Ben, i know i over use the word 'Stunning, however this cabin is exactly that! As you say anyone remotely interested in architecture, design and indeed craftsmanship this is not to be missed. I for one would live there as a home in an instant. The showcasing of so much local talent and craftsmanship is integral to the experience. And that is before the location, views, skies and the bush is taken into consideration. A visit here would no doubt change your life...for the better! A big thank you to the hosts Ben and Christie, what am amazing place! A showcase for so many.

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts here Keith. I’m right there with you. Where the wine fridge is I’d pop a European laundry and I’d try and squeeze the bathroom sink into the bathroom and then find a slap of beautiful Huon pine and make a writing (editing desk) where that little nook is, and I don’t think I’d ever leave!

I want to go there! If I had one critique, I think it needs just a little bit larger deck with a covered portion that extends the living area with some nice lounge chairs and a coffee table. would be awesome to sit out under the shade or out when its raining.

This is truly amazing. I recently bought a block of land in the mid-north of South Australia and this is providing a lot of inspiration of what I could do with a tiny home (if I had the cash that is haha!). I agree, These could easily be off grid and that roofline can definately support some solar panels. There are some interesting retro design (1960s and 1970s) elements like the highly pitched non gabled roof, skylights, and exterior wood planks orientated vertically. However, the interior layout is odd with a bathtub in front of a bed and a bolt upright seated bench with a small table instead of a lower slung cushy sofa with built in end tables. I realize it is a cabin...but the bathroom would make more sense if it was walled off completely from the rest of the space... integrating the shower and bathtub as a single unit. That would free up space for a small dining room table to enjoy the view while eating. The raised wood stove is well designed, as is the kitchen.

Good question, I’m not overly familiar with those terms or requirements the area around the cabins was cleared really well, and there were water tanks at each cabin plus multiple fire trails and emergency exits. Felt very safe. I imagine the HV council would have more detail though. 😊

I have watched this over and over, and I am going to use some of these design features for a cabin that I have in the works. I have already drawn it up, and will be working on it in the next few months. It is not as grand as this one, but will have some of the same feel, without the tub and bathroom. I am replicating the seating bed area, and the black kitchen wall. Can't wait!

The finish of the shown surfaces looks quality and the nature around it stunning. I am not really sure its very inviting for an older couple. The "couch" a bit to high, no entrance with a wheelchair, the wooden rim around the bed and a difficult to get out deep battub... and at a certain age i am not sure you like to climb naked out of the bathhub, while your partner is having a meal right in front of you ;D

Somebody really must hate "form follows function". I have no other explanation for that bathtub which basically screams "let me be the most uncomfortable bathtub that ever existed".
Looks like a weekend retreat for rich people who don't have to bother who is cleaning the place afterwards (showing bath water, the roof windows, etc.).
Talking about local and sustainable sounds like a bad joke here since we're still dealing with a house in the wilderness whose existence is 100% superflous since, I'm sure, it's only a weekend house.

Hey Annie, Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! My partner and I enjoyed the bath. It's so deep you tend to just float in it, with the shape not having much impact on the experience. I'm not familiar with any airbnb or hotel that imposes cleaning on the occupant..:) I'm also not sure where you are located, but here in Tasmania, high quality tourism developments are key to our states growth and industry.

    • @miketackabery7521

@@bennybnbthanks for asking! I didn't even look at the interior, and anyway that's an entirely different subject. It's the exterior that immediately turned me off.
In order to be sympathetic to its environment it needs detail and a fitting envelope, but it has neither. Its exterior has been designed to be put into any place and environment... but this is a special place and environment. That's a disconnect. And the structure looks disconnected.
It's a challenge to build something beautiful and fitting, but that's the ideal we must strive for. We can't all be great and original architects like Wright and Lutyens and so we should unabashedly copy the fine or great work of others, and be satisfied with original details. And be satisfied knowing we've built a beautiful and fitting structure. And be satisfied knowing that the world is full of many beautiful and fitting buildings that were designed in just that way.
