You made quick work of this one, Dan and it demonstrates the power of looking that the CAN waveform with a scope...you don't like what you see, then find the module messing things up. Camera work, sound and scene transitions all very good!

I just found a another gentleman explaining really nice about a synthesizer I recently bought and I subscribed to his channel too, he is called ' funnzie " and a another funny guy with interesting ideas about cars called ' sweet project cars ", so 4 channels now. The first 2 I was subscribed for were " refinish network ", this was the first one and I love it. The second was ' Jake Quintin " a PDR guy, a really good one. The car painting was my ' first love ". I always thought about fixing dents without having to repaint, this was in the early 90`. When I discovered (by mistake) the PDR technique, I was blown out. We have some really good guys out there on TH-cam, like you are. That's a huge advantage and a great power! Thank you Dan, again! I wish you a good, healthy and very Happy New Year with all the strength to make great videos for us!

Good stuff Dan I had a 5 series wagon with air suspension and underneath the spare tire is where the module was located for the air suspension and like you’re trailer module was coated in water it had made the drivers side air bag blow anyhow always fun to see you’re videos 👍🏻

Need to share this: I have Combination Comfort databus (In single wire mode) on my Polo Cross 9n 2004, that's why I got interested in this topic. The only problem that I see on the car atm is battery drainage and right low beam doesn't get the power, and it's not working. Recently I fixed problem with water leakage from my sunroof, which is common for VWs, and I suspect that is the problem. I will dive into this, as your videos encourage me to do so, the biggest issue for me is to find the location and the list of modules that are connected to the Comfort Databus to start diagnosis. :)

So they fitted a vented module so that if water entered the area is was located it would fill up the module. Hmmm, great design that is. Give that Engineer a wooden spoon award.
I just installed a towbar and I managed to make all the wires and can inside the vehicle not outside. I assume I wont have to deal with such a problem🤩
Some mk7 e-Golf, have a similar problem. The computer for charging the high voltage battery, located in the trunk, is mounted so that the wires enters from the top, which causes moisture to seep into the computer.
-Resistance between can h n can can l must be 60 ohm. -As u mentioned waveforms must be opposed each other -there is a can diagram connecting module with can line that u may get from alldata -there is “can hacker scanner” that may be useful 4 can error fixing - resistance between can h and can low of plugged engine computer is 60 ohm and unplugged computer is 120 ohm
Great video as usual and I realize you were rushed do to vacation but normally you would of showed where and how you tapped into the K bus. Did you use a BOB at the OBD connector? I'm trying to push myself into using our scopes more but never seem to find good info on how to connect.
O i did show a picture of the connection. Take a closer look to the video. I tapped into the the K-bus at the PDC module. Yes i was in a hurry. Normally my video's are more detailed. If you want to get into scoping. Take a look at the Gmto scope! The software tells you how to connect the scope. In many cases even brand specific with a picture. Go to the Ryans Automotive website and take a look.
Sorry my bad.I watched again and found your pic at 2:00 I have a ATS escope 4 channel but would like to get the software to use as an aide, is that possible?
@@richboro1 you can buy the software and you can use wiring diagrams,explainations, and information how to connect your scope and test components. But you can't use another brand scope in the software.

