This is my favorite song of all of the songs that have been created, I'm not kidding. That's so good and chaotic, I don't know how to express myself about it
You're one of the only good nu-wave of youtubers who have the "video essay" format. Instead of being fake deep and pseudo-intellectual you break down things in a way I can appreciate. Good job man. You're only getting better with time
Wasn’t expecting to see you here! I also had no idea that this channel had music related videos on here, I found this guy because of his Bioshock video.
Thanks for making this video. I finally understand what the song "Little Dark Age" is all about. I've been hearing that sounds in tons of clips on the internet as edits with a take on topics ranging from masculinity to Warhammer 40k and I didn't understand what it was all about and why that song in particular. I guess people used it because it's cool because out of context (if you don't know the other songs on the album) you might never understand what the authors wanted to sing convey.
Trying to be ironically pop is a career death sentence. Nobody who likes pop would get the cynical aspect of it, and they'll love it. Your most hated song will become your most popular, and you'll curse the day you made the decision every time you're forced to play this song in every live performance of yours. The song will be the thing you'll be remembered for and by. Don't do that. Don't be ironic.
LforLight or make the music you want to make and be creative. Saying “don’t be ironic” is akin to saying “follow the formula and don’t make whatever you want”
Even tho they're pop-esque they're still great songs, and both Kids and Time to Pretend had some pretty insightful lyrics to them, and were memorable cause of it. Here's an idea, maybe they were popular because they managed to combine interesting lyrics with genuinely great songwriting that appealed to a great deal of people who otherwise aren't into MGMT's niche sound? Maybe more artist who want to be successful should learn how to bridge the gap between making accessible songs and injecting their own creativity like MGMT
Same here, as a whole, I may not love their self-titled album as the others but it's still good. And the truth is I got interested in MGMT with those 2008 hits but Congratulations makes them be my favorite (also after several tries). A little bit nervous before LDA released and now I'm glad and relieved that it is solid as it comes.
Thanks for the recommendation man! Will totally check them out whilst on my morning commute, fighting off my existential dread and nihilistic outlooks on life
thorough, and very thought out. great analysis of the album my friend. really brings the project together, and shows a deeper meaning to what can, at times, go over people's heads.
thanks for piquing my interest in MGMTs lyrics! Their poetry seems really more thorough and carefully constructed than they did before you layed out the story of this album the way you did! awesome stuff! Great video. hope you're somewhere you can feel happy!
Is this simply your interpretation or actually what mgmt really wanted to convey? What you said is the best description I've ever heard. Amazing Video... damn
You are what I would concider to be the modern existentialist. Your defiant thinking and extensive analysis on factors of life are what make you one of my favorite TH-camrs. Thank you for this video.
People in their 30’s: “Oooh my god I’m not 25 anymore, I’m gonna die!!! 😢😢😢” People in their 80’s: “I don’t give a shit” So it’s a waste of time worrying about death
Watching while in probably the darkest moment of my life. No one is going to die, no. It's just that if that thing were to happen, my life will change so drastically I won't recognize it anymore. I still hope for that thing to not happen, but yeah thank you, I will save myself the stress, enjoy, and accept if that thing finally come for me.
The video was loading and I saw that zoomed in pic and thought "how much you wanna bet it's gonna start with Me and Michael as the intro song" and boom I was right LOL It's such an energetic intro to a song.
My favourite MGMT song is Of Moons, Birds & Monsters. "Even a bird would want a taste of dirt from abyssal dark. The prick of a feather could make a kingdom burn and the bloodshed start."
When I first watched this video on the 16th of Feb 2018, I didn’t even listen to this album, because I didn’t like music at the time, only gaming. But now that I appreciate music, this is my favourite album of the year. Mikasacus, you converted me into MGMTism. Thank you.
You raised many interesting points about LDA, but I felt like most of the album was MGMT again providing commentary regarding their place in the musical universe. Listening to Hand It Over, there were a lot more lines, to me, that correlated with the idea of working with a big record label like Columbia ("But the doors won't shut until they're sure that there's nothing left to use" and the act of "Hand[ing] It Over" being the band recognizing that they do not have a spot in the popular light as they did with Oracular Spectacular. The phrase "Little Dark Age" reads more as a critique of the culture which they exist, and their cover of "Me and Michael" seems like the band explicitly and satirically selling out as they did with the first album's singles, at least from the music video. Considering MGMT's self-awareness on Congratulations and their recognition of the poor reception of the self-titled album, LDA's "return to form" seems like the band giving the people what they want while also criticizing them for it to the tune of contemporary 80's synth-pop. Again, liked the video, and feel you're points definitely correlate with mine. It's a good album.
finally someone AGREES that the MGMT self-titled is actually pretty good
@@levelupavailable1710 ?
I agree
That’s pretty mean Death seems like a pretty cool guy
I've literally never heard anyone say anything positive about the self titled album until now
To be fair I couldn't make it through the first time. I think it grows on you
Alec Price their self titled album gets lots of praise from the hardcore fans. I even prefer it over the debut.
I appreciate it but honestly alien days and cool song no.2 are the only ones I can actually listen
Haut Strange After alien days the album just turns to noises to me. maybe I'm a fake fan
Plenty of girls in the sea and alien days are great
Little Dark Age may actually be my favorite MGMT songs ever.
This is my favorite song of all of the songs that have been created, I'm not kidding. That's so good and chaotic, I don't know how to express myself about it
how upset are you that tiktok was created bro
the goat song
You're one of the only good nu-wave of youtubers who have the "video essay" format. Instead of being fake deep and pseudo-intellectual you break down things in a way I can appreciate. Good job man. You're only getting better with time
can't agree with this more than i already do!
Oh boi you gotta check out my hot boi NakeyJakey
What a beautiful analysis, not only behind the music itself but the philosophy and thought put in it
Thank you
Mikasony Custano
Your videos are some of the most original ones i've seen in a long while!
Wasn’t expecting to see you here! I also had no idea that this channel had music related videos on here, I found this guy because of his Bioshock video.
@@guit4rguy I wasn't expecting to read your comment either lol. I watch a lot of random stuff like everyone else i guess. And this channel is a gem.

