Pretendo should stop requiring CONSOLE KEYS as the Wii U is an OLD unit and dead . Hope Pretendo realizes that 1300 players gone means that 1300 players who played with real console players are gone meaning most of them will leave due to the empty servers.
So concerning Pretendo: Anybody can use its source code to set up their own relay server, right? I can't rule out the possibility of the main Pretendo relay operator abusing their banning power for personal motives if they have opened the door to banning people at all.

3DS' are still stupidly expensive right now especially outside of the US. The cheapest used 3DS I can find is a $150 New 2DS, importing it is even more expensive. @@Yoshizuyuner

The unique console ID of the Wii-U and 3DS is a sixteen digit alphanumeric sequence. The odds of someone making a generator and hitting your number is quite low. So if you made your own dump of your keys, there should be no problem.

i hope that gameboy game dragonhymn has a digital version.a lot of these carts are made in a way that can damage your gameboy. I usually use an epilogue cart dumper if i'm forced to buy physical

Like anything else, there are those who will take advantage of a situation. Personally, if I had to pay more to support a unionized workforce, the actual people doing the work and not some MBA is a suit that hates games and doesn't understand them, I'll pay the extra five bucks to keep those invested and knowledgeable in the product/service employed.
As for Pretendo, literally every emulator that emulates a system requiring unique keys of that system, like the 3DS and Wii U, say to get the key files from your own hardware. If Pretendo wants to ban consoles for abusing the rules, why not? They are now in charge of an on-line gaming community and if someone is abusing that, then their console should be banned. Splatoon cheating got quite bad toward the end. Being cheated on is not the experience I want to relive. Also, Pretendo is free. They are not losing money when banning someone. Be thankful for what they have done and will continue to do.
