In spite of Mario 3D All-Stars being a “limited release”, throughout the year I continued to see it sold in stores. That was really good to see that people have still been able to purchase it physically.
You can find a copy on eBay for like $40. It’s not rare at all

@@HU-iv1ns But I think he reacts to things too objectively. He's a sort of old-fashioned ''Qualified Required'' reviewer where objectivity is king. The scene has changed now since videos are available. Yes, it's clear that games like Skyward Sword were flawed but the issue is Arlo is not 'dedicated' (not biased, that's different) to a series to understand it fully. You'll see him review Pokémon Arceus and compare it to 'Shadows Die Twice' lol! It's sadly jarring and lacks emotion.

It's a job. Most don't have the luxury to just stop working because they're tired. I'm not saying you shouldn't be appreciative, just that basically anyone working through the pandemic right now is in a similar boat.

I like how we all forgot how excited we were for a Zelda 35th anniversary thing or even Windwaker/Twilight Princess and how everyone like instantly gave up after the Skyward Sword reveal
Ye he showed the Game & Watch thing, so I expected him to talk about it.
Skyward sword is my favorite zelda game of all time so I was insanely hyped.... But then zelda got nothing else. It should've been a 3 pack like they did with Mario. WW, TP, and SS. Nintendo would NEVER though 😒
I don't know what I'm more surprised about. The fact that Joy-con drift is still a thing, or that there are still people who still don't believe in it in 2021.

2021, at least for Nintendo, was the year of games that we never thought would see the light of day: a Pokémon Snap sequel, Metroid Dread, and a completely traditional Mario Party game.
It wasn't Nintendo exclusive this time, but NEO: The World Ends With You, too. I think most people had stopped believing in a sequel after this long.
Mario Party and Warioware being great games was exactly what I needed in 2021. Metroid Dread made me a new fan of the franchise. I'm very satisfied by 2021 and I can't wait to see what the next year holds!

I’d say aside from NSO, this was a massive improvement over 2020.
For sure, tons of awesome titles this year, and early/mid 2022.

@@elveon939 2020 was just an average year, and then October and November sucked and we all agreed it was Nintendo at their worst.

@@The2mightybeanfans I mean, MK64 online is all I’ve ever wanted. But I’m the only person in my group who got the premium. It’s not a problem of “people are too harsh!1!”, it’s the pricing. Even I agree $50 is a bit much.
My personal game of the year was The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. Escaping localization hell after so many years was not something I expected out of this year.
This year was absolutely insane for visual novels altogether. I’m pumped for AI’s sequel especially

As far as the controversy is concerned, I think people need to stop looking at Nintendo like a friend and start looking at them for what they always have been. A business. They are not and never have been that one fun uncle.
They feel more like the drunk fun uncle these days, but the other companies feel like mustache twirling villains or used car salesmen. At least I feel familiar with Nintendo's antics (still doesn't excuse them though...)
Until they fix the joycon drift issue uncle Nintendo ain't getting my money no more. I now use custom firmware to play games. Need to keep my money to repair my joycons.
The main difference is they are a greedy company that puts out high quality products while other greedy companies are trying to put forth the least amount of effort for the most amount of money.

They are Lex Luthor, they do "good things" so you'll completely forget about the crazy things they do.

I’m just pleased the franchise that created the “metroidvania” genre is alive and kicking. I’m so pleased that not only was Dread excellent, but loads of people outside of the Nintendo faithful have been drawn to it. Metroid is a criminally underserved IP in Nintendo’s stable or it has been at least, hopefully this is the start of Metroid games releasing more regularly and with the high quality that Dread has established.
I hope Prime 4 does that too for that series
For me the biggest controversy, after NSO, was the lackluster celebration of Zelda's 35th anniversary. Especially when compared to the pomp and fanfare that Mario got in what was otherwise a very disappointing year.
YEAH FOR REAL That shit really bothered me. A game and watch was all we got? Really? Skyward sword hd was probably going to release regardless of the anniversary so I can't even count that

@@skitterybananas1365 I mean, for Mario's 30th anniversary we only got Mario Maker and they even said in an interview that the release just happen to coincide with each other. Some times they do stuff, sometimes they don't. Hell try being a metroid fan, all you get is a tweet sometimes.

i heard that in japan, if you market a game to have a limited release, then to say "nah we were joking its gonna stay on the eshop until it shuts down" is illegal because consumers panic buy the product.
That's what I also heard- that if you chase that "limited release"-dragon you have to COMMIT.
Though that DOES beg the question of why they felt it was necessary to make them limited releases in the first place...

Arlo trying so hard to bite his tongue regarding the Diamond and Pearl remakes made me laugh. As an OG DP fan, I’ll say it: the remakes did not receive the same love and care that the other remakes did and that was disappointing. Pokémon Snap did, though.
Edit: All of you in the comments saying "I disagree, because I think the game is fun" are missing the point. I'm not saying it's not fun, I am saying the game was not given the same attention and care that remakes like FRLG, HGSS, and ORAS were. It does not have more to offer than its predecessors: compatibility with the current gens they were made with, up-to-date battle mechanics (i.e. Double Battles, Megas for ORAS, usage of the DS tap screen for HGSS in the Pokeathlon mini game, etc), updated Pokedex, etc... In fact it has less. And before you say "These games aren't SUPPOSED to have Platinum content!" Then why is Origin Forme Giratina included? Why is there data for Sky Shaymin? You can't just pick and choose what you want to include in your remake from the combined version of the game. You can like the game. You can have fun with the game. But it's very dishonest to say that this game has the same level of effort put into it that the previous game remakes did. I love Pokemon dearly, I've bought nearly every version that existed and as many of the side games as I could. But the products that the Pokemon Company is putting out are very shamefully cheap for a company that is the highest grossing franchise of all time.
Gonna have to disagree. The gameplay is in tact. The only thing wrong really is the Platinum content is missing
The “only thing wrong” with it is almost game-breaking. If a company starts using a carrot on a stick to wring extra cash out of the consumer, that’s not cool. Delivering half a product is just kind of scummy.