I feel like this band would have been way bigger if it existed in the 70s 80s 90s awesome lyrical genius not just the right time
Trying to be ironically pop is a career death sentence.
What if that is also part of the irony
For a true artist it's about expression, not popularity. Be as ironic as you like.
As much as they wrote some of those early hits "as a joke", I don't get the feeling that they didn't like them.

LDA is a masterpiece, so much good music coming out this year.
This. Looked. So. Good.
4:36 yoooooo. I never even thought about it like that
This was really lovely. I much appreciate your analysis of the music, it gives a lot more meaning

Wow I’ve deadass been missing the whole meaning of this album until I found this video

This album is great and you’ve done a great job dissecting it
Great video! First analysis on the new album I've seen, really enjoyed it.
I love their newest album and I love your perspective it makes it even more cohesive

Wow great video... Really touching
It was this video that got me into MGMT all those years ago, thanks
You are what I would concider to be the modern existentialist. Your defiant thinking and extensive analysis on factors of life are what make you one of my favorite TH-camrs. Thank you for this video.
Best video about the album I have seen so far. Thanks for sharing
An interesting interpretation. I never thought to look at all the songs as a sort of story, but I think there's some merit to it.

i very much enjoyed this video. thank you.
Wow, I just started to listen to mgmt in the last couple of days, great video as well.

You're a pretty cool guy.
LOVE THIS DUDE!! thank you for this and have a great life :))
Actually little dark age is about Lanius and Mr house making out while General Oliver watches
MGMT has been my favourite band for 4 years.
Thx. This almost everything I'm thinking about this album.
And now it became a meme that I wanted to understand, but was all about death, I guess??
People in their 30’s: “Oooh my god I’m not 25 anymore, I’m gonna die!!! 😢😢😢”
People in their 80’s: “I don’t give a shit”
So it’s a waste of time worrying about death
Great video man! Really like their new LP too
Leaving this world isnt scary as it sounds

Hey, could this maybe become a series? I really enjoyed this video! Or you present some albums you really love? Or maybe just one album... please?

You probably won’t see this or don’t care anymore, but Me and Michael want actually a cover, the music video was a joke
good video
nice. i just love this album!
Best review ever
Congratulations was amazing
one thing left to try is probably my favorite or 2nd favorite mgmt song.. it's suuuch a banger and the lyrics are so raw
i wish i could explain to you how much i love this video.
