    Upwork takes money in connect
    Upwork takes money 10 % from work
    Upwork takes money in bank transfer
    Upwork even take from w2 tax
    It's just exploitation of freelancers, clinet post job and most of time never hire, lost of purchased connect.

    • @v-tiful
      @v-tiful ปีที่แล้ว +4

      and some of them are scams so most of ur connects are going to waste and they aren’t regulating it, also the amount of money they are taking from you when most of the jobs are $8 you’ll have nothing left

    I've worked as a client and also a freelancer. I think having more restrictions for clients to post jobs would streamline the experience. There's no cost or penalty for creating jobs currently, so you can create things you aren't that serious about just to see what kind of response you get. Then on the other side there is an expense for the freelancers to apply, and then they won't hear back / get discouraged / run out of connects on things that weren't very promising anyways. If clients had to pay to post gigs, even a small amount, I think it would solve a lot.

      Do you think they are s2pid? that's an advantage for upwork to milk freelancers.

    • @scoogins
      @scoogins ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point. Employer creates job that they aren't super serious about, freelancers spend connects to apply. It's just creating money out of thin air basically.@@punotomalf6408

      And that is why you can sometimes see the offerings where the client took no further actions after posting. Sometimes they post the same job on Upwork and Fiverr, if the response is better on Fiverr, they don't even bother to close the job on Upwork which is a bummer for freelancers. I believe that if your proposal hasn't been viewed and you happened to boost it, then Upwork will refund the connects you used to boost the proposal, but only once the jjob offer is closed or something like that :D

      As a client on Upwork, I absolutely DO have to pay. Every time I pay a freelancer, Upwork charges me a percentage on top of the freelancer rate. And believe me, it adds up. Upwork charges on both ends of a transaction.

    Thank you for the alternatives. I'm checking them out.
    I'm not a beginner there, but it's def not a place for such. The constant complains of new(ish) freelancers getting their accounts deleted for no reason is one example.
    In fact, when I was a fresh registered freelancer there, they cancelled my account.
    But they didn't expect me to come back at them with a threat of taking them to small claims court. And just like when you step on a cat's tail and the cat screams for heaven clouds, so was the scream heard from Upwork management. The troglodytes had my account immediately restored.

    • @ColleenCavolo
      @ColleenCavolo  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh wowwwww smart thinking! I agree though. It’s hard to rely on Upwork as a sustainable source of freelance work. The only thing it has going for it is it’s well known amongst clients and companies so there’s a chance you could find a good gig on there, but at what cost? 🙄🫠 thanks for your insight!

    It makes zero sense. If you need money to apply for jobs, then you have limited opportunities to find the jobs you're searching for. Meanwhile clients automatically have less of a chance to be matched with workers who are adequate for the jobs they need, so everyone goes home unhappy. Eventually nobody wants the service anymore.

    Building wealth involves developing good habits like regularly putting money away in intervals for solid investments. Financial management is a crucial topic that most tend to shy away from, and ends up haunting them in the near future.., I pray that anyone who reads this will be successful in life!!

    Thank you for your video.I think the freelance market will evolve and change to accommodate market forces. The balance between service and demand will ebb and flow. Other forms of freelance work like construction contracting are not free. Most contractors pay for bid's, weather they get the work or not.

    • @DancingDuckProductions
      @DancingDuckProductions ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The fact that there is even a possibility of getting scammed while trying to get a job is huge red flag for the entire industry not just this one website. Lots of scams going on right now, or people trying to walk back what they originally agreed to pay.

    • @CuratedVibes
      @CuratedVibes ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DancingDuckProductions it's really upsetting. And the media makes it seem like workers aren't applying and don't want to work. There are so many of us applying to hundreds of jobs daily.

    • @WellingtonDuarteCanal
      @WellingtonDuarteCanal ปีที่แล้ว

      I also think that Upwork itself is behind the scams. I found out where I live, Brazil, some job platforms were adding many fake openings, so workers in order to apply for them needed to pay the platform to have a "special" account, like Upwork's connects. That makes sense, because if a platform has many "jobs", that will call workers attention. The time you spend writing proposals, would be better to use it to build something like your own business or try a regular job. Upwork looks like a slavery place. You have 0 guarantee and compete with the whole world.

      Great question!!! Hard to say bc I started slowly when I was a kid, learned how to edit in high school, got better at editing in college, and started professionally editing in my late 20s. So in THEORY it doesn’t take that long to learn to edit, but you need the right initiative to jump into projects and take on clients to get you from “Able to edit” to “can get paid to edit”
