I like to think the odyssey class was named after the galaxy class uss odyssey that was destroyed during the dominion war. would be a great tribute to all the people that lost their lives on that ship.
I always imagined given the size of the class and new slipstream/transwarp capabilities that the Odyssey class was designed to function not as a replacement for the Sovereign but as a new trans-galactic explorer ship. The primary mission to explore the Delta quadrant and establish new deep space colonies. Essentially be a mobile starbase, colonize a planet and establish a base of operations for future exploration..
9:24 "...that's Terrans for you." As much as I agree, I also really do enjoy rocking the Terran Lexington Dreadnought Cruiser. It's pretty zappy. Although, if you do look at the underside of the saucer section, there is a lip that has windows on it, that face backwards. Backwards, and directly into the emitter of the Agony Phaser Spinal Lance. So, here's hoping that those windows can go opaque before that thing fires.
@@McItoshi Okay, so if you look at the current state of social media, and youtube specifically, I do wonder what kind of wacky project the Federation's 24th/25th century-equivalent of Colin Furze would be doing for projects.
I love your style to these ship lore videos. You don't just sit there reciting technical specs; you give us the narrative context and worldbuilding of each ship.
I feel like they should name a subsequent Odyssey Class the "USS Ulysses", and then her auxiliary craft either the "Homer" (to homage the writer of the Odyssey), or the "Telemachus" (son of Odysseus).
The whole line of ships could be Odyssey references. U.S.S. Ithaca, U.S.S. Calypso, U.S.S. Penelope, U.S.S. Hades, U.S.S. Charybdis, U.S.S. Scylla, U.S.S. Lotus. There is no shortage of names and locations to draw from.
@@Shapes_Quality_Control the Cakypso exists in Trek. I think it was the name of the Enterprise-D's Calvin's yacht. But named fir Jacques Costeau's ship.
@@TheHeroRises Im not going to get bent out of shape for a couple of spelling or grammatical errors but at some point I have to be able to read the post.
Something I feel that is missing in this design is warp capability for the saucer section. I am sure that a warp core like the one on the USS Defiant could have been squeezed into the design along with a pair of small extendable nacels (coming out of the hull a bit like an aircraft lowering landing gear). The lack of this as a feature seems odd to me since without it the saucer section is not a very capable evacuation craft due to being limited to in-system travel and it also lacks tactical capabilities in that it has no chance to either keep up with or escape from an enemy combatant.
This wouldn’t be unheard of given that the saucer of the Prometheus had a tiny and singular retractable nacelle that could be deployed mid warp to maintain speed for a short duration even as separation was occurring at FTL speeds.
Me too. I read that Adam had no say on the ship once his concept became the winner he had to sign the rights of the design of the ship to CBS, STO, and Cryptic in 2011. He must of been surprised and absolutely is overjoyed and he is still. That his design ship not only featured in a game, but even greater gets to be featured in a TV show as an official Star Trek ship after well over a decade. I also credit Thomas and Cryptic for making it like the ship it is in game. They also credit Adam also.
The Sovereign class is still my favorite and a shame we didn't get more adventures with the Enterprise E. The Odyssey isn't bad, but I never liked the gap in it's neck.
@@bloodrave9578 The issue is, how do you differentiate the design? The other STO conpetition entries (and famous fan designs over the past 20 years such as Rivers3D's Excalibur and DJCurtis's Century) have been variations on the Sovereign, or something so wildly different from any Enterprise that you can't see the lineage. STO's lead ship artist provided a detailed 3/4 of the Odyssey model he built for the show, which revealed a forward secondary shuttle bay above the deflector.
@@ffnbbq That split neck is still a structural weakness and waste of potential interior volume. Fill the neck in and put more labs or more mission critical rooms into the filled in neck
So glad it's finally official that it's cannon as it's my favoite Star trek online ship and also my pick for cannon status because of the IRL history of the ship being made in a fan contest for STO.
