- Hi All, in this video I go over the basics for how to play emulated retro games online multiplayer with RetroArch. RetroArch allows you to play a variety of systems online, including Nintendo (NES) Super Nintento (SNES), Sega Genesis, Sega Dreamcast and others!
Tips:
1. Ensure both of you have the same version of the game ROM
2. If connecting is an issue, try using a relay server
3. If connection issues still persist, try forwarding port 55435 on your router

this video is what made me sub to your channel, my friend and I played snes with me on an android phone and he was on a mac computer and it worked perfectly and were about 100 miles away or so. absolutely amazing

Thanks for this tutorial ! dig the PIP you did with the android & pc display,! only thing better woulda been to get a mate to play with you to demo it further. i'll be saving this off as a future reference for setting up a netplay session! i'm hoping this works for many platforms besides what you mentioned here and hope that either Netplay or some other product will create/improve upon this type of experience. so many couch coop games among the retrogaming sphere, which warrants this kind of netplay capability! obviously free is great but if a company could provide it even for an inexpensive price i think people would buy it as long as it worked.

I have been researching this for days, the official page doesn't mention which ports should be open. Someone said to use UPnP which is crazy, other says to open port 55435, but if that's the case, why is no being mentioned in the official page?

when u connect with someone do u just select 2 player as player one and itll go in multiplayer also how do you exit when done netplay

For those who are curious, I tried several ROMs, and the one that worked was Street Fighter for the SNES, and it worked flawlessly.
I'll just make sure to look up a compatibility list and try again woth some othe stuff.

Dumb question it dose work for Nintendo Ds but it is not letting me and a friend play together how come it will not work? We are using the steam version and we both have the Desume cores installed. Is there something we are missing? We are trying to play a Kirby game together.
after it says "you have joined as Player 1" it says that the server isn't connected to internet, what do i do?

Hello sir. Whenever I Netplay and I enabled the Upnp in my router it says "external network has a private or shared adress". How to fix this sir? Thank you.
RetroArch netplay is synced? i mean i can see the other player screen? or my screen is apart from their screen? what happens if i join a game with a random spawns.. i wanna know because i really wants to play games like Twisted Metal 4 and all that kind of games with random spawn xD
I've been trying to find a way to play legend of mana with my cousin but I'm not sure if there's an emulator for Android that could set up that connection between us. Is that possible with this program on the android/android version? Ps: we are in different states, which is why we needed this option.

Hey so yeah I just exactly like your video said & when I launched my game while I'm hosting I get this message saying stuff like for example I did as your video described which is getting RetroArch for PC and the version I have is 1.9.10 and when I started hosting Netplay as well as the game it told me this "We are so sorry but the Net Play UPNP Port Mapping has failed. Please try again or try something else." So here's my question dude cause I'm running this on Steam...How do I fix that up?!

Hello , i have a little problem. At 4 minutes on your video you talking about a user menu but i dont know where it is ? Is is in netplay ? Im little bit confused. Im visualy impair and from what i see there only 4 category : host , connect to netplay host , network and refresh . Can uyou explain me how accessing the usermenu please ? Thank you

Yes. You don’t need netplay for this. Just plug up another controller and go to town.

Yes, he says so in the video... he is connected to his PC's server from an android device.

Same problem here! doesn matter what game. I tried with genesis, snes (mario kart), street fighter alfa2 and the message os the same: "port mapping failed".

As soon as you mentioned you were running a GBA emulator at the end of your comment, I realized "link cables." That's all I'll say.

Ofcourse it does
Retroarch netplay kinda complicated for me 😵. Have a look on Multigba S emulator for GBA netplay
The player 2 experience is hell fore some reason
On Multigba S? Its depend on both player connections, but P1 connection was the most crucial for smooth play

I am a pretty techy person, and I've tried absolutely everything to get this netplay working. Nothing. Trying Snes9x-Current. I forwarded my ports successfully. I host, but when a buddy tries to join (or if I try to join him) we get "netplay failed to locate matching content". We have the exact same rom, same version of Retroarch, same settings, same forwarded ports, etc etc.. Both of us created a playlist for SNES and added our rom to it, configured it to pick the SNES9x-Current core. Absolutely drained and have no idea what else to do.
I came to a revelation that RetroArch doesn't recognize our games as ROMS. We're able to add them to manual playlists, and they load and play just fine, but RetroArch doesn't view them as games when we try to take it to NetPlay. I had one game out of like 6 roms get automatically added to it's own playlist, and that particular game (though singleplayer) loads in NetPlay without issue.
I have no idea how to get RetroArch to recognize these other roms. Willing to Venmo anyone who can help!
