Addendum! While the Odyssey class may still be in service and top of the line (ish) in 2402, the Enterprise-F may not be according to recent lore drops!

Yeah, it shows up just to get decommissioned, which feels like a disingenuous gesture from Paramount.
"Oh, you want the Odyssey class to be canon? Well, here you go -- whoops! It's gone now, too bad. Guess you'll have no choice but to like the Titan-A, which is basically a Constitution refit we've thrown a new coat of paint on. Doesn't it look nostalgic?!?"
(If you can't tell I don't like of a lot of the post- Discovery aesthetics the recent art department has been making. STO already had some beautiful fan designs and high quality models.)

@@pyronuke4768 Season 3 is unfolding so it's tough to speculate as to what will be happening to The Enterprise-F other than it is getting decommissioned, but it would seem to be a d*ck-move that decommissioning it isn't enough, that the show will destroy it to serve a story purpose. I'm speculating that we're going to see the Enterprise-G at the end of Picard.
My only real nit-pick of Season 3 is that the TNG crew are Not on The Enterprise.

I always imagined given the size of the class and new slipstream/transwarp capabilities that the Odyssey class was designed to function not as a replacement for the Sovereign but as a new trans-galactic explorer ship. The primary mission to explore the Delta quadrant and establish new deep space colonies. Essentially be a mobile starbase, colonize a planet and establish a base of operations for future exploration..

He must of been surprised and absolutely is overjoyed and he is still. That his design ship not only featured in a game, but even greater gets to be featured in a TV show as an official Star Trek ship after well over a decade. I also credit Thomas and Cryptic for making it like the ship it is in game. They also credit Adam also.

I think one issue with the Sovereign class was that it was too focused on combat.
Usually you leave "upgrade space" in your military vehicles. As much as 20% empty space, that you can use to later put in new systems, have room the replace stuff during upgrades.
But the entire Anti-Borg line might have had no space left, being focused too much on combat performance with a minimal profile - which is a reason for the Sovereign to be replaced by the Odyssey rather quickly.

If I remember right, the Sovereign class was also a rushed into production one due to the needs thanks to the Borg and other threats, leading to some rather scared people deciding that they needed weaponry and armor and everything as heavily loaded as possible and the Dominion were creating issues even with the war not yet being more than on the horizon.
Only reason that one was an Enterprise was due to the Enterprise-D getting destroyed similar to how the Enterprise-A came around

Something I feel that is missing in this design is warp capability for the saucer section. I am sure that a warp core like the one on the USS Defiant could have been squeezed into the design along with a pair of small extendable nacels (coming out of the hull a bit like an aircraft lowering landing gear). The lack of this as a feature seems odd to me since without it the saucer section is not a very capable evacuation craft due to being limited to in-system travel and it also lacks tactical capabilities in that it has no chance to either keep up with or escape from an enemy combatant.

    • @ryanharkness6303

So, D and E had a baby, but you can see some Interpret in there too (the arrowhead shaped hull, even if very smoothed out D-style). I just wish it was also smoothed-out from the underside without a bunch of extra, needless detail (so a bit more D, which I never thought I would hear myself say, since I like D the least, relatively speaking only).
Anyway, the biggest flaw with the D and E was the oval disc - make eithers shorter dimension equal to the largest, and both would look fantastic. That said, the arrowhead thing has grown on me - but this ship WOULD have been great for a large circular disc.

The mass use of pulse weapons was only a thing in the Reboot movies (AU5) and Disco-Picard series (AU6). This as a fall back, given the weakness of Starfleet shields at that point in that universe's history. The pulse weapons also function as countermeasures against torpedoes and attacking vessels. There was also the option for beam weapons, but the concussive damage caused by pulse weapons made them much better to use in a normal ship-to-ship combat. Essentially acting like miniature Photon Torpedoes. Did not help in "ST: Beyond" though, but that is the point of swarm tactics.
Pulse Phasers in the "Original Continuity" where only ever really seen in ships like the Defiant-Class (DS9), which had pulse phasers for their concussive effects on targets. The ship did have beam phasers, and were used, but infrequently. It was also likely needed for the targeting computers to keep track of the target. "Once I have my finger on you, you are not getting away."
Pulse Weapons are very much for fighting. Beam weapons are more flexible, easily to be "gentle" with, for science, or disabling and capturing other vessels.
The idea that the use of pulse weapons would "destroy" a ship, I will assume you mean as a concept in your mind, is laughable. I do mean that the way it sounds. You are not looking at the details presented in a given setting. It is a sci-fi franchise not a religion. The addition of pulse weapons is simply that a sensible addition to the available arsenal of the setting.
So, no one is turning Star Trek ships into Imperial Star Destroyers. I can not even fathom where you might come up with such at notion.