I think one issue with the Sovereign class was that it was too focused on combat. Usually you leave "upgrade space" in your military vehicles. As much as 20% empty space, that you can use to later put in new systems, have room the replace stuff during upgrades. But the entire Anti-Borg line might have had no space left, being focused too much on combat performance with a minimal profile - which is a reason for the Sovereign to be replaced by the Odyssey rather quickly.
If I remember right, the Sovereign class was also a rushed into production one due to the needs thanks to the Borg and other threats, leading to some rather scared people deciding that they needed weaponry and armor and everything as heavily loaded as possible and the Dominion were creating issues even with the war not yet being more than on the horizon. Only reason that one was an Enterprise was due to the Enterprise-D getting destroyed similar to how the Enterprise-A came around
There was dedicated science and ambassadorial areas on the Sovereign. I wanted to see the Galaxy class use all the left over space wasted on families used to turn them into dreadnoughts. 3 nacelles of course.
Christopher I truly agree with you , , it freaking boggles my mind why they made the E such a smaller ship , especially when you consider the size of Borg Cube and Deridex Class Romulan Warbirds , , not forgetting even Ferengi Marauders are also massive , , , even late Klingon Chancellor Gowron's recent personal warship the ""Negg Var"" making your flagship Smaller seems excessively backward and retarded , , , , , how many troop divisions can your ship deliver ?? it's an important question for warships , , ,""Saber-Rattling"" not ""Pocket knife-Rattling"" , ,,😸👍👍
I'm so happy that they are using STO ships, it also makes sense if they are on a budget when it comes to modelling new ships since STO has a ton of ships they can use.
So, Zhiv/Ren is a reference to two characters from Shield of Tomorrow (a Critical Role-style streamed TTRPG playing Star Trek Adventures), Chief Engineer Zhiv and CPO Mala Ren. There are several such references in STO, including the USS Sally Ride admiralty ship (under the command of another SOT character, T’Lan) and Zazrit, one of the Orion vendors on DS9.
Great wee vid! I'm very excited to see the Enterprise-F in action in the next season of PIC. I hope they do it justice and if there are any interior shots then I also hope that respect is made to the bridge to make it look as it does in STO.
It’s a kilometre long 😮😮 Blimey, that’s a biiig ship! Love the Apollo Odyssey/Aquarius reference 😊 Good looking ship. My heart will always be with the Sovereign 1701-E, but looking forward to seeing the F in action in Picard S3
Yoyodyne is an homage to an old tv sitcom called Holmes & Yoyo. "Yoyo" was an android police officer partnered with a human cop and the company they produced him was called Yoyodyne. A lot of the characters' interactions were inspirations for Data by the Season 1 writers.
Thanks for information. But I must say its super lame to give name of starship components based on tv show :( the shows are written by mental children today.
Interesting. I know the name can be traced back to the 1960's but thought it was a reference to Yoyodyne Propulsion Systems from the _Buckaroo Banzai_ movie. I only have the vaguest of memories of Holmes and Yoyo show but I see the first episode is on TH-cam so I'm checking it out. Pretty cheesy so far but that's the 70's ha ha.🤖🖖✌
@@DennisMoore664 You are absolutely correct about the reference to Yoyodyne Propulsions in Buckeroo Banzai (btw props for the alpha-geek reference to a cult classic, go you!). That was itself a reference to the show Yoyo and Holmes. (the story goes that John Lithgow was a huge fan and bonded with the director over it.)
The oddessy, if the galaxy and sovereign had a child. It's what I like about the class, it's the best of both classes and shows a return to exploration but with the lessons learnt with the borg, dominion and romulan events that pushed sterfleet in a more military direction and the discovery of the damage that warp travel can do to the universe.
I'm of two minds. It's a pretty ship, everything you said, but to me it doesn't differentiate enough from the Sovereign. Up to now you could glance at an Enterprise and immediately know its class. This one is just a little too similar to it's predecessor in silhouette. Yes it's larger but still.
So, D and E had a baby, but you can see some Interpret in there too (the arrowhead shaped hull, even if very smoothed out D-style). I just wish it was also smoothed-out from the underside without a bunch of extra, needless detail (so a bit more D, which I never thought I would hear myself say, since I like D the least, relatively speaking only). Anyway, the biggest flaw with the D and E was the oval disc - make eithers shorter dimension equal to the largest, and both would look fantastic. That said, the arrowhead thing has grown on me - but this ship WOULD have been great for a large circular disc.
