The history of Kalimari Desert's tunnel amuses me.
MK64: You can go through the tunnel if you want. It could save quite a bit of time, but it's risky and probably won't count the lap.
MK7: The tunnel is now an out-of-bounds area and you are unable to enter it.
MK8DX: _You're taking the tunnel whether you like it or not._
You were able to enter the tunnel in 7. I don’t know where you got that from.
@@tolstartheking Okay, you can _technically_ enter the tunnel. But the game only lets you go about ten feet in the tunnel before you void out and Lakitu places you back on the track. This is in contrast with MK64, where you can follow the tunnel all the way through.

I'm so glad that someone else is into all the background details. Those matter much more to me than the individual textures (even if the textures themselves are important). Mushroom Gorge has such a beautiful background and I can't believe how pretty they made it considering the regular track isn't great visually in my opinion.

One thing I like about this pack is that they actually updated coconut mall so the cars move again. Even though it's not exactly like before, it at least makes that end part of the lap more interesting again
They also added a little patch to item boxes now. They respawn in 0.75 seconds now. It used to be significantly longer. It’s a huge change to online play. This also affects battle mode for some reason.
I’m pretty sure they fixed the bad respawns in Ninja Hideaway too

4:02 Wario Colosseum from Double Dash is one of those tracks that is very loopy, lots of curves and turns here and there and an all around very fun track to race on. I REALLY want them to bring it back, especially with anti gravity it could be a ridiculously fun track to race on. I'm honestly quite shocked it was not in the base game for Mario Kart 8 or even the first two DLC packs because I thought it would have been the best track to take advantage of anti gravity.
Not the one that could be described as rainbow road but slightly easier or is that the one that kind of looks like the excitebike track? Because I'm pretty sure the one that looks like the inside bike track is already in Mario kart 8.
@@bland9876 You're thinking of Wario Stadium from DS. Wario Colosseum is from Double Dash on the GameCube in which the entire track is suspended in the air inside of a Roman Colosseum and the track is made completely out of metal grates and road and has the giant orb shaped metal cage in the center. In a sense, yes it's design is somewhat similar to Rainbow Road with how much winding twists and turns the track has.

I would second that. MK Wii had Waluigi Stadium and DK Mountain, lot of verticality, lot or twistyness, really added a lot to that game for me. I’d be delighted to sacrifice a couple of other MKTour city tracks for both of those classics.
@OpenThisSideUp But Waluigi Stadium already got remade in Mario Kart Wii and we already got a Waluigi track in the Booster Course Pass with Waluigi Pinball. I think Wario Colosseum deserves it much more, and honestly I thought it should have been in Mario Kart 8 from the very beginning as it could have utilized anti gravity very well to make a lot of crazy twists and turns going vertical and upside down. I really feel like they would be seriously disrespecting that track by not bringing it back and it deserves a lot more love than it gets because it is a ridiculously fun track to race on.
6:24 that's actually very normal for mariokart but you usually don't see them this close up or at this angle so yeah it looks weird. but in stuff like Mario Kart Stadium for example, the spectators in the stands even close by are all sprites
Though the spectators in the stand were never *THAT* big, they were actually quite small.

I'm pretty sure the base game did this too though, since it makes sense. You're going so fast that to make sure the scenery doesn't get lost they scale everything else up.

In one hand I agree, in the other... that's the charm with the snes tracks, they are... simple and... I don't know, snessy...
My guess, is they *can*, they just want to be careful trying to balance those who want the old tracks "mixed up" and those who just want them as they are, but in the MK8 engine so it looks better and nothing more. I know personally, there are some of the old tracks where i DONT want them to add the vertical stuff, and to just keep it classic.

Hopefully not so much liberties that the track bears no resemblance other than the theming and music. As someone who grew up with Super Circuit, Snow Land and Ribbon Land upset me. They're nice tracks on their own but they don't take me back to the GBA game at all.
One thing that really makes me love Wave 2 more than Wave 1, is that the courses look so much more pretty!
Like you can tell that they put more time into the lighting and textures this time and it shows, it's just so nice to look at and that makes it funner to play through ^^

I like how you basically reacted “that’s it” with Kalamari desert, because the bit on the tracks is new addition that you didn’t know about, so you didn’t get the shock value of that. I also like that you liked snow land as it’s own track without the insane shortcuts, the thing that most people seem to have gravitated towards
6:29 the spectators have always been 2d but they were placed at an angle that you couldn’t tell they were 2D.
They were also quite small to hide that they were 2d more.

I suspect there's a tad bit of missing code somewhere that was supposed to turn them a bit to face the driver so you couldn't tell as easily. But yeah, they're always 2d. Its a common trick!
@@skelliebeeper5693 Most likely not considering that that technique isn't used in any instance for crowds in bleachers in any mario kart game.
(The technique is used for obstacles in super mario kart and for the trees and plant things in mario raceway in mario kart 64.)

Yes, _definitely_ do wave three! It’s so interesting seeing someone’s perspective that just plays the games more casually and isn’t super into the community. It lets me know right out of the gate that your thoughts are genuine.

