    For anyone who thinks all vegans are in-your-face, obnoxious, proselytizing nut cases, they should watch your videos. You are so gentle, encouraging, funny, sweet, smart... You’re a great example for anyone thinking of becoming vegan.

      Awww you are so sweet! Thank you for the kind and thoughtful comment! I am really flattered and hope I can inspire people to learn more about veganism and replace animal-based foods with more plant-based foods!

      I was just thinking the exact same thing. Nisha is so lovely 🥰
      I’m not vegan as I still eat eggs and cheese occasionally but I’m trying to cut them out. This channel has helped me so much. I’m always so inspired by her recipes 👌🏼

      Hi there! Thank you for your wonderful and kind comment. It is definitely much easier and attainable when you practice kindness and make small changes than trying to do everything 100% "right" and "perfectly." Glad you enjoyed the video!

      Hi Marie! Thank you so much for your wonderful comment and for sharing about your family. It's so inspiring you're raising four kids to be vegan, I'm sure it can get hectic sometimes. All the more reason to occasionally slow down and do some self care :) I am so happy you enjoy my video!

    Nisha, this is wonderful and you are absolutely glowing in every way. My husband became an ethical vegan overnight. No gentle transition, just Swedish meatballs to veg overnight! Luckily I was already plant-based so the meals I made for both of us were pretty balanced and whole foods-based. He still relies a fair bit on the not-so-wholesome accidentally vegan and processed vegan products for snacks and quick meals. As you say, no such thing as perfect! I want him to have the healthiest life possible but I think your approach is a good one. I'll recommend this to him even though he has been vegan since summer 2014. I think he'd still enjoy this! Love, Marisa

    • @RainbowPlantLife
      @RainbowPlantLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aww Marisa! Thank you so much for watching and for your lovely comment. I didn't realize you both became vegan overnight. That's great! I had been vegetarian for a few months before becoming vegan, almost overnight as well. I definitely have some processed vegan products (and lots of baked goods) from time to time hehe.

    Most people i see waiting to transition gradually never make it. I had to just go all in to make it stick. Everyone is different though. Great content. Keep it up!

    • @RainbowPlantLife
      @RainbowPlantLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Yes, everyone is different! For some people, having very strict rules and an "all in" attitude is more helpful. I think I lean towards that mentality more but I know many people do not :)

  • @allisonallen2220
    @allisonallen2220 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is all such great advice. Sometimes I have also recommended for people to consider a gradual transition. Begin with the foods you want to remove that you maybe enjoy the least and work your way towards eliminating some of the more challenging items towards the end. This can help for managing those early cravings so you're only dealing with a few cravings at a time. It also gives you some time to learn how to find replacement items or replacement meals for fewer things at a time.

    Such great tips Nisha! I have always had the habit of reading ingredients on labels even before going vegan but so many don't think about that and so much hidden dairy! Thanks for sharing! That chocolate cake looked so yummy!

    • @RainbowPlantLife
      @RainbowPlantLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brandi! Thank you so much! I don't read labels as much now that I'm familiar with which products are vegan, but when I see a new product and assume it's vegan and then look at the label and find some hidden dairy product in there...it blows my mind! So unnecessary. I am actually making that cake again this week - it's made in my Instant Pot!

    Thank you thank you thank you!!! This was excellent. The last point was my game changer. I went vegan overnight (five yrs ago) because of environmental/animal issues. I also came to realize that my motivations stuck if they were for outside sources (like earth/animals) rather than self sources (like weight loss).
    You are so right about being gentle and patient with yourself. Practice, not perfection.
    I’m going to binge-watch your videos today...and take notes!

    • @RainbowPlantLife
      @RainbowPlantLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha I hope the binge watching session was enjoyable :) And yes, I could never stick to a lifestyle just for reasons related to health and weight loss because it's easy to make excuses/cheat. The larger picture ethical and environmental motivations have helped me enjoy my vegan lifestyle and stick to it!

  • @logophile92

    I love your opening statements. I echo what you said. I have found that by merely being vegan, people in my life become more interested in my diet and things I enjoy about it. And many times they like to experiment with it as well and lessen the amount of animal products in their lives. I especially love to cook and bake for people, and that helps draw them into the lifestyle. I love your channel. I just subscribed :)

    Nisha, some of the best advice I have heard or read about following a vegan lifestyle. By the way I prefer the term "whole foods plant based diet", after all beer and french fries are vegan - oops maybe we could live with the beer and pass on the french fries.

    • @RainbowPlantLife
      @RainbowPlantLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tom! So happy you enjoyed this video :) Hahaha, your comment made me laugh. Yes, i have some friends who also prefer that term. I enjoy french fries and (vegan) cake so I think my diet is more accurately called a vegan diet :)

    Good video! It is hard at first because you are not sure what to replace some food items with . i have to make a lot of homemade food because the vegan meat substitute items give me headaches from the added stuff like yeast extract.

    • @RainbowPlantLife
      @RainbowPlantLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching! Yes, I only occasionally buy the vegan meat substitutes at the store. I try to rely more on beans, lentils, tofu and tempeh and prepare them myself. I have to add 1 video to your list: it's called The Game Changers. It comes at the topic through the eyes or world-class athletes. But it has something for everyone. The part where they showed what happens to your blood serum after just one meat-containing meal was really compelling.

    I gave hundreds of Dollars US in dairy and meat away. I had a freezer chest full of meat. Since 99% of the people around me are not even close to vegan it was not hard. I struggled but I stuck with it. I never fell, but it was not easy my first year. I had cooked for 35 yrs at the time but had to learn a different way of cooking. Strangely enough my family and friends respected my wishes and came to my house once a week any even brought alot of vegetables with them. Since they own land and had garden this became a boom for me.
    I live in a small town where most folks grow organic anyway. They don't want chemicals in they're food either.

