I have so enjoyed seeing you make this. Usually the quilters use cut up scraps. I have a lot of repurposed materials to sew together to make quilted bedrolls and need to do larger pieces as I plan to make 20. I needed this thank you again. Keep sewing.
WHOO-HOO-HOO! I love your enthusiasm. And since I'm in a sewjo funk, I think I will go sew all my little scraps together. I usually take those bigger hunks and get as many different width strips out of them, then make itty bitty scrappy squares.
I loved watching this episode. It helped me to understand about keeping my seams going the same way and how I can still use my oops to be useful because I just started sewing and quilting what I have heart to do. Thank you!
I LOVE HOW YOU USE LARGER PIECES. I'VE MADE PROBABLY 20 SCRAPPY QUILTS & MY STASH NEVER SEEMS TO GO DOWN....I'LL HAVE TO STOP MAKING REGULAR QUILTS & CONTINUE TO DO MINDLESS SCRAPPIES. THANK YOU FOR SHARING..MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
I’ve made 60 7 1/2” crumb blocks and loved every minute of it. I found it freeing and relaxing! I had just made 2 quilts and 7 table runners for Christmas gifts and was burned out. This helped. Thanks for this video!
New sub here!! Glad I found you. Years ago, talking 50, I made a crazy quilt. It was just a "silly" idea I had because we couldn't afford to buy fabric. I just kept sewing pieces on but did it with zigzag rather than seaming. Back then we didn't have internet so I sort of did what I thought might work. I got it to a throw size and then packed it away unfinished. Three years ago I showed it to my friend who is a quilter and has a long arm machine. She took it and put a backing on it and quilted it for me. It is a true treasure. I love your idea and think I will try that next after I finish my current project. Can't wait to watch more of your videos and learn from you. Thank you!
I love watching you sew scraps together , and cutting, but ironing not so much, lol. I also love the fabric on your ironing board. Please keep doing this for all your fans, like me.❤️❤️❤️.
I’ve got two quilts to finish before I cam start making scrappy blocks. So relaxing. And lucky for the gifted scraps. I would’ve worked on cutting the strips and larger fabric into useable squares. 2.5”, 5x5”. Strips too. I’m trying to finish a denim circle quilt just barely a queen.
It was very interesting to see your "strips first" approach. Most crumb blocks start with the smallest bits going out to strips around edges. I will have to see what works for me.
Wow that has come together well, surprising just what you can do isn’t it. Who would have believed that the pile of scraps you had on the table turned out as it did by popping the pieces together . Gives you a little challenge to work at . , plus there will never be two the same. No matter how hard you try. Well done on that one . Just be sure you have plenty of bobbins at the ready . Hehe . Thanks for sharing yes thank you enjoy these videos . Good ideas and tips .
I really enjoy watching you sew scraps together 💕 I find scrap quilts easier to make than quilts that match. I can’t match 5 fabrics but I love putting 5,000 pieces of fabric in a quilt🤭I’m quilting a string/crumb quilt using scraps of embroidery thread as I watch your video🌷🌷🌷
What a beautiful quilt❤ I use News paper, cut into. Start in the middle and get to sewing. Iron while it is still on the paper. Trim edges to paper (back side). When you have enough blocks for a quilt top, get to sewing. Much faster piecing with any scraps😊
I loved the idea you have used with some larger pieces. I would probably cut into 12 and a half inch unfinished blocks and sash them to give the eye somewhere to rest and bring all the colours together if I were doing it. Amazing job.
Yes! I think that's a great idea. Thank you! 😊. I haven’t put it on the long arm and consider doing just that every other time I look at it. Happy quilting
Enjoy your scraps peeps! An unforseen accident had me losing years and years worth and I feel as though I've lost my right arm. I'll eventually get em built up again... but my words of wisdom would be... 'cherish those scraps! Hoard the wee boogers!' All the best! Blessed be!
I made covers for some my kitchen appliaces such as the cake mixer. I measred the dimension of a larger piece of material that ultimately would be the cover and the lining. Then joined scraps together sewing them onto the lining as I went. When the lining was covered I shaped and sewed the side and top. Then hemmed the covers. Loved the result. Thanks for your video.
New subscriber here. Cynthia. I have been knitting, crochet and quilting about 14 years. I’m not that good but have fun gifting it all. Right now, I’m working on putting scraps and orphans into a quilt I call the ugly quilt. A bunch of ugly makes beautiful every time. I am in Oregon.
Ive make a more contrived scappy quilt using 12" blocks. Easier for my hands to work with. Not the same look of course. Was fun watching you BUILT the fabric. Very interested to see how you finish it. Someone mentioned a black border. I agree a really nice idea.
I agree. It's so much easier to work with blocks. Thanks my friend. 👍 new tutorials coming soon. I finished this one with raw edge appliqué and cutting it in thirds and sewing it back together. The video is out now.
I call my quilt tops of scraps GONE TO PIECES as these are for the Kids Quilt Program at the quilt guild. The children who receive these quilts have had their life go to pieces. I make blocks with sashing and corner squares. These turn out really pretty using scraps!
I love making scrap fabric. You can make some awesome projects from the fabric. I have made totes, pillows, quilt tops, pot holders, table runners. You name it, you can make it! ❤
I just loved, loved, loved this video. I enjoyed your relaxed, in your own sewing room, style and approach. I also found your vocalization of your thought process as you combined scraps helpful. I am excited to start playing with my own scrap basket.
I am so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching my friend. I would love to know what you turn your scraps into. They are fun and challenging too. So glad you loved this video. Thank you so much 😊
Its gorgeous.. i think it would make a great car quilt or picnic quilt or even a sleeping bag for when little ones stay over..lightweight flannel instead of batting and lightweight denim for the backing.. if keeping it as a picnic quilt could tie it instead of long arm it.. anyway you go its fabulous!!
i am working on a small 18th century inspired tie on pocket for my sister. it's a scrapy patchwork all hand stitched because the handwork helps manage my anxiety were the machine starts to stress me out. i also have a dufflebag for my husband using the same techniques being worked on. and miraculously that's it for the moment! i finished a lamp shade for my son but he hasnt finished his part so i refuse to wash and block that crochet doily till he cleans one shelf of his room.
@WhereWendyCreates - kids are. i got fabric for a new project requested by my sister. and my other sister wants a pocket too so i'm looking for the right colors ans textures for her
@ I am not hand quilting them. I am using my grandmothers method. She tied quilts for the home beds. She was a seamstress and did make special quilts for wedding gifts and new babies. But at home her warm beds had tied quilts. That is what makes the difference in time.
I don't mean to sound stupid, but what is the purpose for a scrap journal? I originally thought scraps was 1 1/2 to 3" because the big scraps like you have I cut up into squares or strips for future quilt blocks.. I took all my tiny scraps, sewed them together and when I had a 12" block I stopped. I kept that for a long while because it was a hot mess. It had so many seams it couldn't lay flat.
You took this pile of scraps turned into a really fun quilt. To me, this quilt top is full of positive energy and makes me smile! I saw big (very wonky) pieced blocks blended in like a modern art type log cabin. 👍🏻 Loved 🥰 this.
This is great! Love the no rhyme or reason - my brain is at peace - lol. Flyin' by the seat of my pants. You really can use all your scraps! Oh guess you did finish it - nothing in between then, correct?
I’ve done scrappy quilts and crumb quilts . I don’t leave the selvages in and I trim the wonky seam allowances . Huge seam allowances won’t quilt nicely IMO
I cut my scraps into all different widths and lengths and shapes to make a crumb quilt. I have piles and piles of strips and shapes to be sewn together. I will have 6” blocks, and plan on not using the same fabric in the blocks next to each other.
Perhaps a train wreck of scraps could be cut into squares and then outlined with a solid fabric like a window pane. This could create more calm in the chaos
I am all for using scraps, but….no plan and mish mashing them together is not for me. I pull my scraps and blend colors that are appealing. It can be done it a much better manner.
Glad you use your scraps. Sometimes I feel like my scraps just need to be used and I don’t have enough of one color for inspiration so I throw it all together and go for it. Happy quilting. I have a lot more organized quilts planned.