As another casual Mario Kart fan, I absolutely loved this wave. DS was my one and only childhood Mario Kart game, so seeing Waluigi Pinball come back was an absolute delight. Sydney Sprint, Mushroom Gorge, and Sky High Sunday are all wonderfully dynamic and just really fun to drive on. Also, I like trains, so Kalimari Desert was an instant win for me.
There's something ironic about Arlo calling the ice cream track "last-gen" looking, considering all of MK8 is... you know... and still it looks better than the ice cream track.
The Wii U still manages to look like a current-gen system.
The music's a banger though.
6:23 - Thing is, the cardboard audience trick is used in other courses throughout even the base game
But you're never supposed to get as close as *THAT* so it works out
It's probably not too much effort to convert Tour courses for the Switch, so things are no doubt almost one-to-one, but surely it wouldn't have killed them to swap out the cardboard cutouts for 3D models, even if the crowd has to be cut down considerably, because if anyone wants to make the claim of "Oh, you'll never notice it when you're racing by anyway", that's almost total baloney
You might not notice it for a while, but eventually you will, or maybe it'll be pointed out to you, and after that you will never not notice it
I think the reason why these videos do well is that they're about something less serious and more silly, which is refreshing for your channel. I think you should continue with more videos of this variety and sprinkle them in, for example I could imagine one of these videos every month or two could do well
This video is everything to me. I have broken up with my girlfriend, quit my job, sold my house, ended all of my subscriptions, and all other such things. I now own only my phone and a magic floating electrical outlet to charge it so that I may exclusively watch this incredible Mariokart 8 Deluxe Booster Course Pass Wave 2 video until the end. Wave 3 has been leaked and most likely waluigi stadium is about to be revealed as it is featured in the banner leak plus music leak.
But even so every other booster course passes will supposedly have a Double dash course now if the placeholders are still correct
I've heard rumours that Dino Dino Jungle and Daisy Cruiser might be returning, I'd love to see that.
I’m kind of bummed that from the start, we weren’t getting courses from any of the Mario Kart Arcade games. Nonetheless I’m a fan of what they have brought us this pass what with Waluigi Pinball and New York Minute.
Personally, if they weren’t restricted, I think it would be so cool for Mario Kart Tour to have coursed based off locations from spin-offs like a course based off Krazy Kremland from DKC2, Diamond City from WarioWare, Rogueport from Paper Mario: TTYD, etc.
It's developed by Namco that's probably why they couldn't use tracks from the arcade? or someone else owns the rights to that games license

The 2d sprites have always actually been 2d, it’s just that you can see them up close in the opera hall. For example, in exitebike, all the spectators are 2d.
That makes it bad

I grew up on Mario Kart on the Wii and DS and I'm so happy that both Clockwork Tower and Mushroom Gorge got in. They've been my two favorite tracks for well over 10 years so seeing them with actually good graphics is very nice to see.
This was actually really engaging, def some of the best content from you in a long time
So I just played some of the Wave 2 tracks, and with regards to Calimari Desert (my sister's favorite track, as I recall) I think the "on the track" bit is great for a specific reason:
If I'm remembering right, that wasn't part of the original route. Going through the tunnel was something of a shortcut or otherwise fairly unintended thing. It was a well known "secret" though, so incorporating it into the track proper is very fun imo.
This is STILL some of the best content you have ever made.
As for my opinion on this wave, Wave 1 had a consistent level of quality. Wave 2 on the other hand had higher highs and lower lows. The Tour real world tracks were more interesting as far as changing layouts were concerned, Kalamari Deset was a huge shock to see it change period, and they had stuff like Waluigi Pinball which looks amazing and Mushroom Gorge which has huge nostalgia for me. Sky High Sundae is alright, but it doesn’t super excite me and Snow Land is a very pretty track with great music but it’s likewise not super exciting. But still, this pack is really good, and I’m excited to see what they do in the next waves.
Also, ABSOLUTELY love Donkey Kong: The Best Musical. It’s just such a silly sign.

Although Mario Circuit 3 was a true let down for me. In the base Mario Kart 8 we have Donut Plains 3 and it looks amazing while Mario Circuit 3 looks like it was ripped out of Mario Kart Wii updated the textures and they call it the day...

I was wondering why it felt like there was something missing from these courses, and I think it's the anti-grav. One of the things that made mk8 so great was how you raced upside-down, up the sides of buildings and down waterfalls, adding a whole new dimension that is missed out on by a lot of these remade tracks.
I totally agree. Unfortunately, since these tracks were made with Tour’s engine and not Mario Kart 8’s engine, what little anti-gravity they might implement isn’t going to be that exciting. Like in Sky High Sundae. That track is pretty much exactly the same as in Tour, only in 8 Deluxe, it has anti-gravity that honestly feels like an afterthought. You could’ve removed it, and nothing really would’ve changed.
They desperately need some really well done anti gravity segments. I would have loved to see what coconut mall, mushroom gorge, and walluigi pinball could look like with anti grav integrated into their design
Eh the courses at least to me were fun and enjoyable waaay better than the first wave for sure,but honestly I'm kind of glad that there isn't a lot anti gravity stuff.
These videos are great. I enjoy the casual perspective on this, as thats basically my view. If I continue to enjoy Mario Kart, I might get this after they all come out, and your videos on it help with that kind of decision.

Wave 2 was definitely better than wave 1. The quality of how the tracks looked seemed to have improved. I do still wish that we got fewer courses but with the quality of the base game. The way the base game reinvented the retro courses was amazing.
Yeah I don’t think anyone would be upset with one cup at a time instead of two but with much higher quality.

As an Australian, the Sydney track is RIDICULOUS in how accurate it is. Everything from the layout of buildings to the barriers in the middle of the track. And you go INSIDE the Opera House? That’s so sick.

Glad to see someone else who enjoys Sky-High Sundae. The environment is pretty imaginative and colorful (not to mention appetizing), and the constant tricks and air time can make it feel exhilarating. On my first run of the track, I had a grin on my face for a majority of the time, and at the end, I straight-up called it delightful.
2:15 it has "Sports Drink" and "Energy Drink" layered on top of one another, like they had both options as different layers in the image and forgot to hide one of them. Neat!
I like your videos when you're excited to talk rather than disappointment or not hyped or whatever, and this was basically all excitement so yes, this is good content that I want to watch. I love this.