Oh wow, I thought I was the only one whose least favorite Enterprise was the D! It just looks like it ran into a wall, I mean, subspace distortion field, and got squashed like Wile E Coyote!
Prometheus Class, Defiant Class and the Sovereign Class are the Battleships of the Federation. Galaxy Class are the Weaponized Cruise Ships with mini shuttle ports, if you where to see the main shuttle bay in that virtual tour, the Galaxy Class is basically the Federations luxury liner but with weapons attached like a battleship disguised as a cruise ship basically. Nova Class are Weaponized Science vessels along the Intrepid Class. The Odyssey Class is basically a mini starbase with engines attached to it from what I’ve heard. California Class is the Federations Support vessel. The new Texas Class is the Federations Attack Drone Ship because it has no crew onboard it.
You reading the ship's component names while I'm looking at the visual display you put up really reminds me of Starship Creator. I loved that game so much when I was a kid.
I'd rather they show the E in this last season to give the ship a proper send off with showing the F in blueprints in the finale for the "next Enterprise".
Given the way they have done other retcons to fit with show lore I expect STO will retcon the launch and other lore of the Enterprise-F to match with Picard season 3.
i like to imagen it actually gets a revamped material when it gets officially shown in the show to match what the show did... and if even we just get a new version of the Odyssey... making it surprisingly the FIFTH version of that ship we would get... seriously already there are four versions of the Odyssey class that the Enterprise F is, or would have been, one from t5 odyssey bundle which was the Enterprise F first launch look, t6 Odyssey Bundle which was the Enterprise F's Refit look, Legendary Bundle which has what the Odyssey could have looked like before, and the latest is the Terrain Bundle which has the Enterprise F from the Terrain universe... XD im pretty sure the COntitution was the only ship to have MULTIPLE versions of itself, one from TOS, one from TMP, One From Kelvin, One from DISCO, and one from Cage... and if we count from STO we even have another which is the Inbetween of TMP and TOS which is Phase II... Odyssey is closing the gap of mutiple versions of the same enterprise class XD
I hope the new shows don't destroy the oddessy class. I don't want it turning into another star destroyer like every other ship in new Trek. I want good old fashion phasers that act like phasers and not canons.
The mass use of pulse weapons was only a thing in the Reboot movies (AU5) and Disco-Picard series (AU6). This as a fall back, given the weakness of Starfleet shields at that point in that universe's history. The pulse weapons also function as countermeasures against torpedoes and attacking vessels. There was also the option for beam weapons, but the concussive damage caused by pulse weapons made them much better to use in a normal ship-to-ship combat. Essentially acting like miniature Photon Torpedoes. Did not help in "ST: Beyond" though, but that is the point of swarm tactics. Pulse Phasers in the "Original Continuity" where only ever really seen in ships like the Defiant-Class (DS9), which had pulse phasers for their concussive effects on targets. The ship did have beam phasers, and were used, but infrequently. It was also likely needed for the targeting computers to keep track of the target. "Once I have my finger on you, you are not getting away." Pulse Weapons are very much for fighting. Beam weapons are more flexible, easily to be "gentle" with, for science, or disabling and capturing other vessels. The idea that the use of pulse weapons would "destroy" a ship, I will assume you mean as a concept in your mind, is laughable. I do mean that the way it sounds. You are not looking at the details presented in a given setting. It is a sci-fi franchise not a religion. The addition of pulse weapons is simply that a sensible addition to the available arsenal of the setting. So, no one is turning Star Trek ships into Imperial Star Destroyers. I can not even fathom where you might come up with such at notion.
Personally and it’s the ship I use in game but the Sojourner class saucer on the Odyssey hull and nacelles looks absolutely fantastic. The wide galaxy class look but with the sleek the odyssey gives.