You are so enthusiastic about what you are creating! Just like a true artist! I cannot wait to see your completed creation! Yippie can’t wait😉
I’m so glad I could help get your sewjo going!
Find it relaxing watching you sew ❤
I'm so glad! Thank you
I loved watching this episode. It helped me to understand about keeping my seams going the same way and how I can still use my oops to be useful because I just started sewing and quilting what I have heart to do. Thank you!
I’m so glad you are enjoying the quilting journey! There is a lot of forgiveness and freedom with scrappy sewing
I have many scraps and I sew them together like you do. It is therapeutic for me. I like seeing how others do it so thank you for this tutorial.
So glad it inspired you. It is very therapeutic. I agree. Thanks my friend
I just started sewing my scars together and just love it. This video gave me new ideas. Thank you!
So glad you are enjoying the quilting journey!
I love watching people sew! It is as relaxing as sewing myself! 💙
Awesome. Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it
I LOVE HOW YOU USE LARGER PIECES. I'VE MADE PROBABLY 20 SCRAPPY QUILTS & MY STASH NEVER SEEMS TO GO DOWN....I'LL HAVE TO STOP MAKING REGULAR QUILTS & CONTINUE TO DO MINDLESS SCRAPPIES. THANK YOU FOR SHARING..MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
So glad it inspired you. Merry Christmas to you too!
A gift of a bag of scraps is like a treasure chest for a quilter.
Yes, a huge bag of candy. Like the best Christmas present. So yummy
What a beautiful piece of art! Reminds me of Jeremiah 17:14. God, pick up the pieces. Put me back together again. You are my praise!
I'm so glad my quilt brought you peace and a connection to your faith!
Lovely visual!
Scrappy quilts are my favorite!
Thank you my friend Me too. They are challenging even though there are no rules.
I’ve made 60 7 1/2” crumb blocks and loved every minute of it. I found it freeing and relaxing! I had just made 2 quilts and 7 table runners for Christmas gifts and was burned out. This helped. Thanks for this video!