    Its been a month that I have started vegan diet. My motivation is for healthy life and clear skin. Because it’s only been a month I haven’t seen major changes neither have I lost much weight. I think I need to do proper planning then just putting stuff together last minute. The most difficult part for me is my craving for seafood. Sometimes I use dashi powder so that I have base as fish. Also, it’s so difficult to avoid dairy, I love my cookies 😭 Not gonna lie I have been eating cookies here and there. Just so that I am not being too strict to myself. I think I will break my diet this Christmas just for the fish/seafood. Hoping to gradually build up endurance to tolerate my craving.

    • @RainbowPlantLife
      @RainbowPlantLife  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi there! I can't exactly relate to the seafood cravings, but here is a guide on how to replicate those flavors without using fish products :) www.onegreenplanet.org/vegan-food/how-to-make-vegan-seafood-dishes-without-the-fish :) And this is a great chickpea "tuna" salad recipe from Sweet Potato Soul sweetpotatosoul.com/2015/06/vegan-chickpea-tuna-salad-video.html
      Regarding cookies, you are in luck! There are SO MANY awesome vegan cookie recipes on the internet :) You can find a few on my blog rainbowplantlife.com/recipes, and I'll be sharing another one there this week! Check out this list of vegan cookies from Oh She Glows ohsheglows.com/2016/12/02/oh-she-glows-15-best-vegan-cookie-recipes/ and the cookies from The Vegan 8, two of my favorite vegan food bloggers!

    I'm struggling with the food I have in my house, mainly the meat. I have a freezer full but I also have a son so I've committed to eating it we will finish it all. it's just really hard when I've made this choice because of the animal cruelty aspect, I have all this meat in my house and I can't let go to waste obviously but it's hard. I'm glad I have my son to help me with eating it.

    ohh what is this animal at 10:20? soooo cute!!! you are very inspiring to me. I am nothing like a vegan -yet- but i am getting information and educate myself slowly..the problem i have is i go vegan and after a week or so i get so hungry and i begin eating whatever i find. I have no weight problem still i fail to take the calories intake i need as i exercise a lot too. With trial and error i am going to make it! thank you!

      Isn’t it soooo cute?? It’s a wombat, native to Australia. I fell in love with them instantly. Thank you for your comment, Eva! One key to staying full is to make sure you’re eating enough healthy fats! I know a lot of vegans stick to a low fat diet but everyone’s body is different and I can’t stay full if I don’t eat a decent amount of plant based fats (in addition to a decent amount of protein). Most of my meals here have a good balance of those things :) Hope you try some of them out!

      @@RainbowPlantLife ah that animal! I can search for it now ;) thank you i will try to follow the fat-tip since i think i was too focused on protein with little focus on fat. I enjoy your content a lot!

      @@evavatsaki1305 So happy you enjoy my content, thank you! I love adding nuts and seed to almost any meal. And of course avocado :) And for condiments, I love using tahini and cashew cream! And yes now you can google image "baby wombat" and see the cutest little animals!

    I have a reaaaaal struggle with cheese and sauces. Vegan sauces are 3x more expensive than regular sauces and i am a student. That is also the case with cheese, vegan cheese doesn’t taste good at all, and is very expensive. Does anyone know how to deal with this issue

      Have you tried making your own? I have a really incredible vegan cheese sauce that lots of non vegans love!

    I have been vegan for a short two months and I have a list why it is so hard for me. There is a majority of ethnic recipes that I can't even pronounce and I don't even know what they are supposed to look like. I have never eaten Asian or Mexican in my life and I am 61. So now I have to adjust to that besides just being vegan. I don't like too much spice and Braggs Liquid Aminos in the hummus I made caused me to throw it in the trash, it tasted vile to me. I have to feed a husband who is not becoming vegan. He is eating our vegan suppers with no complaint but eating whatever he wants otherwise. That is because our suppers have been mainly soups and stews. But would he eat a bowl with beans and greens? I don't know. So I am always looking for something really hearty. (Nisha I am making your Instant Pot lasagna tomorrow.) The other thing is all the wheat. All the cookbooks and videos feature bread; they will even tell you which one to buy. I have just spent five years avoiding gluten and I get pretty bad reactions from eating wheat. Vegans are against oil and sugar but they accept wheat like it's nothing. It's like the elephant in the room. Ok, rant over. I bought your cookbook and I am finding your videos very helpful.

    After 3 months of being "vegan", I've found out that I've eaten noodles that contain eggs 4 times since I've made the decision to go vegan. I don't feel very good about it.
    Moral of the story: always check the ingredients' list or ask a waiter at the restaurant if the food you want to order is vegan.

    For us, the transition is to eat the last of our non-vegan food, and stop buying non-vegan. That way, when we are done we'll have only vegan food left. We can't stand the idea of wasting it. We donated what we could, but things that are open we can't donate.

    Why is being vegan always associated with weight loss

    • @RainbowPlantLife
      @RainbowPlantLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! I think there's a misunderstanding of veganism as a diet (not a lifestyle), and there's a strong association with diets and weight loss.

    • @alinameier-boke2498
      @alinameier-boke2498 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      RainbowPlantLife yeah it kinda sucks because every time I tell my mom I want to become vegan she thinks I do it to lose weight (I got a past with weight so that's why she's so sensitive) and I just can't convince her that it's a lifestyle for me

    • @RainbowPlantLife
      @RainbowPlantLife  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Alina, maybe you can explain to her a few concrete reasons (completely unrelated to weight loss) you want to become vegan --- whether it's for the animals, environment, etc. Or maybe you can suggest watching a documentary together (I've linked to a bunch in the description box). Or show her some videos on youtube or articles that you find compelling!