The path of the lore for the Enterprise-F has indeed *been a long road.* The ship mixes the size and luxury of the Galaxy class with the speed and firepower of the Sovreign class to forge quite the starship. I am curious as to what retcons will be done & how effective or not they will be in regard to all the STO lore. Also, I'll state again how I'm partial to the Endeavor sub-class.
The Sovereign Class DID NOT replace the Galaxy Class. It replaced the Excelsior Class. The Galaxy Class continued to be built until it was replaced by the Odyssey Class in 2400. There is, on average, 40 years between multi mission flagship classes: 2245 - Constitution 2285 - Excelsior 2325 - Ambassador 2360 - Galaxy 2400 - Odyssey The Sovereign Class fell into a defense/support role, replacing the second fleet of repurposed Excelsiors that were built in the 2330-40s, after the original, multi-mission Excelsiors were replaced by the Ambassador Class.
@@exoticspeedefy7916, by this time scale, a ship class would last approx. 80 years. In the Galaxy Class example, they were originally launched in 2360, with ships coming out over the next decades. By 2400, they had ceased production in favor of the new Odyssey Class, and the original Galaxy’s began to be replaced, with the later ships of the Galaxy Class lasting through the 2430-40s. Of course, ST:Picard turned this timeline on its ear.
@@michaeldemarco9950 We know that in STO the odyssey has been replaced by the Yorktown class technically speaking, as a refit after the Iconian war sometime in 2410. (due to flaws in the odyssey class design) No, Odyssey is a different class of ship altogether, the Ross class (a galaxy class) was actually the next ship to replace the original Galaxy in cannon as the next version. The only replacement was the Enterprise namesake to a different class of ship
@@exoticspeedefy7916, by that measure, the Yorktown Class is a refinement of the Odyssey Class, so fits comfortably within it’s 40 year build cycle. Same thing between the Galaxy and the Ross Class. Same space-frame; just refined.
I wonder at what point do they have to change the Cochran scale again? Like, this ship's max warp is 9.99 so will the next Enterprise be 9.999? And 9.9999 after that? It's getting to where the differences are hard to distinguish at a glance.
This has always been the case unfortunately and Star Trek has never been too picky about these kinds of details. Not without good reason kind you (story>world building minutiae) but you’ll likely never find a consistent scale. Understand that at the end of the day all that really matters is that the show can easily and effectively communicate to the audience “very fast.”
I like to think that was the reason why ships in the alternate future in “All Good Things…” were capable of speeds of warp 13: because the scale had been rewritten to allow for better communication rather than hoping someone remembered to put, say, five “9”s after the decimal rather than four.
I like what STO does, where it has a “warp” number below 10 and a “transwarp” number above 10. Since you can’t go faster than “warp 10,” because warp ten is infinite velocity, I interpret a number like “transwarp 12” as a way to differentiate numbers like “warp 9.996” and “warp 9.997.”
Is this new Enterprise's computer system controlled by three primary main processing cores, cross-linked with a redundant melacortz ramistat fourteen kiloquad interface modules? The core element of which being based on an FTL nanoprocessor with twenty five bilateral kelilactirals, with twenty of those being slaved into the primary heisenfram terminal? Just curious.
No, it's a quantum flux state machine emulator running on a trilithium substrate matrix core temporally shifted into 32 separate interphase ratios in order to maximize throughput and minimize heat generated per teraflop.
You are incorrect in 1 aspect; the ship and Auxiliary craft is named specifically for the command and lunar modulus of Apollo 13. all the all the CSM and Lunar moduals that went to the moon had individual names.
IT A BIG BOI Also I like the Terran Empire universe's concept of the Nebula-Like module behind the saucer. Make a prime universe version of that but it's an advanced sensor array or added capacity for evacuations or a massive sickbay/hospital module design.
🖖😎👍It's a very cool and great looking starship indeed, Any ways a very great job at informatively explaining and executing everything in very nice detail to its fullest indeed👌...
The Mirror Lexington class also has a spinal lance and can use both the Aquarius escort and a single set of fighters. It's sort of a carrier without the main drawback of a carrier since it has a 4 4 weapon configuration rather than the carrier specific 3 3.
