What many patients do not understand is that the side effects are nothing compared to having a stroke! I’ve been an RN for 24 years. Strokes are devastating and deadly. Please, have your BP checked and listen to your physician.

I’m 41 and just got out on this medication for high BP and edema in my lower legs… I take my first dose tomorrow and have been so nervous after seeing all the comments about the side effects. You’re right, stroke prevention outweighs the fear of side effects for me.

In the case of this medication, side effects are definitely worth considering. My doctor prescribed this medication for high blood pressure. About a year later, I starting getting squamous cell carcinoma every six months or so. I did some research and found that this medication can increase your risk of getting squamous cell skin cancer can increase up to 30% with this medication. The risk of squamous cell skin cancer spreading and requiring Mohs surgery every six months is not fun either. There are other medications used to lower blood pressure. I do not recommend using this one.

I was taking both lisinopril-hydrochlorothiazi & amlodipine for over 6 years. After some health issues that landed me in the hospital twice taking test after test for heart, kidneys, liver, gallbladder, a cat scan & more. They couldn’t find a problem. When sitting at home after all these test, I discovered that all my symptoms were the also the side effects of the amlodipine. My BP at this point was running 145/80 & I was getting hypertension. My doctor didn’t think I should stop, but I did cold turkey. It’s been 17 days, my BP is 123/62 since stopping. Can I get your thoughts of just staying on the lisinopril-hydrochlorothiazi. I’ve also started loosing weight, no more swollen legs, BP’s down, head rushes, dizziness, heart beating in my throat are gone.
    Thank You
    Guy

Male, Age 63. Plant Based 6+ years (not sure of "vegan" as my twice weekly treat is a Subway Oatmeal-Raisin cookie on free cookie day) with fruits, veg, beans, grains. no dairy-meat. watch salt like an obsessive,. I had lost 160 pounds but in the past year regained 30 lbs, no changes in my eating content, but I have been eating more. Also, less exercise with the general feeling in the past year with the way things have been turned upside down. At my annual last month I was 170/100. Since then at home daily I have been measuring 142/88 to 150/90. Once 135/85. . Also, 160/92. Nothing near the 170/`100 at the office. Still, I know the at home readings are above the Big Pharma chart. Of course, my Dr. instantly leaped for his prescription pad but I told him now (which he didn't like as he wanted the sales commission). He gave me six months to a return visit.

After a year of taking Lisinopril, my hair started falling out. Same thing happened with Losartan and now with Amlodipine--hair falling out by the hand full. Atenolol gave me gas. They all have side effects- it may take a year or more to show up, but eventually they will rear their ugly head.

Be very careful with Lisinopril. I took Lisinopril for years then one morning at 3 am I noticed that my lip felt funny. I had angioedema (sweeping of the face and mouth). I ended up in the hospital. I then found out that a lot of people have had this problem with Lisinopril. Many have died. You can take it for years and not have a problem then all of a sudden have a problem.

Is it better to take before sleep to avoid the side effects and not to get a stroke or heart attack in sleep? My friend was 38 years old old she died in sleep 😢
I have pain sometimes in my heart I mean cold be muscles around my BP is around 158/93 but if I am at the gym or treadmill and holding the sensor also wearing a watch my heart pressure showing up to 150 and between rests goes to 120 but my BP monitor at home is usually over 130-158/ 83-99
I got this medication at home from my doctor I am on TRT I haven’t touched the medicine yet trying to lower it by diet. But the testosterone holding fluids in my body especially when I eat sugar sweets and salt 🧂 but I need salt I work out 6x a week hard and I live in Hawaii it’s hot I sweat a lot during the day so the side effects low potassium etc not good but I can take supplements. I also heard about developing a cough on this BP medication and that it’s become permanent even after stopping this medication 💊! That’s the main reason I haven’t taken it yet.
I like the fact you mentioned that this medication helps to get ride of fluids out of kidneys that it acts like diarrhetic . It would help me to get tide of my excess water retention from TRT .
But not sure how it works its kind of countering against each other I also take 5g of creatine supplement for working out 🏋️ which retains water.
I would definitely get cramps in my abs and other muscles I already get some now when I am low on sodium. I carry it in my backpack tho in cause Id get a chest pain . As I took an aspirin few times before when I had 30 min chest pain and hard time breathing 😮‍💨 🙈 I know you saying why the f you didn’t go to ER. Well like I said I live in Hawaii on an island and medical 🏥 is very bad here and closest hospital almost an hour a way. So I hope I am still ok because I work out 33 years never smoked and don’t drink but o guess i think like im still 20 but i am hitting 50 soon ill be 48 in 1/2 year. Mom had an heart attack and dad died on stroke and lung disease. But they smoked over 20 cigarettes a day for 40 years so I don’t think i should get it too 🙈

The frequent urination thing got lots better for me after a week or so. Once that extra fluid is gone, then the med basically keeps you in maintenance mode. The dizziness I have had mostly in the high humidity heat of southern Missouri summers. My doc said to back down on the med on days when I am out mowing or working in the sticky heat. I have begun making my own electrolyte water, and I add some to a bottle of flavored water. I did not do that last summer. I believe adding this will help me a lot this summer as I am already noticing that I am not quite as exhausted after an outside workout. The med has helped lower my BP. I am 72 and been on it for 10 to 12 years. 25 mg.

@@sandysue202 It took some time to adjust but my dizziness has for the most part subsided since my last comment. I do get some minor bouts of it but much better now. Definitely need to stay hydrated in hot weather as you mentioned.

Dr…. I just started this today at 12.5 mg… my concern is the long term effects on the kidneys and also causing constipation… would it ultimately lead to kidney failure and bad constipation.. ???
