recommended Expert Charity Combs. And I thoughts I'm the only one trading with her.
@Perikles Papoulias I stumbled upon one of her clients
testimonies and decided to try her out.. l'm
expecting my third cashout in 2days.
I always get good returns when i let her handle my
account. As a beginner this is what you should go
for to avoid incurring losses.
As a beginner i am so lucky to have a mentor like
Mrs Charity Combs. I haven been so successful under