If you really think about it. The Odyssey class I don't think replaced the Sovereign Class. I fully think it replaced the Galaxy. Galaxy class was still being produced even with the Sovereign in production. But again this is my thought. It only became cannon because the show creators were lazy and did not really design their own ships unlike show runners of old. They were like there is this video game that has ships why don't we take those. But with all that said there are only really 3 Cannon Enterprises. NCC-1701, NCC 1701-A and NCC-1701-D. Cause every show after some seasons of TNG all of it is Beta Cannon seeing it was not from the mind of Gene Roddenberry. DS9 though to Strange New Worlds is all Beta cannon seeing it is BASED ON what Gene created.
I love the odyssey class and find it fits perfectly in universe, used it on STO but preferred the wide saucers version over the 3 variants in game, grew up in TNG so i guess thats why
Sadly to the eyes of cbs/paramont, STO isn't canon, not story wise anyway. They take the ships but care not for the material, and while i am so very happy to see the ody finally become canon, the story writing of STO has been so much better the the shows of recent. Take the launch of the odyssey class in STO for example. It launched from Utopia Planitia shipyards with your character giving it the shakedown run when a Klingon raiding party suddenly showed up trying to get the jump on starfleet's shiny new toy. It was a small mission for the anniversary event at the time, but it was great and blended into the story at the time of the Federation and Klingons being at war. This event also announced Shon as captain of the F and had the release of the DS9 "Boldly They Rode" mission series. Which was also fantastically written and made.
I have to agree, notice he mentions the game adds the quantum slipstream, a detail that game has a storyline for, and completely destroys Discovery’s entire future-Starfleet storyline
I also agree. I was always impressed with how STO managed to integrate all the spin-offs and various timeliness into one coherent narrative. Too bad Paramount has little interest in learning from them.
@@lucasbarrett8137 I don't recall any significant STO storytelling explaining why everyone and every ship (no matter how old) suddenly had quantum slipstream drives - it just exists for player convenience and from an in-universe perspective frankly makes ships specifically built for slipstream like the Vesta less unique. And the first or second episode of Discovery S3 actually remembered slipstream required benamite crystals, which were already rare/unstable back on Voyager, so I dunno what you're talking about.
Hi Rick iam KC from Michigan USA and I hope you had wounderful Christmas. And Nice newyear. I cant wait to Picard Season 3 to see Enterprise-F in root TNG movies swries Kelvintime.
Just read on Star Trek logs that the Enterprise F in Picard is to be decommissioned on Frontier Day and the fireworks we see are for her final flight. It said her systems were severely compromised during some mission. It has been in service for about 15 years and has had numerous captains.
Which I think is BS. Fans have been clamoring to get the Odyssey Enterprise canonized for over a decade, and Paramount finally gives in only for the debut to be it's decommissioning. I literally chucked my phone across the room when I read that post.
USS Odyssey & USS Verity were separate vessels built concurrently both had a different Warp & Slipstream drive setup with the intent of working out which was the most efficient for the class Verity had separate Warp & Slipstream Drives whilst the Odyssey had a joined system. Odyssey's was found the more efficient system after a year of testing thus Verity was refit with this system.
Can you do the Yorktown for your legacy series. The name is used a lot, Yorktown became the Enterprise-A, Yorktown station in Star Trek Beyond, the Yorktown refit in Star Trek Online, etc...
Hm... no mention of the birthday version without the Aquarius? For those not playing STO at the time, originally the Odyssey came out on a birthday of the game as a single variant without the Aquarius. This could only be aquired during the birthday event. Later the ship came out as the three specialized variants available to buy from the in-game ship either alone or as a bundle of all three, which all had the Aquarius as part of their model, though you still need a special console installed to uncouple the smaller ship, which only comes with one of them (naturally that's only an issue if you didn't buy the whole bundle to begin with). They could easily coopt this into the TV continuity by having the original prototype vessel just have a regular stren, or an addition shuttle bay there and have the Aquarius dock as a modifications for later ships. While I am highly critical of the Kurzman series, I am still kind of glad that they picked this desing to put on TV. It is a beautiful design and just so much prettier than the USS Pizza Cutter or any other STD ships.