I love watching you sew scraps together , and cutting, but ironing not so much, lol. I also love the fabric on your ironing board. Please keep doing this for all your fans, like me.❤️❤️❤️.
Thank you so much my friend. I know, ironing, But it does make a difference in the finished product. New videos coming soon

It was very interesting to see your "strips first" approach. Most crumb blocks start with the smallest bits going out to strips around edges. I will have to see what works for me.
It is all about what works for you. Happy quilting!
I love looking at the different fabrics.
Me too my friend. Me too.
I absolutely love scrappy quilts and have made many…..in fact most of my quilts have been scrappy ❤ and I have been quilting since 1984🤪
How wonderful. Thank you my friend Happy quilting
At the begin of the quilt, i thought..NO WAY..., now i may try one myself! Absolutely gorgeous 😍
It’s so rewarding to turn scrap fabric into something beautiful!
I love it. I like the big blocks. Use a black border. Enjoy.
Yes, great idea. Thanks so much my friend

That is what I have been working on most of the year. Just can not waste my scraps and what
Others have given me
So glad you find it relaxing to sew with scraps! I love them too

Yes! I think that's a great idea. Thank you! 😊. I haven’t put it on the long arm and consider doing just that every other time I look at it. Happy quilting
This was fun to watch. I think if you have some of the scraps left you could add them then add borders. Great job
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! That is a great idea
I do collage quilting it is similar to scrappy quilts. I love it. I make pictures with fussy cut fabrics. It's like a puzzle
I love collage quilting too, it's such a fun way to use scraps. Do you use raw edge appliqué
I did a king size scrappy string quilt and I did it “quilt as you go”. My daughter loves it🇨🇦. New sub from small town Manitoba, Canada
Ho exciting. Glad you enjoyed watching. Quilt as you go, great. So glad your daughter loves it. Such a rewarding gift
Enjoy your scraps peeps! An unforseen accident had me losing years and years worth and I feel as though I've lost my right arm.
I'll eventually get em built up again... but my words of wisdom would be... 'cherish those scraps! Hoard the wee boogers!'
All the best! Blessed be!
I agree, cherish those scraps! Happy quilting! Love how you expressed “hoard the wee boogers”. Love it. So true
Fun! Sewing machine sounds rough like it needs oiling. Scrappy quilts seem to be lots of work for me. I do love the look!
It's an old machine. It does need oiling. I agree, the quilts can be a lot of work but I love the results.
It’s a singer heavy duty machine, probably could use oiling, but they sound rough to begin with with.
Hi iv got lots of scraps left over im definitely going to have a go and use them up really enjoyed watching your video its turning out really nice ❤❤
Wonderful! Have fun. Glad I could help inspire you. Enjoy

Black solid is a good choice for sashing, gives the eye a place to rest from the chaos.
Yes, calms the chaos vThanks my friend