The Sovereign Class DID NOT replace the Galaxy Class. It replaced the Excelsior Class. The Galaxy Class continued to be built until it was replaced by the Odyssey Class in 2400.
There is, on average, 40 years between multi mission flagship classes:
    2245 - Constitution
    2285 - Excelsior
    2325 - Ambassador
    2360 - Galaxy

i like to imagen it actually gets a revamped material when it gets officially shown in the show to match what the show did... and if even we just get a new version of the Odyssey... making it surprisingly the FIFTH version of that ship we would get... seriously already there are four versions of the Odyssey class that the Enterprise F is, or would have been, one from t5 odyssey bundle which was the Enterprise F first launch look, t6 Odyssey Bundle which was the Enterprise F's Refit look, Legendary Bundle which has what the Odyssey could have looked like before, and the latest is the Terrain Bundle which has the Enterprise F from the Terrain universe... XD im pretty sure the COntitution was the only ship to have MULTIPLE versions of itself, one from TOS, one from TMP, One From Kelvin, One from DISCO, and one from Cage... and if we count from STO we even have another which is the Inbetween of TMP and TOS which is Phase II... Odyssey is closing the gap of mutiple versions of the same enterprise class XD

Sadly to the eyes of cbs/paramont, STO isn't canon, not story wise anyway. They take the ships but care not for the material, and while i am so very happy to see the ody finally become canon, the story writing of STO has been so much better the the shows of recent. Take the launch of the odyssey class in STO for example. It launched from Utopia Planitia shipyards with your character giving it the shakedown run when a Klingon raiding party suddenly showed up trying to get the jump on starfleet's shiny new toy. It was a small mission for the anniversary event at the time, but it was great and blended into the story at the time of the Federation and Klingons being at war. This event also announced Shon as captain of the F and had the release of the DS9 "Boldly They Rode" mission series. Which was also fantastically written and made.

This has always been the case unfortunately and Star Trek has never been too picky about these kinds of details. If you really think about it. The Odyssey class I don't think replaced the Sovereign Class. I fully think it replaced the Galaxy. Galaxy class was still being produced even with the Sovereign in production. But again this is my thought. It only became cannon because the show creators were lazy and did not really design their own ships unlike show runners of old. They were like there is this video game that has ships why don't we take those. But with all that said there are only really 3 Cannon Enterprises. NCC-1701, NCC 1701-A and NCC-1701-D. Cause every show after some seasons of TNG all of it is Beta Cannon seeing it was not from the mind of Gene Roddenberry. DS9 though to Strange New Worlds is all Beta cannon seeing it is BASED ON what Gene created.

This is a bit of a tangent, but I wanted to share a thought on the shift in design ethos between the mid and late 23rd century Starfleet as exemplified by the Galaxy vs Sovereign.
I know this game isn't cannon, but I loved the depicted difference between Post-Dominion era Galaxy and Sovereign in Star Trek Bridge Command (early 2000s). In that game, the Galaxy was a very efficient ship. It could run with full power to weapons, shields, sensors and engines at 100% energy draw without touching the battery banks. You could shuffle around power distribution to keep your battery reserve, or overclock all systems to 125% draw and start draining the battery. In effect, you could keep a Galaxy class fully powered for as long as the ship was in battle without making any sacrifices, and could boost weapons or shields without touching other systems power. This made the Galaxy a great patrol and line capital ship. Truly a multi-role beast.
In contrast, the Sovereign was like a shark. She had better sensors and engines, and much upgraded weapons and shields. The quantum torpedoes in particular packed a nasty punch, and the phasers were upgrades from the Galaxy. She hit hard and fast, and her shields were more durable to direct fire. However, this came at a massive cost. Her reactor couldn't keep up with the power draw. At 100% power to weapons, engines, shields and sensors, Sovereign would guzzle battery power leaving you with about 10 minutes before exhaustion. At that point, you'd either have to reduce power draw to one of the tactical systems, or retreat from combat to recharge and come back.
I really loved this depiction and it just felt right. The Galaxy was built for endurance first. Combat philosophy prior to the Borg was focused on weathering attacks and defending on the tactical and strategic levels. Starfleet wanted to defend and hold while their diplomats bought time to come up with a solution. This relied on Starfleet's assumed technical supremacy. The Borg changed all that. Suddenly, Starfleet was hit with the realization that they weren't the best equipped force in the Milky Way. Maybe they never were. A real fear emerged that they may encounter a foe that they couldn't outlast. The Sovereign, Defiant, Akira and, loathe as I am to praise him, the Prometheus all share a similar design philosophy: hit hard and fast to cripple an opponent while maintaining enough survivability to retreat if needed.

Hm... no mention of the birthday version without the Aquarius?
For those not playing STO at the time, originally the Odyssey came out on a birthday of the game as a single variant without the Aquarius. This could only be aquired during the birthday event.
Later the ship came out as the three specialized variants available to buy from the in-game ship either alone or as a bundle of all three, which all had the Aquarius as part of their model, though you still need a special console installed to uncouple the smaller ship, which only comes with one of them (naturally that's only an issue if you didn't buy the whole bundle to begin with).
They could easily coopt this into the TV continuity by having the original prototype vessel just have a regular stren, or an addition shuttle bay there and have the Aquarius dock as a modifications for later ships.
While I am highly critical of the Kurzman series, I am still kind of glad that they picked this desing to put on TV. It is a beautiful design and just so much prettier than the USS Pizza Cutter or any other STD ships.

Ford class carrier weighs about 100,000 tons. To make up the rough dimensions of the Odyssey, you need 3 Ford's long and five wide. That's 15 Ford class CV's, which comes to 1.5 million tons. Far short of the 6.6 of the Odyssey.

Really feels like they're have to deep and running out of creative ideas. Even though they could of done simple it seems grandiose seems even more preferred even tho it makes it too complicated that it is like domino effect. Once one goes down the rest will follow.

I wish they’d do a series on the Enterprise F with Shon as it’s canon captain. I feel it’d make for an awesome and different series by not having a human as the main character.
