I like how this song is able to write so implicitly about themes that are relatable to the real world. everyone is so anxious and conflicted by the constant political tension in the world, and by the doublespeak of the media which perpetuates the tension. but you can't just run or hide from the polarized climate of society, you're forced to stand and wallow in a little dark age.
I think it's more like dread. If you witnessed something great and beautiful and couldn't look away, it would be awe, but this is it's opposite, dread.
@@sportscam2124 I rlly love "vibey" music but don't know alot.. but dancin by aaron and still feel by half•alive are two very vibey songs! I also highly recommend the band IDKHOW their music has an 80s vibe and it's aesthetically pleasing
I don't understand the "gothic" aesthetic but I like this video, and this song. I never liked MGMT before, when I listened to this song the first time I didn't think it was them.
"Forgiving who you are, for what you stand to gain." lyrics like this is key in understanding what the song is about; potentially betraying your own will and integrity and doing bad things or making mistakes (likely to gain something) and then living with your mistake and bottling up the dark deeds you have done. No matter what you do that dreadful feeling won't go away, your own little dark age.
@@CallmeBotakaOrc Colonial America was a golden age though. Decolonization is the dark age as the power of individual Americans is collapsing. No only on the world stage but even in their own country via the left stoking racialized/gender divisions, the left destroying organized religions, the left destroying academia, the left destroying pop culture, the left literally burning their own communities. A civilizational dark age is when everyone in a collective consciousness falls into a "Little Dark Age" all at the same time, this induces more little dark ages in everyone as the decline becomes more apparent. A civilizational golden age is when everyone in a collective consciousness turns into a bloomer and become present in the moment with a high expectations for the future. A Gold/Dark age has nothing to do with war/death/slavery or destruction. It is the vibe of the universe manifested by the average person in a society. Do they care for the society? Do they want to better the society? Do they care about their fellow man? Can you trust your neighbor? With mass unfettered immigration, the worship of blacks, the degradation of women, worship of material goods, destruction of divinity, its hard for the modern man to be bloomer. And this is a society problem because you need strong white men to have proper civilization.
I keep forgetting MGMT wasn't a band from the 80's. They seem to do a great job of building on old foundations to make something new and unique, yet oddly nostalgic.
This has been going on for thousands of years. The young people who think the old people are out of touch and the old people who think the young ones are naive idealists. Nothing really ever changed except for our technology. Human evolution goes at a slower rate than technological progress, and technology has been progressing very quickly, this is one of the reasons why we feel this disconnect.
“I grieve in the stereo, the stereo sounds strange”. Such subtle yet awesome lyrics right there. It’s just so hard to know if they did that artistically or just cause it fit the songs feel. That’s the magic of Mgmt.
@Yuvraj Mestri up for interpretation, but most synths are stereo. My interpretation is that he grieves through his music, but was criticized by others for how it sounds
They wrote it to melt down about Trump's presidency being their "little dark age" that they couldn't cope with. Hilarious now that it's been reclaimed as anti-uniparty.
I remember it had a military trend, where people would make montages (pictures/videos) with this song. I did it too but because the song title relates to me
Damn man there's video games I haven't put that much time into. But yeah there's a reason this song is in so many compilations and other videos. It don't get old. This one will be remembered.
I think this song is about leaving behind your life to become someone new, and how that past won't really leave you even if it's not the same you anymore
It’s actually too broad of a song to have meaning. If you look at the forums of this song, there’s so many interpretations of it. Take it as you will. I believe it’s about disalussionment with things you once liked and being stuck in that in between time where you need to figure stuff out again
i cant explain how this song makes me feel. its nostalgic like ive been here but ive never really been there. it feels like another world of some sort, another realm.

Why I can't stop listening to this? Maybe because it speaks volumes about a dark time in my life that I am glad I am not in anymore. No nostalgia, just a reflection from a past when I wasn't really myself.
they actually tried to get away from the mainstream and their own success by making a less popular sound but see MGMT has a problem of just making bangers whether they like it or not

*me listening this song 1am and getting really strong feeling that i wanna be in same spiritual level as different gods (like jesus or buddha) and feel their energy*
The fact that MGMT was literally started as a meta joke just gets me every time, because the more I listen to their music, the more I contribute to the joke itself. *Even if the artistry is amazing!*
MGMT's Oracular Spectacular had huge mainstream success with the singles "Kids" and "Time to Pretend," MGMT is definitely as well-known as can be, given their indie and neo-psychedelic style
This song was the first song on a Spotify playlist I clicked on a whim. Been listening to it on repeat ever since. I like that they took that 80's synth sound and combined it with music you would hear in an early PS1 Castlevania game.
This is hands down a good song, but like, there realistically IS’NT THE best song, it’s whatever people like, so even though this song arguably can’t compare with many songs that are out there, then that’s still just subjective.
@@majasjogren2867 well stereo can mean 2 sides of something, such as stereo sound, so to grieve in stereo is like grieving in a 2 sided or dualistic way. The song follows a dualistic pattern where perspective is shifted but meaning stays the same just like a song where one speaker says something slightly different than the other to envoke a clear meaning which couldn't be understood as well if you only had one speaker connected.

You'll see me standing all alone
Horrified
On the stage
My little dark age
Giddy with delight
Seeing what's to come
The image of the dead
Dead ends in my mind
Policemen swear to god
Love's seeping from the guns
I know my friends and I
Would probably turn and run
If you get out of bed
Come find us heading for the bridge

The ruins of the day painted with a scar

Picking through the cards knowing what's nearby
The carvings on the face say they find it hard

The humor's not the same, coming from denial

I like how this song is able to write so implicitly about themes that are relatable to the real world. everyone is so anxious and conflicted by the constant political tension in the world, and by the doublespeak of the media which perpetuates the tension. but you can't just run or hide from the polarized climate of society, you're forced to stand and wallow in a little dark age.

"Forgiving who you are, for what you stand to gain." lyrics like this is key in understanding what the song is about; potentially betraying your own will and integrity and doing bad things or making mistakes (likely to gain something) and then living with your mistake and bottling up the dark deeds you have done. No matter what you do that dreadful feeling won't go away, your own little dark age.

l was literally thinking the same thing, found myself thinking about Colonial America for some reason

You nailed them. I feel the same way.
This feels like it definitely should have released in the 80s but then there are small hardly noticeable details that make it more modern
I saw this song over some video from the 80's and I was non the wiser.
Absolutely. Technically, the y-tube rendition is too distorted and digital, but otherwise it it's 1985 again.

To see Electric Feel and go straight to this is strangely amazing. They never disappoint.