I always wondered why they didn't just create a ship design with an absurdly large amount of transporter buffers and a secondary warp core to power it, specifically for maximizing the number of civilians they could evacuate.
Ya know if you look at the Odyssey Class from above it has a Sovereign Class look to it but only from above, though I think I might have already mention this on this video.
This is a bit of a tangent, but I wanted to share a thought on the shift in design ethos between the mid and late 23rd century Starfleet as exemplified by the Galaxy vs Sovereign. I know this game isn't cannon, but I loved the depicted difference between Post-Dominion era Galaxy and Sovereign in Star Trek Bridge Command (early 2000s). In that game, the Galaxy was a very efficient ship. It could run with full power to weapons, shields, sensors and engines at 100% energy draw without touching the battery banks. You could shuffle around power distribution to keep your battery reserve, or overclock all systems to 125% draw and start draining the battery. In effect, you could keep a Galaxy class fully powered for as long as the ship was in battle without making any sacrifices, and could boost weapons or shields without touching other systems power. This made the Galaxy a great patrol and line capital ship. Truly a multi-role beast. In contrast, the Sovereign was like a shark. She had better sensors and engines, and much upgraded weapons and shields. The quantum torpedoes in particular packed a nasty punch, and the phasers were upgrades from the Galaxy. She hit hard and fast, and her shields were more durable to direct fire. However, this came at a massive cost. Her reactor couldn't keep up with the power draw. At 100% power to weapons, engines, shields and sensors, Sovereign would guzzle battery power leaving you with about 10 minutes before exhaustion. At that point, you'd either have to reduce power draw to one of the tactical systems, or retreat from combat to recharge and come back. I really loved this depiction and it just felt right. The Galaxy was built for endurance first. Combat philosophy prior to the Borg was focused on weathering attacks and defending on the tactical and strategic levels. Starfleet wanted to defend and hold while their diplomats bought time to come up with a solution. This relied on Starfleet's assumed technical supremacy. The Borg changed all that. Suddenly, Starfleet was hit with the realization that they weren't the best equipped force in the Milky Way. Maybe they never were. A real fear emerged that they may encounter a foe that they couldn't outlast. The Sovereign, Defiant, Akira and, loathe as I am to praise him, the Prometheus all share a similar design philosophy: hit hard and fast to cripple an opponent while maintaining enough survivability to retreat if needed.
6.6 million tons seems to be a bit too heavy for a ship of that size. Sure, maybe duranium is quite dense, but there is little lore supporting that. A Gerald R. Ford class carrier weighs about 100,000 tons. To make up the rough dimensions of the Odyssey, you need 3 Ford's long and five wide. That's 15 Ford class CV's, which comes to 1.5 million tons. Far short of the 6.6 of the Odyssey.
Don't use modern armor for SCI Fic logic on armor. Anyway the reasoning would be new systems could be a lot more heavier. Plus there's the new wrap drive and slipstream drive. I heard parts are also have ablative armor I them too.
8:54 a quick search on Wikipedia reveals that both the Odyssey and Aquarius names were on Apollo 13...they DO realize that Apollo 13 was the mission that BLEW UP in transit to the moon from a faulty oxygen tank?
I think the crew of the 1701 F will be the lunch pin to the shows sub plot and critical to the finale episode setting up the new future generations star trek with the Enterprise f at it's center for the new show
I think it would have been better if they brought back to the 1701 E with the F being shown in the finale in the blueprints for the "next Enterprise" to allow more of satisfying send off to the E (which we've only seen in First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis).
I think it'd be kind of funny to have someone make a comment about not liking the retro looks of the ships. Like when modern car makers take styles and update them from other areas. I want to say Cadillac did that for a while, making luxury cars with a 1920s look. It'd be a kind of fun nod and help with continuity.
I'm ambivalent about the split neck but accept that it is a signature part of this ship's look. One thing I'd have preferred was if the secondary hull did not extend forward of the neck, but instead was flush with it. Overall, this ship looks good in the same way its predecessor did. I particularly like the smaller ship (I'm tempted to call it a new 'captain's yacht') and the way both components look good after separation.