Wonderful work. I love to hear about your quilts and charity work. Your donations mean so much to those receiving the quilt
I love scraps, especially crumbs. I love making new fabric out of cast off and waste. I hate throwing anything away, that stuff costs good money!
Me too! I'm so glad you are saving scraps and making something beautiful.
I love making scrap fabric. You can make some awesome projects from the fabric. I have made totes, pillows, quilt tops, pot holders, table runners. You name it, you can make it! ❤

really lovely!
Thank you! 😊
I just finished a baby quilt.
I am making w scrappy quilt.
Plus, I am making a Kaffe Fassette quilt with appliqué vases on it.
Sounds like a lot of fun projects! Enjoy. Thanks my friend

I enjoyed this video so much that this is my second time watching it.❤❤❤
Thank you so much my friend! 🤗❤️
I feel it takes more imagination to make the scaly quilt. It’s challenging, but fun
Yes. Thanks my friend
In September I decided to make quilts for my family for Christmas. I have work from 8 to 5 most days. I needed to make 21 quilts. I have 3 more to go.
Wow, you're a fast sewer!! It would take me FOREVER to sew that many quilts!!!! 😄
@ I am not hand quilting them. I am using my grandmothers method. She tied quilts for the home beds. She was a seamstress and did make special quilts for wedding gifts and new babies. But at home her warm beds had tied quilts. That is what makes the difference in time.
Wow! You are an amazing quilter! Thank you so much my friend. Great work. Congratulations
@@WhereWendyCreates awe. Thank you.
I love it ❤❤
Thanks my friend
I made 3 queen sized rag quilts from scraps. 2 of them I gifted. I’m working on another rag quilt that will given to my hair stylist, throw sized.
That’s amazing! Thank you for sharing.
I LOVE IT.
Me too. Thank you so much 😊

A junk journal is like a diary for me. I keep tickets and photos and write memories and goals and plans
Love scrappy quilts but they’re not for everyone
Scraps can be any size
I’m with you. Cut them into usable sizes and make a quilt with a plan.
You took this pile of scraps turned into a really fun quilt. To me, this quilt top is full of positive energy and makes me smile! I saw big (very wonky) pieced blocks blended in like a modern art type log cabin. 👍🏻 Loved 🥰 this.
👍, I enjoyed your video.
Thanks so much my friend. Glad you liked it.
You could make a scrappy pillow sham to match your quilt.
Great idea. Thanks my friend
It awesome. I like making fabric from scraps
I'm so glad you find it relaxing to sew with scraps! Thank you my friend
I would like to see what you do after ironing?
You are going to love how simple it is! I try to keep pieces flat. Sew more on and quilt when finished
This is great! Love the no rhyme or reason - my brain is at peace - lol. Flyin' by the seat of my pants. You really can use all your scraps! Oh guess you did finish it - nothing in between then, correct?
Yes, it’s done and I love how it turned out! Thanks so much
This made me almost cry. Making a crumb quilt with so many usable pieces! 😱😱😱😱
Love seeing you create your wonderful masterpiece❣️keep up the wonderful video❣️💕💕💕
Awesome! Thanks so much my friend.
I'm making a brick patio quilt. It uses 2.5 x 4.5" rectangles. I'm using scraps
Sounds like fun! Thanks so much my friend.
Will you show your finished scrappy quilt?
Yes. 👍
Interesting technique. That quilt will be so heavy, I would not make one.
Surprisingly not heavy. Would be if I didn’t trim for straight edges. I will use light weight batting and a solid backing. Happy quilting
How many bobbins did you go through? Curious minds want to know. 😊
I think 3? Maybe four
I’ve done scrappy quilts and crumb quilts . I don’t leave the selvages in and I trim the wonky seam allowances . Huge seam allowances won’t quilt nicely IMO
Yes, you are right about the seam allowances! They would be a pain in the butt! Smile.
I cut my scraps into all different widths and lengths and shapes to make a crumb quilt. I have piles and piles of strips and shapes to be sewn together. I will have 6” blocks, and plan on not using the same fabric in the blocks next to each other.
To me, this is like a train wreck. It’s my OCD. It’s not my way, but you do you.
Perhaps a train wreck of scraps could be cut into squares and then outlined with a solid fabric like a window pane. This could create more calm in the chaos
To many tiny pieces in it . I like bigger peices
Wonderful. I love big scraps
To each his own.
ужас! У вас столько разных обрезков ткани - надо было хотя бы по цвету подобрать
Not enough for a king quilt in one color. I have more planned. I was recently gifted more scraps Happy quilting
It’s about scraps!
To each his own.
2 hr sewing scraps together…
Nothing special to me
Thanks my friend It was fun. What kind of quilting do you do?
You special
But you watched it
@ I didn’t . I skipped.