Dan, have you had experience with the Porsche Cayenne 06, thinking of buying a mint one, although the dash has a little exclamation mark light that is on. Supposed to be a general warning light. Apparently the low brake pad sensor sets off this? Any thoughts would be appreciated. It also has the 4.5 liter engine. Your friend John.
Hello Dan, I have a similar problem probably water related on Seat Altea 2004 1.9 TDI BJB. Initially was comfort module 1 wire communication on all 4 doors and time to time motor stops like missing fuel , If i insist trying to start , it is starting , without any error code. Right now after battery replacement I find it completely drained and with the back Windscreen washer at half of the windscreen; After recharging the battery I have no front screen wipers and washer , the Back windscreen wiper& washer is working fine No cigarette lighter (used for laptop power ) , no cabin light front and back and most off all , after i stop the engine, the ventilators from radiator are start spinning without stopping for more den 3 minutes I find water inside motor fuses box which I hope I insulated after air bowled and water repellent sprayed but radiators fan still not stopping ... any advice where I could look
Another great video!! Do all the CAN buses on a BMW diagnosed the same way? I am having some communication problems in my 2006 M5... Should I be able to read 60 ohms resistance between the high and low side of these buses? Also, should I read 60 ohm when measuring between pin 6 and 14 on the OBD2 Ports? Keep up the good work!!
That's funny. I also had a faulty trailer module in a brand new company car, draining the battery over the course of a few weeks. No water involved though. It's funny how I on a daily basis work with slide doors that use CAN-bus, and immediately saw the signal problem, yet none of the cars I've ever owned has had this system, and I have no way of looking into my car's pre-bus dataline. Grrrr!

great video Dan as always I would love to have a diagnoseDan video on a BMW N53 engine one cylinder misfire code cyl5 seems common fault and hard to diagnose have 2009 BMW and BMW change coil, injector computer and now they change coil again I can smell fuel, symptom cold startup idle....... runs fine otherwise. Don't have to pay the bill warranty and they try hard to find problem
they are not finished, they will take it back for other parts canon, let us see what they do next.... it is for sure interesting to learn how they work but at least they try and hopefully learn something
Hi Dan. I have a question. If you were using a OBD2 scan tool and you observed all the readings had a spike in a negative way, what would be your thoughts? I have a vehicle that does this. My alternator was putting out AC volts way high so I replaced it. I have tried my tool on another vehicle and it works fine. I even replaced it but still get those readings. My thought is a wire issue but have no idea where to begin.
I only have 4 pins in use on my DLC but checked. I found a odd reading between pin 4 and pin 5 which was -2.4 mv. Would you be able to tell me what that would indicate.
Well I finally checked my DLC using neg. lead to ground and pos. lead to pin. Pin 2 was .3 to 1.8v. Pin 4 was 18.2v and pin 5 was 12v. I then tested between pins 2 and 5 and got .29v key off. 1.5v Key on. Any ideas? Is this a shorted module?

It's funny how I on a daily basis work with slide doors that use CAN-bus, and immediately saw the signal problem, yet none of the cars I've ever owned has had this system, and I have no way of looking into my car's pre-bus dataline. Grrrr!
Some aftermarket modules won't go in sleep mode and can keep the network awake! And Sometimes it's an installation problem.

I had the same thing happen to me on a defender 110 pcm. Funny thing is the wet one ran better than the used replacements

great video Dan as always I would love to have a diagnoseDan video on a BMW N53 engine one cylinder misfire code cyl5 seems common fault and hard to diagnose have 2009 BMW and BMW change coil, injector computer and now they change coil again I can smell fuel, symptom cold startup idle....... runs fine otherwise. Don't have to pay the bill warranty and they try hard to find problem

they are not finished, they will take it back for other parts canon, let us see what they do next.... it is for sure interesting to learn how they work but at least they try and hopefully learn something

just how safe are these aftermarket modules as long as you keep them dry?
When istalled properly they work OK. But Oem ones are just as expensive and have a fault code memory that can be read with a scantool

Hi Dan. I have a question. If you were using a OBD2 scan tool and you observed all the readings had a spike in a negative way, what would be your thoughts? I have a vehicle that does this. My alternator was putting out AC volts way high so I replaced it. I have tried my tool on another vehicle and it works fine. I even replaced it but still get those readings. My thought is a wire issue but have no idea where to begin.
You would have to take measurements at the Dlc
I only have 4 pins in use on my DLC but checked. I found a odd reading between pin 4 and pin 5 which was -2.4 mv. Would you be able to tell me what that would indicate.
Well I finally checked my DLC using neg. lead to ground and pos. lead to pin. Pin 2 was .3 to 1.8v. Pin 4 was 18.2v and pin 5 was 12v. I then tested between pins 2 and 5 and got .29v key off. 1.5v Key on. Any ideas? Is this a shorted module?