Although, if you do look at the underside of the saucer section, there is a lip that has windows on it, that face backwards. Backwards, and directly into the emitter of the Agony Phaser Spinal Lance. So, here's hoping that those windows can go opaque before that thing fires.

It does have it's own warp core. There are two cores and two main computers.
This wouldn’t be unheard of given that the saucer of the Prometheus had a tiny and singular retractable nacelle that could be deployed mid warp to maintain speed for a short duration even as separation was occurring at FTL speeds.
I can literally hear the smile in your voice as you talk about this ship now being cannon, and I'm right there with you!!
U're right here with interstellar journey advancement :)
my absolute favorite ship in all of star trek, the odyssey just hits in the right spot.
I love the fact that they named one of the ships, USS Verity. A nice nod to Verity Lambert.
Beautiful looking ship. It achieves a nice balance between the D and E.
The Sovereign class is still my favorite and a shame we didn't get more adventures with the Enterprise E. The Odyssey isn't bad, but I never liked the gap in it's neck.
That gap could house a hanger for more shuttles or fighters
It's a unnecessary weakness structurally. I thought Starfleet understood that since the Excelsior class. Thick neck or no neck is best.
@@scottyb68 Also a waste of potential interior space

I love the pathfinder class.
Plus, they had red blinky light things running down the middle of corridors for some reason. Those things take up a lot of space as well.
@@Corbomite_Meatballs with current OLED tech those lights might hardly take up any space

Like a constitution...
I'm thinking that star trek is never going to give up the 4 section starship design based on the constitution class.

So happy this is on screen canon now, I just wonder if they'll explain on screen what happened to the E?

I'd rather they show the E in this last season to give the ship a proper send off with showing the F in blueprints in the finale for the "next Enterprise".
I came for the lore but stayed for the existential crisis and fading light in ric's voice

I haven't been fond of the latest Trek media, but I do love the Odyssey-class and I'm hyped that it's getting some screen time.
I hope the new shows don't destroy the oddessy class. I don't want it turning into another star destroyer like every other ship in new Trek. I want good old fashion phasers that act like phasers and not canons.
It's not going to be a hero ship.
"Once I have my finger on you, you are not getting away."
Pulse Weapons are very much for fighting.
@@DocWolph the TOS Enterprise used pulse and regular phaser beams as well. People don't seem to remember that.

There is, on average, 40 years between multi mission flagship classes:
2245 - Constitution
2285 - Excelsior
2325 - Ambassador
2360 - Galaxy
2400 - Odyssey
The Sovereign Class fell into a defense/support role, replacing the second fleet of repurposed Excelsiors that were built in the 2330-40s, after the original, multi-mission Excelsiors were replaced by the Ambassador Class.
So the Galaxy class was decommissioned in 2400?
A Yoyodyne warp core? Is their company motto "The future begins tomorrow"?

I like that the aquarius class shows a pretty strong design lineage from the Syndey class, which is one of my favorite ugly duckling designs.

It's a beautiful ship and it looks like the designer got the idea by flipping a spoon upside down and tacking nacelles onto it.

The Odyssey class reminds me a great deal of the Avenger class from ST:OL, but more streamlined.
Nice Ship, love the style and look!
Heck Roddenberry's original story pitch for Star Trek had the main ship designed as Yorktown, not Enterprise.
Interesting choice to name the ship pair specifically after those of Apollo 13
Nice! Thank you!

Hm... no mention of the birthday version without the Aquarius?
Great vid, as always. You mentioned it have 4 launchers. Are those photon, Quantum or multipurpose launchers for both?
I always wondered why they didn't just create a ship design with an absurdly large amount of transporter buffers and a secondary warp core to power it, specifically for maximizing the number of civilians they could evacuate.
Ya know if you look at the Odyssey Class from above it has a Sovereign Class look to it but only from above, though I think I might have already mention this on this video.