2021 was not too shabby at all! Personally, the return of classic Mario Party and an amazing new Metroid adventure were the highlights for me. I also enjoyed Mario Golf making a return even if Super Rush was a bit lackluster compared to previous entries.
I'm looking forward to seeing some surprises from Nintendo in 2022.

As somebody who had his first Metroid experience with Dread, what you said hit near home for me. I will return to Samus when a new remake or new game comes out. Thanks for a great year, Arlo!!!
My first Metroid experience was Super Metroid, which I played for the first time about a month before Dread released. Then I played Dread and enjoyed it, and now I'm trying the Metroid Prime trilogy for the first time by playing it on my Wii U.
Nintendo really has lost a lot of esteem for me with their horrible business choices. It saddens me that the company behind so many products I hold near and dear to my heart actively does things to hurt their customers
Starting to think that the only Nintendo "fans" left are pure masochists or complete gaming virgins (aka, the next generation).

That analogy of the charming uncles and the executives was the perfect way to describe Nintendo´s current direction, more so considering Iwata is no longer here. It´s kind of sad since I have been a fan my whole childhood and now adulthood and I can´t even afford some of the products from the company right now.
"The magnetic safety clip on your treadmill, is there for a REASON." Also, don't put the side it moves you towards right next to a wall, or couch, or anything like that. Even with the safety clip functioning as intended, the leftover momentum it can have from just a regular jog, if your foot gets stuck in there, can be really nasty. I've seen it happen, and it is not pleasant. I know this is completely off topic, but seriously, if you've got a treadmill, do NOT take this lightly.
^^^ this, I have a deep scar on the back of my leg from when I was younger and messing with a treadmill. I got throw back into a hard corners of a wooden box. 🤦♀️

2021 really was a great year, and the best part is that 2022 looks to be absolutely massive for Nintendo. My biggest worry for next year is how I'll ever find time to play all the new games I want to play, but I'll find a way somehow!

The one time I actually agree with Arlo as I have nothing to say about BDSP. As a person known in my friend circles as a Gen 4 disliker mainly because I don't care for DPP I felt nothing when they were announced besides oh great gonna see this everywhere. Regarding the quality I do feel bad for the fans it was not as good as HGSS or ORAS.
Absolutely agree with you. It’s just mediocre at best, and by far the worst remake in the series. In all honesty, emulating Platinum is by far a better experience then playing BDSP.
BTW Gen 3 and 5 are the best gens
@@aquano1972 Agreed especially since I am a Hoenn Baby and Gen 5 is the only gen I leveled to 100
@@digitaltailsmon4096 both have the best balance of actual challenge, variety in the regional dex, best map designs, story, and even music. HGSS is probably the best casual game, but if you want that nuzlocke itch fulfilled definitely play Emerald or B2W2
@@aquano1972 I actually don't think HGSS is as fun causally. Johto just has a lot of issues from the leveling being very low compared to most gens to the pokemon amount being rather hard to find especially the johto mons.

This was their best year in a long time. Big releases, hype dlc, and great smaller entries made this year so entertaining!
I think when they have a good period, where they are making so much money, they think that they can do no wrong. They get such a huge ego and start doing whatever they want and think that they're infallible. Like the WiiU era never happened. Or the GameCube era. Or the era that is inevitably going to follow this one

Still cannot believe in just a few months Metroid Dread was revived, announced, released, and I can say I have played through it.
2021 hasn’t been an all that different year from 2020 to be honest, but it’s been a good year for gaming with Bowser’s Fury and Metroid Dread etc. It’s also the year I discovered Arlo and I’ve loved listening to Arlocast on my night shifts at work ☺️keep up the good work Arlo!

4 years ago was my first time watching Arlo, back when the Nintendo switch was first announced. The hype is still real.

I still don't understand how an "expansion pack" price is nearly three time higher (In Canada) lol. Switch Online 1 year (25$), Switch Online + Expansion Pack 1 year (64$). An expansion pack is not suppose to cost more than the original price. PS: it's without tax, with tax it's near 70$.
As I was shopping at Aldi earlier and got unusually excited about one specific cool thing that you only see once a year max, the rest of the year being shopping in a pretty limited, bare essentials place, I realize I had essentially trapped myself in another Nintendo situation where you're loyal for years without knowing why, left pretty neglected, then you basically get one super awesome shining moment once in a blue moon.
That Nintendo moment being Metroid Dread.
2021 was actually a nice year for Nintendo. We got some nice new games, with Metroid Dread being the big standout title. We got the return of Nintendo Directs after a year without any. We had some nice DLC for Smash Bros and Animal Crossing. Plus, the future looks bright knowing we got BoTW2, Splatoon 3, Bayonetta 3, Kirby and The Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends Arceus, and Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope for 2022. It was a good year and I hope 2022 will be as exciting as its looking. Let's just hope Covid doesn't mess things up too much.

You started talking about New Pokémon Snap and I audibly went “Huhhhh???!!!??” And didn’t believe you so much that I had to look up the release date. That came out THIS YEAR?!?!????!!!!? Jeez, this year felt so weird…
This year was fantastic on the gaming front for me. Pokémon Snap, Metroid Dread, WarioWare, Mario Party, and Shining Pearl all provided me with many hours of enjoyment, and there are still games that I bought but haven’t had time to play yet, like No More Heroes and SMTV.
Also Skyward Sword HD, which I only got about 5 hours into before putting down but did have a lot of fun with and plan to eventually come back to
