I really enjoyed watching that rebuild. Great job ... looks like brand new. I just wish you had filmed the gel coat application -- I have no experience with that, and with the results that i just saw ... you obviously have plenty of experience with it -- the color match looked spot on!! Maybe you could do an episode in the future just about you process with the gel coat. Was the use of the glass at the end strictly for the smooth surface, or is it also so you can see through to what you are working on?
The glass was just a flat weight to hold the mylar flat The glass lets me see through to make sure I don’t have air bubble, etc Thanks for the suggestions If you look back in my videos about a year ago, I re-cored a Com-Pac 23 mast base. I think there is more in depth on the gelcoat in that series of videos. It was maybe 3 videos Thanks for watching!
In your video on repairing the joint between the hull and the deck, you used 5200 but said that you used other forms of bedding on other projects. What did you use to bed the mast base? Also, what would you use to bed other deck penetrations like stanchions and rigging hardware? I can’t thank you enough for all the knowledge and wisdom you’re sharing.
Thanks I used 3m 4200 on mast base I use butyl tape a lot on hardware as well as boat life life caulk and 4200 The life caulk seems to work well on teak too I rarely use 5200 but find it appropriate on the hull to deck joint Thanks for watching
The cliché would be "good as new" but I think this repair is BETTER than new! Nice job!
Thanks!
THANKS FOR POSTING! In the future, when you have more repairs, PLEASE...more in depth on gelcoat finishing over repairs would be appreciated.
Ok
Thanks for the suggestion
Looks great to me. Nice job!
Thanks!
Top notch as usual!
Thanks!
i just wanna suggest using outdoor wood stain on the part the door slides along for looks and to add a layer of protection.
Thanks for the suggestion
Beautiful work on this. Making it better. All boats should be made with no wood.
Thanks for watching