7:28 I imagine that the hyper impulse engines are Advance impulse x 10 that produce more speed with less energy ~ 0.25C to say 0.5C
I heard parts are also have ablative armor I them too.
pleeeeeease, paramount, make the Hestia class canon! would love to see the USS Legend bieng a part of this.
8:54 a quick search on Wikipedia reveals that both the Odyssey and Aquarius names were on Apollo 13...they DO realize that Apollo 13 was the mission that BLEW UP in transit to the moon from a faulty oxygen tank?
Technology seems to have improved quite a bit by the 25th century. Now when things blow up on a Starfleet ship, it just kills people with rocks.
"Those are...certainly...words."
I love it! :-)
It's a good thing it started off in startrek online or it would almost certainly be a lootbox ship
Phenomenal video bud…loved it
The most beautiful ship that ever entered the star trek universe 🌌 😍
gotta love the odyssey class with the galaxy skin
I think the crew of the 1701 F will be the lunch pin to the shows sub plot and critical to the finale episode setting up the new future generations star trek with the Enterprise f at it's center for the new show
I think it would have been better if they brought back to the 1701 E with the F being shown in the finale in the blueprints for the "next Enterprise" to allow more of satisfying send off to the E (which we've only seen in First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis).
The Odyssey Class is awsome! I loved it since it was a thing in STO and it makes the Enterprise F the perfect follow up for the E :)
Specifically, Odyssey and Aquarius were the names given to the Apollo 13 (LOL) command and lunar (respectively) modules.
They need to fill in the gaps between the primary and secondary hulls!
That's why you build them to be moduler. Even the current U..S. super carrier is built that way.
True that's why we have like 9 versions of this ship.
That smaller ship must be the size of the Enterprise with no bloody B, C, or D!
@@EdKolis or maybe just the NX. Either way, that's some captain's yatcht. Wondering if we're getting too big for the relatively modest Star Trek universe assumptions about resources.
I like Enterprise F
My 2 questions: What happened to the Enterprise-E? And how will the ship's lore and backstory change now that it's Canon?
It could have just been retired. (AFAIK) the Enterprise-A and -B were retired. It strikes me as somewhat weird that so many Federation flagships have been destroyed, as that's not usually the image you want to give to allies or enemies.
@@pills- retired in less then 40 years of service 🫤. US Navy gets ships gets 45-50 years
@@williamerazo3921 we also know that Starfleet's ships are designed with a hull lifespan of *well* more than 50 years. Most don't make it that long, but the hulls are intended to last that long unless they are destroyed.
@@pills- Enterpr8se-A was said to be scheduled for decommissioning and retirement at the end of Undiscovered Country. Don't know of there's any Canon information (either alpha Canon or beta canon) on the fate of the Enterprise-B.
@@vic5015 In Beta Canon atleast. The crew of the ship perished from an unknown infection. This is from one of the reference books. USS Enterprise Owner's Workshop Manual.
I wish they’d do a series on the Enterprise F with Shon as it’s canon captain. I feel it’d make for an awesome and different series by not having a human as the main character.
I'd love a vid covering the universe class sometime 😁
Very excited to see her in live action next year.
The Galaxy was a testament to Starfleets hubris and stagnation
The sovereign is a testament to Starfleets newly woken up to the realities of the threats beyond the alpha and Beta quadrants.
The Odyssey is the testament of those Starfleets mad lads who wanted a ship that truly embodied an old human religion and lifestyle of "LEEEEEEROOOOOY JENKINS!" With the slipstream being the new shoulder pads.
They say why change of tone of Star Trek? Your summary is bang on why it changed massively. The only reason it's not done well and is not that panned that much better is cause of shockingly bad writing and how badly all the recent shows and movies have executed the later era after DS9. Really is a shame how badly they keep handling the IP.
Really feels like they're have to deep and running out of creative ideas. Even though they could of done simple it seems grandiose seems even more preferred even tho it makes it too complicated that it is like domino effect. Once one goes down the rest will follow.
I really hated the detached saucer section of the Galaxy class, I have hoped that nonsense would be done anyway with.
